'pseudonym' is usually used in the sense of a self-bestowed title which one uses as a blanket under which his or her activities may be carried out in order to deter the credit given therein which would normally be associated with a more familiar, widely-known handle. It's not false, per se, but rather a deterrent from one's public and material identity.
I agree, however, and I think this is what you might have been getting at, that with the spread of information whose owner could be anyone, the notion of a static and unchanging alias which points only to the originator of the information itself is becoming less relevant.
