I hope nobody minds that I cleaned up the title a little bit.

Not Archduke. I do apologize if my post was so self-indulgent that it appeared similar to something he'd say.

There have been a few people I've talked to who do this. Usually I'll just tolerate it and joke around, but sometimes they're actually being cynical to the point where negotiation is impossible. If being unyieldingly understanding doesn't work, try giving him some space?
As for the girl, we do hang out. That much is alright. As I said, I'd rather just be friends.

There is something in the help files that mentions changing some value from "auto" to "vfat" in some file called "fstab" but I do not know what that is or how to do it.
Help please?
>>301
fstab is your file systems table located in /etc/fstab
You will need to edit it as root
with the text editor of your choice.
If it's in there, the value you need to change should be the third field. e.g. change
/dev/sdc /media/someplace auto
to
/dev/sdc /media/someplace vfat
>>302
Are you sure? I have a /dev/ directory but there is no /sdc/ sud-directory in it.
>>303
No, I mean those are lines in the fstab
file.
Also, they are files. The /dev
directory holds device files for your hard drives, mice, keyboards, etc. You may have heard the saying "everything in UNIX is a file". This is why.
>>303
unix uses files to describe devices, not directories. try this:
ls /dev/ | grep sd
sda is usually your hard drive
sda1, sda2, etc are partitions on your hard drive
everything after a (sdb, sdc, sdd) with a number after it (sdb1, for example) is a partition on a device that's usually removable storage. hth
When the DQN Short Novel thread is over I shall compile the posts... and then set it to music like I did with the madlib thread!

Somebody should make an audiobook of this thread as well and post it to archive.org. Is it hard to get your things to archive.org? I think it would pass as a contemporary art.
Anyway, way to fuck up a good story. http://4-ch.net/dqn/kareha.pl/1310158763/997 broke the 4th wall like an idiot and posted like it was Demanding from the next poster thread. I hope he accidentally slams his toe with a door.

Ah yes, there was mention of that in the previous thread, wasn't there? (http://4-ch.net/dqn/kareha.pl/1326391378/921-924)
I'm still happy to record a chapter or two in my spectacularly British accent, although my microphone is not great.
In other news, I'm very proud to have claimed both the 2 GET and the 999 GET. It feels so right.

( ß ƒŽß) Suddenly, I want to hear the voices of other dokyuns.
>>308
I love the British accent! Personally, I could provide fellow dokyuns with a terrible Russian accent. The last time I had to say anything lengthy in English was at least a year ago.
>>312
Haha. I like it. I can do a few myself - Australian, prohibition era mafia thug, French, Indian, harsh Russian, Italian, Asian... oh god this is going to be so much fun!
I wish we were organized enough to pick a narrator and voice actors for different characters. But that story was mostly action, wasn't it? And characters only had a couple of lines before they died or fell out of story line, hadn't they? We might as well get a professional narrator and an Indian tech support for the rest.
>>314
Let's do the next best thing and partition it into x sections of y posts long. Then we can claim section y and have the whole story narrated eventually. Is 50 posts each a good start? 70? 30? 999/50 = 20 sections. How's that sound to everyone?
section x*
>>315
How about we split them into the 10 sections that already exist? They are listed quite conveniently at http://tanasinn.info/wiki/DQN_Short_Novel.
The lengths of the sections vary widely, but that's okay. I think 10 sections is a good number, I doubt we'll have more than 10 people wanting to record.
If people are cool with this idea I'll make a wiki page for the recording project so people can claim sections!
The thing I most want in life is to be stabbed to death by a yanderekko.

Unless anyone else desperately wants it, I shall take the first chapter.

I set up a simple wiki page ala the Title Recording Project just so we can easily keep track of which chapters have been claimed. Feel free to edit it.
>>304
Ooh, okay. But where is the fstab file? Or more accurately, where is the one I'm supposed to use?

Oh thanks. With only the HDD and a SD card reader connected, this is the output:

If you guys can help me set this up, then I'll have a working iPod Nano 8GB that I got for a dollar out of a evil Japanese prize game!

I'm game for this. I could easily do a section in a night. I have a Northeast American accent. Give me whatever is the next available section that needs doing and I'll record it in one night.
Can I claim part 4 please, ("Chapter Three: Where the fuck is the plunger...") though I won't be home till next monday with my good microphone

Oh, so it's a being-cryptic-with-what-you-write-on-your-hands contest, is it? Well, back in secondary school (aged ~14) I created a fairly advanced code purely for writing notes to myself on my own hand. It wasn't a simple replacement code; it actually had up to three English letters per character.
Needless to say, I've completely forgotten the code itself and why I thought it was a good idea in the first place.
I wrote on my hand a lot when I was a kid. My dad said "You'll get ink poisoning!"... I'm still not sure if that was bullshit or not.
