ITT we tell the poster above us why their favorite anime sucks (655)

1 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-03-06 07:15 ID:q3Vd1Sli This thread was merged from the former /anime/ board. You can view the archive here.

For example, assuming >>0's favorite was Looney Tunes: That's not an anime, dumbshit. However, it is crippled by lack of a central plot, nonexistant character development, and inability to focus on a single set of characters.

My fave: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

No protracted arguments in this thread please, just keep it going.

Sci-fi tie-in to an ethically iffy quasi-dating sim. Might as well make a mecha show starring RealDolls.

Awesome! Cheaply animated volleyball porn! It's like a parody of itself. Either that or shorthand for "I've never seen a girl naked, and I don't care who knows it."

Haruko Momoi is perhaps the second worst singer in Japan, a country not known producing much real musical talent. She sounds like she's singing through a little girl's borrowed sinuses, and can't even stay on key with the aid of heavy digital processing. Oyasumi, indeed.

Dokkoida?!

229 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-06-25 20:38 ID:rQ52uuF2

>>228
I strongly protest. I've been to one of her live concerts when she was still touring with Aniki, and she sounded just fine. Also, songs like Kotae have next to no digital processing. I agree that her very childlike voice isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like it. Anyway, back to the thread at hand: Pretty lame parody. Spent most of its funny in the first two episodes.

They Were 11

230 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-06-25 23:01 ID:r8J3QPT/

I can't decide if the hero was gay for the trap or hetero for the future reverse-trap... it was confusing. Also, will their offspring be male, female or undecided?

Puchi Puri Yuushi.

Mostly just being snotty, actually. Despite her significant pitch problems (objective technical reality, not an opinion, ask any trained singer), I find much of her work catchy as hell. UndaSebu's on my 'guilty pleasures' list.

But, since we're talking back, I've been meaning to take issue with >>202 for some time now! I have to assume that you've either never seen it, or are just one of those categorical Gonzo-haters. The animation's lovely, even with slightly-too-shiny CGI.

... and to get back on topic:

Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro

232 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-06-26 12:13 ID:r8J3QPT/

>>231 Proper name seems to be "Origin ~Spirits of the Past~", not "Origins" (unless you are talking about Bible Black Origins... :). As for a review, that moving mountain at the end was completely unreal and broke my sense of disbelief. To borrow >>202 colorful language, writing ended sucking ass.

As for Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro, too kiddie for my tastes: Lupin stopping himself from hugging a babe??

242 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-06-28 20:22 ID:r8J3QPT/

It was conceived as a patchwork of semi-related stories as a background for contemporary music and was successful as such. Then they added episodes to make it a proper story and failed, the ending left a bitter taste in my mouth. It should have been more fleshed out.

The Daichis: Earth Defense Family.

Let's string together a bunch of completely unrelated depressing little viginettes about depressing characters, lol. The otaku will call it "deep."

Black Lagoon

(by the way, >>244, there is eventually an explanation, though it's rather predictable, several episodes into the first season. The writers for whatever reason decided to begin the action in medias res and go into how and why later)

Kino no Tabi

256 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-07-02 13:45 ID:r8J3QPT/

Every story by Oh!Great! turns to dishwater when animated. This one is no exception... a total waste of a good premise and nice characters. "Not great" comes to mind.

The Third.

Slayers sucks by default.

Ah! Megami-sama (TV)

259 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-07-03 01:20 ID:deOKKj/q

Wimpiest harem anime protagonist ever. Keiichi makes Shinji Ikari look like Sergeant Rock. Also, for a nigh-omnipotent goddess who watches over and protects the multiverse, Belldandy sure can be oblivious, not to mention, well, kind of dumb. You'd think that after the eighty-seventh zany misunderstanding, she'd, I dunno, maybe sit down with Keiichi and talk things out, like normal people would, instead of acting like a warped sitcom airhead version of the Yamato Nadescio Japanese ideal fantasy wife. But maybe I expect too much from fictional characters.

bleep bleep bleep. Unless you're watching the DVD version, that is.

Lucky Star

261 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-07-03 14:32 ID:r8J3QPT/

Konata's voice actor is totally mis-casted in this show. Listening to her monotone voice makes me go into a coma after a few minutes. She doesn't sound like a dedicated otaku at all, she is reading her lines like a robot. Total failure, she brings the whole show down.

Outlaw Star.

262 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-07-03 15:48 ID:Zkf9yfyE

Unsympathetic protagonist. Gene Starwind is a sociopath and a thug, a cardboard cutout character straight from Central Casting. He and his merry crew of unexplored, unexamined, uninspired cardboard cutout ciphers go in search of a quick buck, nookie, and a Cosmic MacGuffin, not necessarily in that order, never batting an eyelash as they pile up a truly impressive body count along the way. The retro space-opera background looks fascinating, but I wish the writers had put as much effort into making the characters interesting or engaging.

Black Lagoon

263 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-07-03 16:27 ID:dqXmbH+u

Too much Engrish. Also a little... Lussian, and possibly a bit of whatever the Japanese-mangled version of Thai is. Points for getting the Thai cops' outfits right, if not place names.

Jungle Emperor

265 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-07-03 23:24 ID:r8J3QPT/

...The Movie? Big fuck-up, and I quote: "while all the animals communicate with each other, they do not talk to the humans. This change is in direct opposition to Tezuka's stated premise behind his original Jungle Emperor story: that an inter-species society of animals must include humans as well."

The Mars DayBreak.

I've never really been into many Mech series. I really like Eureka 7 a lot though. and Evangleion has to be given it's own share of respect. The opening scene for burst angel was incredible but I haven't actually watched past the first episode yet so I'm not too sure if I like it.

287 Name: Illegitimate Provocative Dreamer ver1.11 : 2007-07-12 07:17 ID:yk5uGuZG

Eureka 7 and Evangelion, along with Gundam Wing(when I was younger.. I don't remember anything about it anymore) are really the only mech shows I've watched through and finished though.

Twilight Q ep1: some kind of time travel love(?) story, IIRC. Not bad, but confusing and not especially memorable.
Twilight Q ep2: I don't remember anything about this one, but I see I wrote "Disgusting" near the title in my notes, which I rarely do, so it must have been really bad.
