discords is for most people, boards are for complainers. I don't think there is a single game out there that just said "go to this thread to discuss this game" instead of having their own comment section or discord server.

name and face are kind of like leash, they make revenge possible when necessary. Knowing that you can get your revenge through purely legal means if necessary allows you to move slightly more freely and trust people a bit easier. But not having a gun pointed at you sometimes is necessary too, allows you to relax slightly. People love firing others over something they said on twitter 10 years ago.

Hm, I might be an attention whore after all. To be fair, having tools for communication and not using them is stupid, it goes against the whole idea. People go to online threads because it's their desired medium of communication, not because some community manager told them to gather there.
You will not be able to find people who have information related to your game on anonymous forums unless it is a very famous game already. You can't just go on /v/ and ask "hey guys, I got stuck in this recently released not very mainstream game, how do I progress", 99% of people there never heard of that game at all, and 99% of people who know the answer to your question will not ever see your question because it will be flushed in a day. Going on discord or reddit has higher success rate. Situation is different if that game has a thread dedicated to it for at least a few months or years, and a group of people who check it regularly, one of the chosen 100.
