Yuen Ren Chao's General Chinese is the ideal system for importing the wealth of Sinitic literature, idiom, and vocabulary en masse into the West without privileging any one country that already has them baked in.

Unfortunately, it's not fucking practical for everyone on both sides of the gap to learn a new system. And there's not much interest to bridge it in the first place; I think it'd require a weird push from one of the Asian governments which would of course prefer their own standardized readings.

But it'd make things easier for me as a 和英 translator if I could CTRL+V "dhah kih vaan djaeng" for 大器晩成 and my audience would immediately understand that it's a 四字熟語 and that because it's in Roman alphabet it'd be easy to look up if one wished to know its meaning and that every extant phonetic reading of the Tao is some weird future language compared to Classical Chinese so there is literally nothing wrong with having an English pronunciation of it.
