As an aside, I really like this quote from Ben Winshaw about actors and acting.. a gossip board devoted to a celebrated actor is probably not the best place to post it but..

"Whishaw prefers not to discuss his personal life, saying: "For me, it's important to keep a level of anonymity. As an actor, your job is to persuade people that you're someone else. So if you're constantly telling people about yourself, I think you're shooting yourself in the foot." In 2011, he told Out magazine: "As an actor you have total rights to privacy and mystery, whatever your sexuality, whatever you do. I don't see why that has to be something you discuss openly because you do something in the public eye. I have no understanding of why we turn actors into celebrities."

At the end of the day, the job of an actor is to convince you, the audience to suspend belief and "buy" the portrayal of whoever the actor is trying to convey. The performance should not be polluted by whatever is going on in the actors real life and world as then, you risk the illusion being destroyed.

I wonder if this is what Tom is trying to achieve when he refuses to indulge in the business of celebrity as of late (a high profile relationship goes against this). Does he want to be an actors actor or a movie star? Can you be both? Do I absolutely need to know every single detail about this man's life outside of the work he does (no, not really). Should I give two figs who he is intimate with if I care about his performances? (No)
