Any Reasons?
I was a FORMER Gaiafag. I liked it for a bit, then I realized everyone was more concerned more about their e-penis and vagoo than actually talking about things. And the RPing is extremely lame and clothes buying is about as evil and explotive as shit; and the monthly payments... What the hell, isn't that Real Money Trading? Yetch. And the lot, about 40% of people who discussed Anime, Real Life Drama and Video Games were total douches and for about another 20% were more concerned about what the hell their internet character's going to wear. And how did I become a former? Easy. Banned. For posting up the truth about how everyone was being total dicks and e-persona faggots.
If GaiaFagLand is going to be an MMORPG, there's one thing I can see; it's going to be fucking failing below what we're seeing now.

Gaia is going down hill just like Neopets. All the items are fucking expensive. The so called "rich" people on Gaia are so fucking full of themselves because they gave a OMG, or DJ's or Devil Tail. I mean seriously..WTF..Gaia was once a great place to hang out and escape form the real world. Now its filled with bunch of losers who are afraid to show there faces in the real world.

Yeah I remember I used to go on there, then someone hacked me and used my account for random disgusting sh*t. I got emails on it like weeks later say Tos whatever so I was like er ok lets spam some more texted porn in my email... Thats pretty much when I stopped going on it. That and the site has become a Internet cash cow. In all honesty though the site from what my friend said reached its height of popularity like 3ish years ago so chances are that 90% of the site is new people that are unaware, trolls, creepy people having e-sex, people who THINK they are smart (and in the case of the anime forums people who watched one show that wasn't mainstream and declared themselves epic), then there's the General discussion which is the wannabe 4-chan, and combinations of said catagories. the other less then 10% consists of know-it-all lazy mods, and the few actuall intellegent people that go on sometimes but are mildly stupid enough to keep using it. I'm just waiting for that site to die already

Sites better than Gaia? Anyone?
Gaia used to be a cool place to hang out and have an actual discussion. I can't even begin to tell you all the new music, sites, brands, books, movies, games, etc I found through conversations in the forums.
But it got too big to handle which resulted in a) the mods couldn't keep up with the noobs and trolls and b) everything became pay-to-play in order to keep the site running.
Such a shame. Hopefully future communities can learn from Gaia's mistakes and nip problems in the ass before they start.
Solia is pretty cool. The layout is smooth, the graphics are pleasant, the avatars and items are well done, and most importantly the community is small, intelligent, kind, and vibrant
I actually happen to like gaiaonline.
Seems to be a decent place for anyone as long as you arent a douchbag.

I used to use Gaia back in the early years when the site wasn't so huge. I came across it during a web search and was like, "Oh, cute online dress-up avatars! Let's try this!" Like, the donation items were alright, but I feel like they went a little overboard with the cash shop, evolving items, random item generators... so on and so forth. Thankfully I had enough sense to not spend money after they introduced all the new cash junk.
Oh, and the events have always been boring click-spam crap, and the mini-games are all worthless. I can't believe the boring things I'd do just to get some new accessories and stuff for my avatar. I never cared for the community, all I really did there was collect items. If I wanted to actually post things, I'd just stick to guilds. But then my favorite guild closed up so I started to distance myself from the site. I came back sometime later to find it even more of a mess than before, and just RMT'd all my rare items and called it a day. It gave me a nice feeling.
Even then, I didn't learn my lesson and repeated the whole process over at TinierMe. Ugh.
From now on, I'll just stick to those avatar generators.

Getting banned is easy, but since they don't IP ban, you can just append "v#" to your username and come back instantly.

I think that shit happens for the fact that people can be fucking stupid. You get banned there are two options. Either you did it, or some random ass shit that fell out of the sky did it.
