Best way to make new friends (7)

Just looking for some well written answers here.

Honestly, I just want to make some new friends. I have 2 real friends, well- mostly 1, but the other is a childhood friend of 20 years who isn't the greatest, more like a weird cousin.

Anyways, while I have one very good best friend, he's very busy and I'm looking to make some friends of similar interest because I'm at the point in my life where all of my family are gone/passed away, and I'm very alone. I'm a bit out of touch these days with the internet and life in general, I've had some horrible years full of drama and getting divorced from my evil ex. >.>

So I just wanted to know, are there like really good groups on social media or places to make friends easily? I get along great with people, and I prefer to find friends in my general town so I can talk about games and anime with friends who can actually visit. I just don't know whats out there or if anyone knows of a great way to connect with people. Random adding people on FB is crap and people don't treat their FB friends like real friends so...yeah =O

From personal experience I've made almost all of my friends through work. You could just use your co-worker to find people through their social circle if they aren't that hot. Still have A friend from high school though.

I've never really used the internet to hold conversations or make friends but I have made one. Made a pinpal on a forum once and met up in Malaysia, had tonns of fun.

When it comes to internet friends try to keep discussion rolling I guess. Find something you're both passionate about and connect through that. Find some forums or IRC Channels about stuff you like and be meaningful.

Best place to make friends is by going to events where other people would also go, for something that you personally enjoy. The only time I ever make friends is whenever I go to the arcade to play Dance Dance Revolution on the weekends. People show up regularly so the guys that I recognize, I can reach out to the second time and begin my connections.

Obviously not everyone likes DDR, but if you have a hobby that can include other people, go somewhere that they would congregate.

Unless you're a total normalfag, I would not bank on meeting people worth their while at work. People who are working are almost always normalfags and only care about sports and their families.
