They are not suitable for the same exact things. Linux makes more sense for web servers, but domain controllers run Windows. But with VMs, you can run both on the same computer. And even more OSes too. Even without a traditional VM, Windows 10 now has something called Bash on Ubuntu on Windows. It replaces the old Windows Subsystem for Unix Applications (SUA). Kind of like Cygwin or MinGW.
Of all the things to get tribal about, this topic is pretty silly.
