boomer dad checked out of current music when he was deployed to a bunch of terrible places starting in 1978 or thereabouts and didn't return to stable record stores until grunge was a thing, so it just throws me off when he doesn't know nearly anything from an entire era of ungabunga rock that's more up his alley than anything that came out since returning to places with stable record stores.
probably shoulda revised that, fuck stream of consciousness sometimes

I am dreading the day when some old fogey in the Party realizes that the Chinese Internet's meme game is unstoppable and they should stop trying to top-down their soft power.
The upcoming imgur mass deletion is filling me with deep dread.

Psytrance and breakcore (incl. DQN music) are fun to listen to on the computer but make for very bad driving music.

Yuen Ren Chao's General Chinese is the ideal system for importing the wealth of Sinitic literature, idiom, and vocabulary en masse into the West without privileging any one country that already has them baked in.
Unfortunately, it's not fucking practical for everyone on both sides of the gap to learn a new system. And there's not much interest to bridge it in the first place; I think it'd require a weird push from one of the Asian governments which would of course prefer their own standardized readings.
But it'd make things easier for me as a 和英 translator if I could CTRL+V "dhah kih vaan djaeng" for 大器晩成 and my audience would immediately understand that it's a 四字熟語 and that because it's in Roman alphabet it'd be easy to look up if one wished to know its meaning and that every extant phonetic reading of the Tao is some weird future language compared to Classical Chinese so there is literally nothing wrong with having an English pronunciation of it.

Winged it harder than I've ever winged it before, and it somehow worked out fine!
Ended up choosing Going Under, fairly solid casual roguelite with a mild but focused satire on the tech industry. Main thing stopping it from being as easy as it believes itself to be it is is that the targeting system lacks finesse.
That didn't take long, so I started a campaign of Pathfinder: Kingmaker and it is just nuts that I'm getting anywhere even though there's an overwhelming number of things I don't have figured out (typical for a CRPG, especially one based on tabletop rules). Despite that every key fight and dungeon has been a struggle, I'm scraping through them somehow and that's probably a good sign balance-wise. CC (like Daze, Web, and Grease) is king for sure at these lower levels, that much is clear at least.
my captcha is chice. what does that mean.

It's not ideal but the last 5 years or so has seen translations massively improve for important Chinese works to the point of the Tao Te Ching having translations acceptable for use in academia, so changing might not be necessary if the trend continues.
Also, with people reading less and the CCP getting stricter on content regarding the west I dont know how financially worthwhile translating things into Chinese would be these days
