the chorus follows with "if you want it" in the second verse, meaning that it is not so, but it might be so if you set to mind to it. john lennon is no dummy, the vietnam war was very much still going on at that point. if you ask me, it's a very good song for a rump that was meant to replace white christmas, an unbearable fucking jingle that sounds every year.

Yuen Ren Chao's General Chinese is the ideal system for importing the wealth of Sinitic literature, idiom, and vocabulary en masse into the West without privileging any one country that already has them baked in.

Unfortunately, it's not fucking practical for everyone on both sides of the gap to learn a new system. And there's not much interest to bridge it in the first place; I think it'd require a weird push from one of the Asian governments which would of course prefer their own standardized readings.

But it'd make things easier for me as a ˜a‰p translator if I could CTRL+V "dhah kih vaan djaeng" for ‘εŠν”Ӑ¬ and my audience would immediately understand that it's a ŽlŽšnŒκ and that because it's in Roman alphabet it'd be easy to look up if one wished to know its meaning and that every extant phonetic reading of the Tao is some weird future language compared to Classical Chinese so there is literally nothing wrong with having an English pronunciation of it.

Ended up choosing Going Under, fairly solid casual roguelite with a mild but focused satire on the tech industry. Main thing stopping it from being as easy as it believes itself to be it is is that the targeting system lacks finesse.

That didn't take long, so I started a campaign of Pathfinder: Kingmaker and it is just nuts that I'm getting anywhere even though there's an overwhelming number of things I don't have figured out (typical for a CRPG, especially one based on tabletop rules). Despite that every key fight and dungeon has been a struggle, I'm scraping through them somehow and that's probably a good sign balance-wise. CC (like Daze, Web, and Grease) is king for sure at these lower levels, that much is clear at least.

It's not ideal but the last 5 years or so has seen translations massively improve for important Chinese works to the point of the Tao Te Ching having translations acceptable for use in academia, so changing might not be necessary if the trend continues.
Also, with people reading less and the CCP getting stricter on content regarding the west I dont know how financially worthwhile translating things into Chinese would be these days

Textboards in general tend to have a unique userbase in that most tend not to be terminally online. There have been several posts to the effect of "I would've posted this, but now I write it in a journal." Or "I got married last year and I'm checking up on things here".

It wouldnt surprise me if the Chinese/Xiaboo dokyuns browsed Sina Weibo or WeChat.

There's much ado about sportswashing but very little promotion of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, for the casual public is likely unaware of the ownership structure in any league, code, or sport. There is more promotion of the Crown Prince through scathing journalism and a handful of useful idiots who buy the reform act, still, than any ownership of a football club or golfing organization is ever going to give him. The effectiveness of it is in question as well, considering that many, usually older, spectators feel overwhelming apathy towards the achievements and events because of the essentially unlimited resources state-owned enterprises have. Many other events accused of being sportswashing propaganda that are not fully owned by a state, such as combat sports and auto racing, are essentially glorified tourism advertisements. There is also the overuse of the word "genocide", Almost every armed conflict in the 21st century is labeled as such, and while technically true, I don't think the nature of international warfare is inherently genocidal. This may, in part, contribute to apathy and fatigue toward atrocities. I suppose turning a couple of hundred thousand hardcore fans of a sport or club into supporters of a regime is a thing that happens, but with how much investment in sport is made, this is certainly a frivolous investment when straight-up propaganda would be more effective. I suppose they tend to be the most vocal supporters of those regimes on social media, which is worth something.

It really isn't in terms of degree (which is what "different level" means, in case you didn't know).
People finally caught on to mercury and they've failed to "accidentally" kill a thanatophobic head of state since the 18th century. The claims are nowhere near as grandiose as becoming a ε now, relying instead on vague notions of "vitality" (boners), and endangered animals are considerably less toxic than "cold-food powder".

Also saw some lightning off in the distance. It made for an interesting combination - fireflies, occasional fireworks, and distant lightning all at once.

There used to be a site called 4u-beautyimg.com which was supposedly a "social image bookmarking site" but really it was basically just a ton of pictures of beautiful Japanese women, mostly gravure idols and occasional nudes. I'm pretty sure everything was posted by one Japanese dev who just really liked women. It was a simple site, a little bit sus/spammy, but I miss it.

Do you guys know any other sites that let you just mindlessly scroll through semi-nsfw pictures of beautiful women? Besides the obvious (4chan, tumblr, boorus). Maybe I should just go find some good torrents and amass my own collection.

Maybe memories change quite a bit with time, but I'm sure glad that I have extensive memories of realizing the changes occurring to my memories!

Here's a memory - I first heard that song in a Minecraft video on Youtube. Thanks for reminding me how much time I used to waste on the internet!

The rant in Japanese is, knowingly or not, trolling its readers to use an order that the employees wouldn't understand.
The suggested order isn't actually "extra green onion", it's ōmori negidaku gyoku ‘吷‚θ‚Λ‚¬‚Ύ‚ƒMƒ‡ƒN (large, onions, <???>), then he abbreviates it to ōmori gyoku. He purports that gyoku is for tamago ‹ΚŽq, but this is a topic of some contention on the Japanese 'net since no it isn't. But I assume (unlike the overly literal) that this is a typo where he meant to only use the kanji gyoku ‹Κ but did not remove Žq after using it to assist the IME, and actually meaning to allude that it's a code that abbreviates tamanegi "‹Κ”K". The thing is, negidaku at Yoshinoyas that offer it already is onions and not green onions despite the word used being negi.
So it would force the employees to remember you and your weird order, which might be undesirable to the sort of online loser who reframes his social anxiety as an antisocial attitude.

While the classic English version copipe has some memorable, dynamic lines, some other lines are not actually good translations in any respect.

Clarification (I do a lot of snoozeposting, I never know when my next sleep will hit but it's always big),
Negidaku is more like "onions on top", and since there are already onions, "extra onions" might be appropriate, but it doesn't match the paradigm of ordering toppings that well. If you know Yoshinoya's gyūdon, well, it's recipe doesn't have green onions in the first place; it's more of a bulgogi flavor profile. I can recommend it to amateurs, provided one does not have an onion sensitivity like I do.

Touhou arrangements having original lyrics and instrumentation but reusing the same old melodies is a lot like how hymns and ballads were adapted in past centuries. Like Greensleeves and Auld Lang Syne.

It feels like this was common up to the 21st century but modern
music considers it bad form and any new music like this must be labelled a 'parody'.

A lot of original public-domain melodies actually sound off compared to the versions commonly used now. Worse, for lack of a better term.
Like I would rather hear the common renditions of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" or "Seeing Nelly Home". Luther's "Ein Feste Burg" isn't bad at all, but it predates the modern period's strong preference for isometric music.
I imagine part of the fun for ZUN must be seeing some really technically awesome artists and musicians just go absolutely nuts on a mere spark of inspiration. At one point in my life that's what I was going for. I think I might have to settle for my biggest cultural impact being writing a phrase that's been "viewed" (certainly not read) over 1B times according to Facebook.

From my brief flirtation with it, I think there are a lot of different and rather narrow appeals that miss most people in general. Conlangers compared to each other tend to have rather incongruent goals with their products. Often, though, I get the impression it's like writing a story or making an illustration, but with linguistic features and phonetic aesthetics instead of narratives or paint.
The ones with any staying power, i.e. the ones with an actual audience or speakers, are attached to works of fiction or utopian aspirations. Neither of those really have to do with an interest in the act of constructing languages per se, so there's clearly a different desire there.

It feels like psychological literature mentions racial privilege as a formality when dealing with wealthy multiracial capitalist societies. It's obviously not as big a factor as being a Brazilian migrant worker's child in Japan for example, I'm not saying its not a factor but in papers it usually feels tacked on unless its the main subject of the page which usually is regarding isolated populations in homogenous countries.

Why are there no CD recording programs that allow you to restart from a partial/failed write? There's no technical impossibility here, I think it just comes down to programmer laziness. Burning CDs can be a roll of the dice depending on your setup, and the software I've used either works the first time, or fails and then tells you to fuck off and get another disc. I've wasted several perfectly good CD-Rs because of this. The world needs reliable CD recording, dammit!

Fable 1 is a better game about "growing up" than Earthbound/Mother 2 is, at least in regards to men. Both are arguably about trauma affecting growth and maturity, although in Fable YOU the player are kind of the Pokey in the story as you ruin Whisper's coming of age story. They're both about maladaptive coping, with Mother arguably being about using relationships and faith to cope and Fable a strict adherence to a moral code or lack thereof (although it is dumb how many of the big moral choices are about killing a high profile figure, when you do not get penalized for killing hordes of thieves). Mother 2 is probably more well-liked by people without nostalgia for it probably because pixel art ages better than early 3D, and also that many zany very-Japanese games do not get translated, although I will admit it is weird to compare two extremely different games because they have a similar central theme.

TANG was obliterated.

All that IS is domain of TANG. Love, Hate, Life, Death, Creation, Destruction, exist in seperate planes in TANG. In tanasinn all that Is already is Not. To seperate is state of Not from becoming TANG. Destruction of TANG vital bibliogical imperative for all tanasinn.

Tang must BE, for tanasinn to NOT. Thereforethly TANG IS while tanasinn is NOT. If TANG were to be NOT... such is Bear of scarcity THOUGHT!

Don't think, feel
@\and you will be tanasinn

I am come of the seed of the people, the people that sorrow; who have no treasure but hope, no riches laid up but a memory of an ancient glory. My mother bore me in bondage, in bondage my mother was born, I am of the blood of serfs; the children with whom I have played, the men and women with whom I have eaten have had masters over them, have been under the lash of masters,
and though gentle, have served churls. The hands that have touched mine, the dear hands whose touch Is familiar to me have worn shameful manacles, have been bitten at the wrist by manacles, have grown hard with the manacles and the task-work of strangers.. I am flesh of the flesh of these lowly, I am bone of their bone I that have never submitted; I that have a soul greater than the souls of my peoplefs masters, I that have vision and prophecy, and the gift of fiery speech, I that have spoken with God on the top of his holy hill. And because I am of the people, I understand the people, I am sorrowful with their sorrow, I am hungry with their desire; my heart is heavy with the grief of mothers, My eyes have been wet with the tears of children, I have yearned with old wistful men, and laughed and cursed with young men; their shame is my shame, and I have reddened for it Reddened for that they have served, they who should be free. Reddened for that they have gone in want, while others have been full, reddened for that they have walked in fear of lawyers and their jailors with their Writs of Summons and their handcuffs, men mean and cruel. I could have borne stripes on my body rather than this shame of my people. And now I speak, being full of vision: I speak to my people, and I speak in my peoplefs name to the masters of my people: I say to my people that they are holy, that they are august despite their chains. that they are greater than those that hold them and stronger and purer, that they have but need of courage, and to call on the name of their God, God the unforgetting, the dear God who loves the people for whom he died naked, suffering shame. And I say to my peoplefs masters: Beware. Beware of the thing that is coming, beware of the risen people who shall take what ye would not give. Did ye think to conquer the people, or that law is stronger than life, and than menfs desire to be free? We will try it out with you ye that have harried and held, ye that have bullied and bribed. Tyrantsc hypocritesc liars!

ƒfƒ… is not standard language, so everything you try will be found wrong by someone with no life. This is typed in IMEs by dhu, delyu, dexyu, and the only reality these reflect is the need to type it sometimes. I transliterate liberally according to the needs of the medium. The potential inconsistency bothers only me, it seems.
Where I was in elementary school, kids say "doosh" for the same concept, but there are understandable reasons to avoid that as a translation.

Ian Terence Botham, Baron Botham, OBE (born 24 November 1955) is an English cricket commentator, member of the House of Lords, a former cricketer who has been chairman of Durham County Cricket Club since 2017 and charity fundraiser. Hailed as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game,[2] Botham represented England in both Test and One-Day International cricket.

He played most of his first-class cricket for Somerset, at other times competing for Worcestershire, Durham and Queensland. He was an aggressive right-handed batsman and, as a right-arm fast-medium bowler, was noted for his swing bowling. He generally fielded close to the wicket, predominantly in the slips. In Test cricket, Botham scored 14 centuries with a highest score of 208, and from 1986 to 1988 held the world record for the most Test wickets until overtaken by fellow all-rounder Sir Richard Hadlee. He took five wickets in an innings 27 times, and 10 wickets in a match four times. In 1980, he became the second player in Test history to complete the "match double" of scoring 100 runs and taking 10 wickets in the same match. On the occasion of England's 1000th Test in August 2018, he was named in the country's greatest Test XI by the ECB.[3]

Botham has at times been involved in controversies, including a highly publicised court case involving rival all-rounder Imran Khan and an ongoing dispute with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

A lot has been made over the popularization and promotion of secularized Asian religious practices as "self-care" because of the popularity and material efficacy of meditation, but I think pushing a secularized TCM is a step too far.

If you do not believe in Qi and meridians, there is no reason to try it, especially as a lot of self-care manuals recommend acupuncture for some reason. I am curious if there is some sort of racket (e.g. the people publishing these articles and books are invested in TCM and meditation instructors) going on here.

Being Albanian is like being given a gift from God.

An advanced super race, with their own language, customs, culture, traditions and a rich history. A people who stand strong in the face of imperialism and West-European stupidity. Strong economy, strong army, strong nation, the proud Shqipëtar stands armed and ready to defend his pure nation from the wraths of sub-human, Bosnians, Serbs, Croatians, and other sub-human, animalistic, Slavic, animals. Oh how I thank God that I was born a handsome, tall, perfect Albanian warrior.

With dual histories, one from the great Ottoman warriors, discoverers, inventors, and intellectuals and another from the grandeur of the Albanian masters of Eastern-Europe I can proudly stand tall and say I am proud to be Albanian, and I will love my land until the very last day.

Long live Albania.
