I also don't own one, and I know multiple people IRL who don't either. If you own a basic phone, laptop and camera, there is absolutely no reason to get a smartphone. It just does the same job as these three but in an objectively worse way.

I don't own any of those things either. Unless, by 'basic phone', you mean a landline.

"Objectively worse" except you probably don't have pockets big enough to hold a VVX 201 and a VT220, let alone a DSLR

I know someone who for the longest time didn't have a phone and when they were forced to get one they never used it; to the point that it would run out of battery. For all intents and purposes they still don't have one. I personally stick to my 2016 flipphone and haven't ever owned a smart phone. Some may wonder how I listen to music, if I choose to, when I'm out and the answer is a battery powered mp3 player.

No offense, but you must be pretty disconnected from society if you donft have an iPhone or Android phone.

I absolutely need my iPhone. I suppose I could get by with Android, but the point is there are apps I need to use on a daily basis, so I need some sort of smartphone. People also expect to be able to contact me (through various chat apps, not everyone uses the same one, and texting is old-school), and with just a computer I would be much less able to respond in a timely fashion.

I also use a VPN, email, look up weather, mobile browser, use my phone camera, listen to music, look at my schedule and appointments and meetings on my calendar, look at my Evernote to-do list, even look at my cloud storage files from my computer, sync up stuff between multiple devices, use my password manager to log into sites, Spotify and bandcamp for music, podcasts, audiobooks, ad-blocking, Google Maps for directions, mobile payment and banking, etc.

I really do not understand how you can get away with only having a computer and not a smartphone.

Oh yeah, and my phone is my alarm clock too. I sleep with it in my bed and I used Audacity on my MacBook to make a blank audio file (which I transferred to my phone) and then set the alarm sound to the blank file and changed the settings so that it vibrates but plays no sound. I do this so that the vibration will wake me up but itfs not loud enough to wake my roommates up.

Having it on 24/7 means the battery runs down but I alleviated that issue by getting a USB power bank.

This just sound like your making your life more complicated for yourself. I own a smartphone and a laptop additionally to my pc and I am not that dependent on technology. Sure I spend all my time in front of a screen but stuff like my schedule and to do lists are all in my head.

93 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8998 07:08

I own a smartphone exclusively for videogames, all that other shit is easy to do on my conveniently located desktop computer and I have better software for it there than the phone has anyway; Honkai Impact 3 on the other hand is worth owning a BaDingoPhone for, and to a lesser extend PAD.

I use my phone for texting and messaging but keep most of the features turned off. There's a couple of Touhou games so that's neat! It's just easier and comfier to do things with compooper.

I'm not surprised a bunch of weebs use computers instead of phones. You're really disconnected from reality.

I don't really value being connected to society; I'd rather meet people in person. Besides I am hooked into select news with RSS on my computer.

Why do you consider texting old school? Why would you ever need those fancy chatting apps when a text can accomplish exactly the same thing? In fact plenty of chatting apps offer an SMS bridge, one example that I've used is GroupMe. And if everyone is using those apps then it's certain they have a phone which must necessarily have SMS.

Let's see my flipphone has:
  • Webbrowser
  • Alarms
  • Email
  • Calendar
  • Pictures/Camera
  • Voice/Text
  • Voice Commands
  • Notes
  • Calculator
  • Task List
  • Stopwatch
  • Tip Calculator
  • Unit Converter
  • Voice Recorder
Really there isn't a need for one to have a smartphone if you have a computer. In fact IIRC you can call 411 and ask for local directions if you really need to I'm fairly certain there's some service that sends out weather SMS and if not one could use a radio to listen for a forecast or look it up on a computer ahead of time.

I really do not understand how you can get away with only having a computer and not a smartphone.

I've simply have no need for a smartphone.

    Bruh.
    Bruh!
You are so out of touch you don't even realize how out of touch you are.
RSS? I think you mean Twitter or Reddit. It's not the 2000s anymore.

No need for a smartphone? That's some fox-and-the-grapes shit. Sounds like you just don't know how much more convenient a smartphone is. Try it, I think you'll be surprised at how much more you can get done.

Then again, if you just sit on your ass all day, instead of going out a lot, then yeah, it might be hard to see the benefit of having a phone you can take with you instead of a completely immobile desktop.

A smartphone is a computer that fits in your pocket. You can't lug your desktop around with you everywhere. Hell, I don't even use a desktop anymore. I have one, but I just don't use it. It's much more convenient to use my laptop. But a lot of the time, I prefer to use my phone instead.

Then again, I'm not surprised that someone on an old text board is using ancient technology.

    > I used Audacity on my MacBook to make a blank audio file (which I transferred to my phone) and then set the alarm sound to the blank file and changed the settings so that it vibrates but plays no sound.

Nigga, sounds like you paid too much for a hunk of plastic that doesn't have basic features like a vibrate-only alarm. Literally no phone I've ever laid a finger on has not had vibrate-only alarm.

And the rest of you. I didn't read most of this shit because it is completely boring and off-topic, but let me share something. Some people prefer to write notes using pen and paper. Some people type notes into a word document in a dropbox folder. Some people write notes in a draft email to themselves. Some people write notes in vim in a git repo that they then sync up to an encrypted fileshare. See how everyone manages to keep notes, but they do it in different ways, and are all somehow successful in keeping notes? See how they manage to do so without ruining a thread on a BBS? Now shut the fuck up.

    Ahh that's perfect xxx
