Thread to talk about the actor Tom Hiddleston

>>525 Maybe he's going to become a Scottish farmer, hence the search for a manor house.

>>526 Well 'Actor has long hair and beard' can't fill up an article. As he's got nothing else to offer them except his supposed real estate dealings, they're going to fall back to familiar ground. The DM had a lot of Tayto's 'photo exclusives' including the mum stroll, and the most obvious example of them calling the paps: the paps on the runway and up the motorway. I wonder if whoever wrote this article knows from those exclusives that it was all as phoney as a $3 bill and put the GQ bit in there as a wink and a dig.

I like longer hair on a man but he's nearly in mullet territory. After mullet comes...manbun or manytail. And we thought Tayto was bad.

530 Name: Anon. : 2018-01-15 16:06 ID:7VyO5+Gk

>>522 The less than enthusiastic smiles may be due to the fact that his dates (that we know of) were Luke and...drumroll...his mummy. Wonder what she thinks of the state of his follicles!

Is the general fandom still blaming Luke for Tayto and calling for his head?

EM reviews. The movie seems to be getting very good reviews, as a kidde-era Brexit allegory. They say that Tom's french accent is rather broad. But Tom seems to be referencing the comedic 'Allo 'Allo! BBC series set in WWII era northern France, so its meant to be a farce.

More EM premiere pics. Apparently Mama Hiddleston was his date. TH also seems to have brand new and darker couloured new eye glasses. Maybe purchasing a pair of designer eye glasses for intensive personal reading and taking hottie-professor fan pics is the only splurge he can justify for himself, since there seem to be no new project announcements?

>>526, >>527, >>529 The DM read as if they didn’t even have a reporter at the event, just a photog. They could at least have mentioned that he spent time with the fans, especially the children.

The times he’s smiling in these pix are when he’s with the kids, a couple with ER and Masie, and one where Luke is saying something in his ear. So he’s still capable of smiling; he’s just lost that hyper level of glee he used to have.

A kiddo-era Brexit allegory? Jesus wept. Is that the Guardian? Has to be the Guardian. Everything is about Brexit to the Guardian.

>>532 She was. If you search on twitter, one of the most popular tweets is a video of a kid who attended the premiere. He interviews TH at the afterparty and momma is alongside yucking it up. I nearly wet myself as she didn't do her hair for the premiere but did do it for Tayto. Hmmmmm.

I'm glad that Tom isn't as vain as some guys in Hollywood, b/c that kind of comment would drive some pretty boys straight to a dermatologist to get some major chemical peeling and laser resurfacing done to the old puss!

>>537 Well some things are sacred. Also she might have refused to be photographed with him until he shaves and gets a haircut.

Here's an ONTD article on the premiere. Following on from the OP's question, it quickly devolved into a summer o' fuckery rehash. Amongst my favs were posts ridiculing the Nashville restaurant photos and one which called Tayto a 'dumpster fire.'

https://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/109172451.html

I think this will be his lot for a good while longer. Even when the new project is announced, Tayto will rear its ugly head in the background. Ah well, this too shall pass, eventually.

Tom's 5 minute video interview for Early Man with Theupcoming. It seems as if he is just as committed to promoting this film in an artiulate way, as he is to his other films. His reluctance to talk to reporters probably stems from the fact tht he doesn't have a new project to announce, and he doesn't want to come off as such a a shamless self-promotionist after the GG speech situation and Tayto. FYI, the James Ivory Richard II project is in pre-production as of August 2017. His recent success as the screenwriter of this year's Call Me By Your Name, should give Ivory some heat to get Richard II made.

>>545 This was my favorite tweet from when KK released the tapes of TS being a lying liar. I missed the early weeks of Tayto because of real life, so Receipt Gate is my Tayto jam. What a surreal night. With everything that had happened, no one thought it would get more ridiculous and then KK made the internet explode!

>>548 I swear that movie has been in pre-production for that past five years.

550 Name: Heynon : 2018-01-18 01:54 ID:LfjWE7CD

>>548, >>549 According to the crazy clever one, RII became listed in IMDB Pro as in pre-production as of this past fall. So maybe it's a inching a little closer to being made someday. Which might contribute to Tom's shaggy look - it's easier to have a beard and get rid of it for a role than the other way round. (The fake beards in KSI and HR did not look natural on him.)

551 Name: Heynon : 2018-01-18 02:21 ID:LfjWE7CD

A behind-the-scenes EM video showing some voiceover work. Tom's bits start at about 2:12, and include when Nick Park was giving him a massage to get the shaky voice for the bath scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKwux8aJ7ck

Not sure Tom would have seen this project as beneath him except for Eddie R being part of it. Tom's talked about how he loved Aardman movies as a kid, and in the BTS shots he looks like he's having so much fun. And remember that Ralph Fiennes voiced the villain in the last Wallace & Gromit movie, so he's in good company.

>>548 I was thinking the same thing about the press avoidance (both in this case and for RadHam). He knows he'll get asked about what's next. And I suspect he's trying hard not to do anything that will make him look as if he's heavily self-promoting anymore. I believe we're not seeing sad or depressed Tom at this point, but Tom 2.0, the grown-up version.

>>550>>548>>549 My hunch could pay off! James Ivory's Richard II could still come to life! James says that Tom has agreed to play Richard and Damian Lewis will play Bolingbrook, and he's still looking for financing. Yay. The dream has not died! If Call Me By Your Name is Oscar-nominated, and wins a few gongs, this could help turn Ivory into a recent awards contender whose projects are still worthy/marketable to greenlight!

Gossip cop denied that following the Golden Globe Awards, Chris Hemsworth had set Tom up on a date w Angelina Jolie via a messaging app and texting, and that they have been chatting ever since, and are planning a dinner date in LA, soon! Eddie Redmayne on this video at 3:52, thinks that Tom should be a wizard in one of the Fantastic Beasts/Harry Potter prequel films! My dream was that Tom and his lovely beard would be cast as young Dumbledore in his dark wizard-catching years! Darn you Jude Law! I'm still hopeful that we'll get Tom with a wand in hand, at some point.

>>556 That, or playing the young Emperor Palatine in a Star Wars prequel!

I wonder why, with all the EM promo, none of it seems to have been with just Eddie and Tom together. (Each of them had sessions with Masie, and there was at least one with all three of them.) Probably just as well because Tom might have regressed a bit from his new adult persona. Tom 1.0 has only peeked out a little from the vids I've seen.

>>551 This is kinda my point. It’s okay to do an animated feature (even after TPF!) because ER and people like RF have done it. I know he said he loves Aardman but he also said 'I've always wanted to do a movie about a journey to an uncharted island,’ i.e., he’s given to exaggeration.

>>555 If he thought Swifty chewed him up and spit him out!

>>558 This is from the fall press day (I remember her cute collar dress). That’s not a trimmed beard, it’s a growing beard.

Pic of Tom walking puppy, Bobby. The DM rapiers out for Hiddleston and Jude Law. Says they both are dressed as if it is for their midlife crises. Ouch!! Dark.

>>565 Meant to also say, that I understand that some well-off preppy guys like to wear their clothes over and over until they are completely worn out, and I admit that I don't like men who dress like vain peacocking city boys, I don't know what Tom's statement to the public/film industry is. He looks pale and very unkempt in his personal grooming. And when you're not working or scheduled to work as an actor, that's not the best message to project to the world. You just look as if you don't care what people think of you. As an actor, your appearance is your business office, in a way.

567 Name: Anon : 2018-02-12 09:54 ID:A3rZwPke

>>565 I feel a bit sorry for Jude Law. One may or may not like the coat, but it was intended as a fashion statement, and with the exception of the boots the items are all clean and pressed.

Is that a hole I see in the front of Tom’s jacket? Also, I don’t think we can now dispute that the jacket is just filthy (I recall a debate last year about whether we saw a footprint or a trick of the light). As for the boots, it may have been a lot muddier than expected when he was out walking the dog. The acid test will be whether he bothers to clean them off.

>>566 In the old days it was said that one got one’s valet to wear one’s shirts until they looked a bit worn, as very new clothes were vulgar. I think this is taking it to extremes. I have seen many Old Etonians (and others!) wearing a favourite jumper with a hole in the elbow. Usually, however, the clothes are clean. Was Tom always this, ahem, dirty when he went casual? I don’t recall that.

>>568 Many much much better pics of Tom and Bobby on torilla. It looks like the DM falsified the color of Tom's pics to that they could feed their mid-life crisis narrative! The bsterds! Tom's coat is faded, but it's not dirty. And his jeans look pretty crisp, as well. And Bobby has a fashionable new coat : ) I really hope that Tom is growing out his hair for James Ivory's Richard II,and Ivory said 9 hours ago “At the moment I’m very optimistic it will happen.” Yay!Apparently the script is by Argo screenwrtier, Chris Terrio. But CT also wrote the Justice League script. Hmmm...

The reappearance of the dog indicates he is his. I had wondered if he belonged to another family member, perhaps, as he had not been seen since the first pics (I think).

>>570 We posted at the same moment!

Have a look at the middle photo in the top line (2/9). Looks like the left sleeve is pretty filthy, though I agree that some of the problem with that coat is that it looks dusty where it has worn shiny where it rubs. Not that that is much better (!!).

He’s looking rail -thin as well as pale. And why do they never catch him smiling at the dog?

574 Name: Heynon : 2018-02-12 18:31 ID:vsFoFSho

>>572 I suspect the coat’s condition is a combo of thriftiness, dog walking, and thumbing his nose at the paps. But he’s never been skilled at thinking through the impression he makes.

575 Name: Anon : 2018-02-12 18:50 ID:A3rZwPke

>>573 I imagine he is aware when he is being papped. The first pics of him carrying the dog were blue steel to the max. He so obviously loves dogs that I am sure he is like this in private: http://www.smallstepsproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Tom-Hiddleston-Joost-Vandebrug-1.jpg

(One of my all time favourite pics of him, BTW).

>>574 I’m sure it is a combination of things. Doesn’t Di Caprio wear the same clothes all the time to make the pics less worthwhile (or he went through a phase of so doing)? He seems quite literally to wear the same outfit down to the hat every day now. I wonder whether the paps are there more than we know and that has prompted the nose thumbing.

576 Name: Anon : 2018-02-12 18:55 ID:A3rZwPke

>>575 Sigh. Just looking at that pic and remembering why I ended up in the fandom. Tom with short black hair, a huge smile and - remember those days? - clean, relatively new and flattering clothes that were chosen by him (rather than being bought by Yours Truly at such humongous expense that it’s no wonder he baulks at replacing them).

577 Name: Heynon : 2018-02-12 19:20 ID:KNXwNIL0

>>575, >>571 Despite his having said he "doesn't see" the paps, I've come to agree that he must be aware of them. Or at least he always adopts that face when he's out and about as a protective measure. That's a sweet picture of him with the dog; and in all the others I've seen of him with dogs, he's been interacting with them a lot.

>>575 Daniel Radcliffe also "casually" remarked, when he was turning up in stage door photos from (I think) Equus, that he "noticed" that he'd worn the same clothes for a week.

I wonder if the timing of this pap/pup walk had anything to do with TS having released some kind of behind the scenes vid on Tom's birthday in which she jokes about the 4th of July? The PR sniping continues....

578 Name: Anon : 2018-02-12 20:27 ID:A3rZwPke

>>577 Did she? I didn’t hear about that. She is a real class act if so. Though if he wants to win the propaganda war he will have to dial up the fashone a bit. I am not sure a revenge pap stroll in a coat with holes in it is sending quite the right message!

As for our tedious little visitor (and yes I do think there is just one of you, as Anonon has previously suspected, due to your strangely repetitive comments): if you don’t like what we do here, then go somewhere else. Or go mad and set up your own thread on 4-ch, maybe. But don’t waste our time with this pious cant about not approving of what we get up to here (since you lurk here and clearly can’t drag yourself away) or the utter bullshit about us wishing him dead. Show me one single post in which anyone has said that.

You can also spare us your tinhatted accusations of plotting (by the way, congratulations for the maddest comment from a lurker that I have seen since I started here in 2015!).

Why do you think you have the right to have a place where no one will troll you? And LSA? That's literally slumming. They still hold out hope Tom will pull a Prince Harry. I find it funny you think there's just 1 of us who've decided to visit your little psych ward here. Guess its b/c you've been using multiple id's and just think everyone else does too.

I read recently that Harriet Walter and others “joined” him as a patron of the Nuffield Southampton Theatres (https://www.nstheatres.co.uk/about-us/news/harriet-walter-and-craig-david-announced-as-new-patrons-for-nuffield-southampton-theatres). Since he did that q&a in early 2015 I am not aware he has done any event for NST. He was originally named as an “associate actor”. See http://www.whatsonstage.com/southampton-theatre/news/07-2014/nuffield-southampton-50th-anniversary-season-hiddleston_34939.html.

I’ll be glad if this marks the start of a closer association! He looks like he is having a good time.

New coat (I think!). Also, is he having his hair straightened? Compared to Wallander days it looks a lot less curly!

>>599 From those articles, it looks as patron and assoc. actor are both “ambassador” roles. Probably something he can do as much or as little of as he wants and has time for. So a positive of his current situation is that he seems to have the chance to support organizations he cares about.
de
The thinking you-know-where is that the coat might be his peacoat from RadHam. The hair - who knows? It’s longer than in his youth, which in my experience makes curly hair straighter. And it might be hat hair from being out and about in his baseball cap. He’s definitely had it straightened for some of his RC appearances, though- possibly yours truly’s influence?

Tom is still in the industry! And I think that he and his PR guy, Luke, have taken a page from the TS playbook by refocusing on charitable donations, and notifying the press about it, just like his peers do. The British actors have joined forces to fight sexual harassment just in time to promote the BAFTA film awards. Tom, Emma Watson, K Knightley, Emma Thompson Gugu M-W, Jodie Whittaker from Return to Cranford, etc. have made donations to a fund for victims of sexual assault, called the UK Justice and Equality Fund. Tom gave £10,000 and Emma W gave £1 million, and he made the contribution by name, on a GoFundMe page. Hmmm...I guess this is Tom's answer to the the Harvey Weinstein fallout, the Time's Up Movement, and acting in a Woody Allen film. Hmm... Processing. Given Tom's last 1.5years in the business, it was probably best for him to stay quiet on the issue, and let his financal contribution speak for itself. I'm a little wary of the Time's Up. The agents are heavily in involved in this. They agencies need good press themselves, b/c they knowingly led actresses to meet with a violent predator, when they many knew about Harvey's crimes.

Tom and Eddie R's Early Man has premiered in the US to roughly 3.2 million dollars so far at the box office so far, over President's Day weekend. I guess EM is family oriented counter programing to Marvel's Black Panther, which has swung quite a large ax this weekend.

He will soon start to rival Jordan Vogt-Roberts in the beard stakes! The beard is well below his chin now.

Was he chatting to journalists?

I was at Letters Live tonight. Half expected he would show because the venue is now in Islington, closer to home, and Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman both read letters. Sadly not!

OT:

To Anon. and others who recommended the John Adams miniseries: I watched it in advance of a vacation in Boston. Loved it (and found it very useful when going round museums to be able to recognise and contextualise Benjamin Franklin etc). Paul Giamatti has cornered the market in grumpy yet principled lawyerly old gits (cf also Billions). Stephen Dillane was unexpectedly foxy as Thomas Jefferson.

Oh no! New Dailymail click bait article w new pics of Tom walking Bobby, and rehashing the TS fauxmance with rock canoodling and the tank top incident. It's her team's PR for the release of her next music video. He seems to be wearing a new grey scarf, the Hamlet grey suede boots, and black gloves. The article promotes Avengers Infinity Wars, as well.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5485033/Tom-Hiddleston-sports-unshaven-beard-walking-dog-London.html
Tom not shaving is not going to stop TS from crossmarketing w him for financial gain. How much of this is contractual, I wonder? He needs better lawyers and better PR. But Luke Wilson is quite busy with Colin Firth, b/c his wife lied about her extramarital affair with an old friend who she falsely claimed was a stalker! Messy! I guess that real relationships require as much tap dancing PR BS as fauxmances, do. But Luke, solely retweeting a pic of Tom as Loki in IW from EW magazine is not going to cut it.

622 Name: Heynon : 2018-03-11 21:10 ID:LfjWE7CD

>>619, >>620 At least Bobby is looking elegant. Hmmm - if this were contractual, how much of the homeless chic look could be due to TH thinking how he could be the least cooperative and digging out some of the oldest stuff in his closet?

If her PR team had anything to do with the recent pap shots of him, it's another sign of how far she's fallen. Trying to exploit a whatever-that-was almost two years later feels a tad desperate.

623 Name: Anon : 2018-03-11 22:32 ID:A3rZwPke

>>619>>622 I don’t think it is contractual, personally. It just feels to me like DM click bait. She has a single out, so boring everyday pap shots of him have a value for the time being - though surely getting more and more limited as he goes out every day doing the same thing in the same clothes (I am now sure designedly a la Leo di Caprio or whoever it was who always wore the same clothes to reduce the value of the pap shots).

624 Name: Heynon : 2018-03-11 23:18 ID:LfjWE7CD

>>623 I don’t really think it could be contractual - just that it would be a funny passive-aggressive way for Tom to fight back if it were!

625 Name: Sosorry : 2018-03-12 03:03 ID:zSl8T0x0

>>621 Luke Windsor. Silly me! Maybe puppy Bobby is chewing up his clothes? Or maybe it's just Tom bashing the heck out of his clothes, as usual.

There's a shoe print on his coat and his scarf has a hole in it. He knows he's going to be photographed yet he chooses to dress like someone who doesn't wash themselves or there clothes. He has to get his act together, this depress person he's become is getting odd and crazy now. I'm surprised he hasn't snapped at someone.

627 Name: xamon : 2018-03-12 10:51 ID:lq1cIQoS

Those are the clothes he uses daily to walk his dod and play with him in the park. If you ever had a dog, you know that you always come home with dirty clothes.
I'm sure that when he gets home he takes a shower and changes to normal clothes.

628 Name: Unknown : 2018-03-12 13:24 ID:8suh0qni

I've had a dog before and my clothes were never dirty even if I played with him in the park or yard. That's a bad excuse, especially since he's a celebrity and he knows he's going to be photographed. Image is everything to celebrities. Is he trying to make people feel sorry for him or what with this sad man image he now has.
