I'm easy to troll on slow-moving boards like this. It just pisses me off that the shitposts of /jp/tards and their ilk will be part of this board forever, unless they get deleted by mods (which given the standards of /dqn/ at its best is quite unlikely).

Also, it's way past my bedtime and I'm cranky.

I find that one of the beautiful things about these boards, to be honest. We're not strictly trying to keep a clean record, and the posts--good or bad--will be around forever. We're not cherry-picking good posts to put in a time capsule. If some futuristic beings in the year 1994 look back on /dqn/, they'll see it exactly how it was.

Probably you forgot this (or possibly never heard of this):

``I think that it's extraordinarily important that we in computer science keep fun in computing. When it started out, it was an awful lot of fun. Of course, the paying customers got shafted every now and then, and after a while we began to take their complaints seriously. We began to feel as if we really were responsible for the successful, error-free perfect use of these machines. I don't think we are. I think we're responsible for stretching them, setting them off in new directions, and keeping fun in the house. I hope the field of computer science never loses its sense of fun. Above all, I hope we don't become missionaries. Don't feel as if you're Bible salesmen. The world has too many of those already. What you know about computing other people will learn. Don't feel as if the key to successful computing is only in your hands. What's in your hands, I think and hope, is intelligence: the ability to see the machine as more than when you were first led up to it, that you can make it more.''

Wishing on a dream that seems far off
Hoping it will come today

Into the starlit night,
Foolish dreamers turn their gaze,
Waiting on a shooting star

But, what if that star is not to come?
Will their dreams fade to nothing?
When the horizon darkens most,
We all need to believe there is hope

Is an angel watching closely over me?
Can there be a guiding light I've yet to see?
I know my heart should guide me, but,
There's a hole within my soul

What will fill this emptiness inside of me?
Am I to be satisfied without knowing?

I wish, then, for a chance to see,
Now all I need, [desperately]

I thought Katawa Shoujo was kind of boring but the music was nice.

Oh shit! I just realized that I'm going to learn sign language so I can talk with my girlfriend just like that guy in that game. I guess that eroge isn't all that different from real life after all? Fuck, did I just compare life to porn video games? I'm messed up!

584 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6838 09:42

Funny that you say that. I did Rin's route a few months ago and forgot about the game, but just last night I picked it back up on a whim. I played through Shizune's route and found myself thinking, 'I wonder how it would feel to play this while learning sign language to talk to a girl you like in real life?' No kidding, I actually thought exactly that.

I haven't played other VNs so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I was impressed by the art and detail. The plot and dialogue can be long-winded and angsty, and the sex scenes are laughably unrealistic, but I didn't expect much more from an eroge. All in all, it's a pretty fine game for what it is and a testament to the power of internet collaboration.

Why do you need money to make an album?

Why am I giving for a cause before it's even done anything?

Why not earn the money yourself if you need it? I might be able to get investors, but people on the streets wouldn't just give me money for a project even if it was noncommercial.

In which case you earn money to pay for those things.

Asking for free money because you're a content creator is dumb. Imagine if instead of saving up for their instruments, The Beatles went around Merseyside asking, "Hello, me and my friends are trying to start a band. Would you mind giving us a quid or two so we can afford instruments and a studio?"

Not to mention content creation is fun. Welders or bricklayers may be able to get an advance, but they can't say, "Oh I'll probably weld some trucks or lay a few bricks in the future. Mind giving me some money now?"

589 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6838 11:30

>>588
Well, the good thing about Kickstarter is that you only actually give people the money when the target sum is raised and work on the project begins, so you're not exactly paying for vague promises of some distant future outcome. It's more like promising "if you find enough other suckers to get started, I don't mind giving you a small amount".

This is my new favourite VN, and it pretty much changed my life. Sounds like eye-rolling material right? Well it's what happened. Most other visual novels were pretty much just about the porn and the subsequent fapping. Katawa Shoujo was not, and it showed me what life could be. Rin and Lilly both. Now I'm running, eating better, drawing, learning ASL, and going to college after two years of doing nothing. I have a better understanding of myself and my life and how I want to live and the happiness that I seek to obtain. That I will obtain.
All because of this "cripple porn game." Heh.

If you've been playing nothing but hentai VNs, sure.
I respect your appreciation of the game and the creativity which went into your inspired works, but for such a small project whose roots are in a niche game made for a niche audience and started itself with very few resources, I don't agree with you begging for money to do what so many others simply enjoy doing for fun.

By calling it "begging for money", "free money", or whatever, you don't seem to understand what this is for. It's more akin to theater production or concert promotion, where your backers spot you money for something that will end up turning a profit, and that thing isn't going to happen unless there is enough funding to get things started (unless you're trying to replicate the plot of The Producers for real).

Also, the game's FAQ says, "Selling fanworks that do not use official content (including the KS logo) and do not pretend to be official is okay." therefore it is okay. Don't get your knickers in a wad about it. Embrace Elitist Capitalism Lifestyle, fellow DQN.

That said, the proposal isn't very clear on what the product will be (is this a for-profit EP? on what formats? where will it be found when it's done?). One should always make this clear in a pitch; no backer should have to deduce this from anything other than the first couple paragraphs of "about this project". You know, before anyone thinks I have anything to do with supporting this project--which I will not be donating to because I am 100% fucking broke and live in my parents' basement (´_`)トホホ
