The only relevant textboard in english ;_;
no, still alive ;__;
still lurking ;_;
still kickin' ;__;
I visit this website about twice annually out of curiosity.
I've never really known what to do here because it seems like there's no one here.
We should have less boards. The only board that gets any traffic, any how, is DQN.
This website was more active 8 years ago. I could waste an entire day posting.
How can we revive it?
>>9
So every time we make a post, we post twice.
I post. I exist.
We can bring this entire website down to 2-3 boards.
>>13
I like the other boards though. Even though it's not used often, I like the idea of having a "Romance" or "Personal Issues" board.
>We can bring this entire website down to 2-3 boards.
Terrible idea. Terrible, terrible idea. Just in general.
Imagine how this place would be if DQN was the only board. (So what if it is....- You catch my drift.)
Bummer at the absolute snails pace the last several years though.
I'll try posting more.
>>15
I understand what you mean, but what if we (and by "we", I of course mean squeaks or shii or whoever runs this forum now) merge the boards whose topics overlap each other. For example, what distinguishes net culture from Internet addicts? And what distinguishes the content on Internet addicts with that of general. Food and fashion make more sense being topics or running threads on the very inactive hobbies board, which pretty much consists of, "I need a new hobby". I get the Japanese board, but do we really need a Nordic board separate from languages?
>>16
If we didn't have a separate Nordic board, those dirty swedes might start interfering and mucking around with the rest of us.
The only problem with the separate boards is I'm too lazy to check them all to look for new posts. So I tend to avoid the ones i'm less interested in. Sorry all you News boards.
This site's traffic is going to pick up. Mark my words. 4-ch is going to be all the rage by 2020
so there are srill people here..
>>18
In the near future I shall make a global feed for new posts made across the entire site. Possibly I will allow the option to filter out certain boards (in particular DQN, since it is the most active). If people are sufficiently aware of this new feature (new? shock!), it may begin to address the problem you are describing.
In terms of removing boards, I really have to side with >>15 on this one. I do not know if this is simply out of nostalgia, stubbornness, or whatever, but it is a very strong feeling. Having said that, I really want to hear all arguments to the contrary.

>>21 I know how you feel, based out of nostalgia, but at the moment there are too many boards. For example, Anime and Manga can easily be put together. I can't say whether any of the users of /manga/ use /anime/ as well, but I'd imagine that they do. One of the biggest things it seems in getting more people on boards and on the site is to make it seem like there is more discussion going on. The last post on Manga was in march, and the last post on anime was today, by me. Romance and Personal could easily be merged into one board, so could Tech Support and Programming, Politics and Debate (they go hand in hand), Fashion, Food and Hobbies could just be merged into a Daily Life board. I think that textboards never really got their fair shot in the west, but I've always loved the concept, I used to post on world2ch a LONG time ago but moved to imageboards. Now that imageboards are completely un-saveable, I think that textboards are a good possibility. That's just me, however.
>>14
Other chans already have a romance and personal issues board.
It's called /r9k/
>>23
/r9k/ always revolves around not having a gf and self-loathing.
Have you seen the Personal Issues board? It's nothing like the /r9k/'s I've seen before.
Yeah, /r9k/ is fantastic, though, if you ignore all the >tfw no gf stuff.
Personal Issues is nothing like that. No self loathing, but also no good OC.
It's because of the captcha. Fix this captcha so we don't have to copy our message into an Emacs window in case we are wrong and lose our entire message.
>>27
My captcha is always "wow"
It must take an idiot to get the captcha wrong.
>>28
It varies, sometimes it is very difficult.
>>26
That can be said of any board, though
I could say that /b/ is pretty good if you ignore all the shamelessly gratuitous shitposting
>>23 since when /r9k/ is about personal issues or romance? If anything it was a cool new /b/ where people fought with no repeats rule.
...a few years ago while I still frequented the place.
>>31
It's turned into the "feels board" for losers and NEETs. At least the 8chan and 4chan ones. Lots of overuse of Pepe and Feels Man.
Uh, way off track here guys..... just noting that.
I still stand by my original position of basically not changing the site in any way. It's lasted thus long.
What we need is less posters. More moderators. Mark my words.
>>33
I disagree about the posters/moderators.
I would love to have a mainstream English textboard like Japan has. 8chan/4chan are cancerous because at it's core are "le maymays" and they never breed any meaningful discussion, especially 8chan. A popular general-purpose discussion textboard would coexist with reddit and forums, and get rid of comment sections on blogs and news sites and such.
So I actually think this place needs to be shilled hard.
>>34
That post was a sarcasm, pointing out, there is more moderators and their friends, than posters.
Does captcha work now?
I'm so alone
no you're not, anon. You've still got us.
all 12 of us.
Searching for 「anonymous discussion forum」 on startpage (which partially gets its results from google), wakaba.c3.cx/shii/shiichan appears on page 3. And nothing more except a 4chan mention up to 10.
I don't know, maybe if we shilled the results hard..
>>41
could work, but who's gonna google "anonymous discussion forum"?
Also, if we got whoever runs 4chan now to put a link to 4-ch, that would send more ppl this way. Not an advertisement and not paid, but a link.
I imagine they don't like the idea of of textboards or other sites, though.
>>43
tbh, i doubt whoever runs 4chan now would put a link to here.
our best bet would just be to buy a self serve ad from them.
>>44
I'm opposed to advertisements, but also, I feel something deeply revolting about buying ads on 4chan.
Another way would be to contact some mainstream news outlet and propose them to make an article about textboards and 4-ch like a sort of english 2ch.
>>48
Has a major news outlet even mentioned 2ch? The only ones I can find are some Japanese sites and fucking Kotaku, so I doubt our chances of getting publicity like that are very high.
And even if a major news site did do a story on 2ch, they'd probably decry it and all of it's spinoffs as sites for pedophile-rapist-murderers because they're dumb as fuck and need pageviews.
2ch probs hasn't been mentioned but don't they run out of ideas sometimes.
Why do we need more people? With that just comes meme-faggotry and spammers.
>>51
I like 2ch style sites, so the fact that most english ones are slow as hell is kind of annoying.
As for meme-faggotry and spamming, we could just tell them to fuck off if they're being faggots.
It's ironic that you would act so elitist, considering words like faggot are only really trendy on some of the more juvenile imageboards.
Ah, maybe we should just take 4-ch for what it is, a seemingly desolated posting ground.
>>53
yup
/polpol/ and /32/ are some of the better boards on 8chan (I'm slightly suspicious of the moderation of /polpol/ though)
maybe we could subtly advertise there by mentioning 4-ch in a discussion (this is how /32/ is advertised)
Casually mentioning it on slow 8ch/4chan boards might work. On /qa/, one of the less populated boards on 4chan, I usually mention it in "Post what other sites you frequent?" Threads. I've also posted it on /txt/ on 8ch.
Why advertise it? It's not like that ever endures. They'll visit for the novelty then leave, because they're too image-oriented.
The fact is that if someone takes up an interest textboard culture, no matter what they do, they're most likely to visit this site first, so why not just let it be? Don't try to impose your interests on others.
You should, because they're going to spam the front page with stuff like "I'm from 8ch, and what is this site?" rather than actually contribute discussion.
Or, more likely, they're going to post on DQN, deteriorating the quality of what's all ready a very low-quality board.
So caught up in your elitism that you failed to notice >>60 is likely one of them.
Or did I fail to notice something myself?
>>60
in my defence, textboards are better.
Less bullshit image internet memes to worry about.
>>56
/pol/ is literally worse than furry don't bring that shit here please
wait, why do we have an imageboard now?
>>66
BPS didn't say anything on /req/
Hm
