Thread to talk about actor Tom Hiddleston

here's a link to photos from last night première in Paris for Thor:The Dark World

It's probably the light, like in this pic from the Berlin première it looks like he has a bruise on his knuckle

This man gets older with every promotional tour.

He is on Alan Carr on Nov.1st right?
On CB I read he will be at Chelsea Lately on Nov.5th

6 Name: Couch Potato : 2013-10-30 14:28 ID:Heaven

he will also be at another NY morning show on Nov 1st, probably no there physically.

Just read this:

"We’re very happy to announce that #Coriolanus has been extended to 13 February, with 6 extra performances" Link

I thought Hiddleston was supposed to fly to Toronto for CrimsonPeak 2 days after the end of Coriolanus, I guess they'll accommodate for him. I wonder at this point if, after all, he will be attending BAFTA.

15 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-14 16:41 ID:Heaven

Also he will appear in a Jaguar's commercial for the Super Bowl as a villain.

16 Name: yep : 2014-01-14 17:26 ID:2sM5vKfp

In Crimson Peak he's just a supporting actor, maybe he can go later

17 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-15 21:17 ID:cdfMizA7

I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't bring this up but can we all laugh at the fact that JA favorite this tweet?

“@UberFacts: The brain naturally craves 4 things: Food, Sex, Water and Sleep.” And Tom Hiddleston. Not necessarily in that order.

18 Name: fed : 2014-01-16 05:16 ID:2sM5vKfp

That woman. She's a complete idiot

19 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-16 07:35 ID:Heaven

Goodness!
Not only that show how very stupid she is, but also that she follows the Hiddleston's fan that wrote that tweet.

And now I'm not even sure she is a fwb if she has a craving, lols. No wonder she was demoted to friend after Wimbledon. She is an embarrassment.

20 Name: yep : 2014-01-16 14:42 ID:2sM5vKfp

An adult woman who acts like a puppy dog. She's an insult to every indipendent woman

21 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-17 03:38 ID:ZO0EoeLF

I just looked, she's favorited two TH-related tweets: the one mentioned above, and another of a link to a youtube video of Tom at the stage door after Coriolanus. She doesn't follow the first person, I didn't check the second. I suppose she was searching for Tom stuff on Twitter. Crazy.

22 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-17 08:30 ID:tHCZKuyg

I really find it unlikely that if she was dating him (fwb/gf) she would need to do this, not to mention all the other things.

23 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-17 08:33 ID:tHCZKuyg

Video of the jaguar commercial
http://youtu.be/Kr8yfOfU2Wc

I guess until he will have a major role in another film, in the US he will always be the villain guy from Thor.

24 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-17 09:46 ID:ZO0EoeLF

It's a shame. Not that I don't like him as Loki, but I'd hate for that to be the only role he's really known for. Hopefully he'll land a non-villainous lead in a big film soon... although from the Coriolanus reviews I've heard his career could really take off in theatre work, which I think would also be great for him.

25 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-17 10:53 ID:tHCZKuyg

I agree that theatre could really be great for him, but I think he might know that too. That RT he did of Simon Russell Beale's interview on the Telegraph, where Beale when asked about a career in America answers he'd love that but nothing makes him as happy as being in a Shakespeare play at the National, when I read it I thought that could be the reason he RT, because he feels the same.

26 Name: yep : 2014-01-17 16:12 ID:2sM5vKfp

>>23 and that commercial doesn't help

27 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-17 19:08 ID:tHCZKuyg

From Elle UK twitter

"And on the subject of lovely announcements relating to Tom Hiddleston, there may or may not be an exclusive picture involved. Just sayin..."

"And on the subject of Tom Hiddleston, we have a rather lovely announcement coming next week..."

Any guess?

28 Name: yep : 2014-01-17 19:12 ID:UDo5VwFY

He's gonna marry? Have a baby? Maybe with JA so I'll stop laugh in 2019

29 Name: anon : 2014-01-17 19:16 ID:tHCZKuyg

My, that would be so lame, an announcement about his love life, maybe from the same journalist from Wimbledon!

30 Name: yep : 2014-01-17 19:20 ID:UDo5VwFY

EXACTLY

31 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-17 19:42 ID:tHCZKuyg

Imagine the question "so, after Wimbledon, when you said there was nothing home to write about and that you were single, what exactly happened?" lol

I read some of the comment to those tweet and somebody actually wrote "engagement announcement". In wonder if some fan will ask tonight at stage door.

I can't imagine though why an actor would need a fashion magazine for an announcement connected to his work, unless it's another interview like the one he did with Portman?

32 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-17 23:28 ID:ZO0EoeLF

An engagement/relationship announcement in a magazine would be kind of lame and not his usual way of doing things. I think he'd at least show up on a red carpet or something with a woman first before doing a magazine spread.

33 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-18 04:48 ID:ZO0EoeLF

Maybe he's going to be doing some modelling? Or a clothing line? That would explain the exclusive picture and the fact that the announcement is coming from a fashion magazine.

34 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-18 07:44 ID:JC5UXi/B

>>32 Oh I agree, I was joking about the engagement/relationship announcement, it wouldn't be like him at all.

35 Name: yep : 2014-01-18 09:00 ID:2sM5vKfp

Seriously talking. An announcement about private life in a fashion magazine it would be kind of weird

36 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-01-18 18:50 ID:cdfMizA7

Tom won't be meeting with play goers at Donmar's stage door for the rest of Coriolanus' run. Apparently something happened last night.

37 Name: yep : 2014-01-18 21:48 ID:2sM5vKfp

Soneone asked about his impending marriage? Joking, I'm joking, curious to know what happened

38 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-18 22:25 ID:JC5UXi/B

>>36 any detail? or a link to the report?

40 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-18 22:35 ID:JC5UXi/B

But I still don't know what happened.

41 Name: yep : 2014-01-19 08:33 ID:2sM5vKfp

Nobody knows

42 Name: yep : 2014-01-19 11:38 ID:2sM5vKfp

Maybe it's this "We saw the girl next to us leaving during the applause (she crawled over us) to rush to the exit and the stage door. She was not alone in doing this, other girls were leaving early as well. When we left (after the applause, like well behaved people do) we heard the security guy talking to the other staff about people leaving during the applause. They were not happy about it." And another "I will say first that a couple of girls skipped the applause after the play and tried to que outside and Tom’s security guard shooed them away saying that they had no respect to clap they have no respect for Tom. So if you are going to meet Tom afterwards take this into account" (link http://dont-think-about-elephants.tumblr.com/post/73817316307/coriolanus-was-brilliant-and-definitely-some-of)

44 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-19 11:53 ID:u8169Sac

That's probably it, or maybe all of it put together. A few days ago I read a fan reporting a piece of conversation with him at stage door where Hiddleston said some fans haven't been really nice of recent.

I don't know if he really won't do stage door anymore, or if eventually he will change his mind. But I can't say I blame him.

45 Name: yep : 2014-01-19 12:47 ID:2sM5vKfp

It's disrespectful for all the people involved, donmar staff e other actors, house manager probably aked him to stop SD and he agreed

>>50 Maybe she thinks they'll post it on the door of the theatre? Or forward it to all the Coriolanus ticket holders? I don't know, I'm pretty baffled by this one.

53 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-21 02:17 ID:ZO0EoeLF

Looks like we'll have to wait at least another day for the Elle announcement. Their tweet on the 17th said "next week" so they could theoretically drag this out until Friday if they wanted. I don't think they will, though... the excitement and speculation will have died down too much by then.

There's also supposed to be some news tomorrow about an Only Lovers Left Alive event happening in London (according to the OLLA twitter).

54 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-21 07:33 ID:ITpCUXJt

About that OLLA event in London, he is busy in theatre so I doubt he would be able to attend a screening preview event, unless they do it on Sunday. I also don't think it's related to the ELLE tweet because why OLLA would need ELLE to make announcement when they can easily do it on their own?

Other than the simplest answer, fashion shoots/interview, I thought it might have something to do with London fashion week, but it's from February 14th to 18th and in theory he should be on his way to Toronto.

55 Name: yep : 2014-01-21 08:03 ID:2sM5vKfp

56 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-21 08:08 ID:ITpCUXJt

WTF!
Which basically translates as "fuck I can't go do stage door and meet Tom anymore/again, and mabe he won't do red carpets like used to do, let's do a fundraise to show how normal we are"

Does she really think he would be happy they collect money for a theatre to fix their own mess?

57 Name: yep : 2014-01-21 10:17 ID:2sM5vKfp

And I agree with this comment on CB

"I want to add again what Elle did was Fan manipulation and possible fan baiting. They have worded the tweet to keep fans speculating on what the news is to try and sell magazines. However it has turned out worse for Tommy as there was already rumors of a secret girlfriend, plus he has had stage door problems it wasn’t in his best interest for this tweet. Yet Elle seem not to care he has nutties and haven’t followed up the tweet with anything less conspicuous."

Whatever it'll be, tacky tacky move from Tom and his PR

58 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-21 11:40 ID:ITpCUXJt

To a degree, because if you are intelligent you know they are playing on words to manipulate you and the solution is simple: don't buy their magazine or when they'll tweet the news say something.

In a way, this manipulation turned out worse for ELLEUK more than Tom, the news that he won't be doing stage door anymore took over the other, except on CB, there isn't that much buzz about it.

And while of course Tom collaborating with ELLEUK is done as PR to keep him in the spotlight given the lack of news for future projects (kudos to his PR in that sense because clearly very few of his fans have that perception), it's not like he gets a warning about tweets, ELLEUK didn't even use a direct mention of his name.
Take the woman of the LoveBook app, she used the JA rumour to promote the app release and nobody thought it was tacky of Tom (mostly because we were all busy laughing at JA for unfollowing the woman, but still...).

59 Name: yep : 2014-01-21 12:03 ID:2sM5vKfp

I see your point, I wouldn't have buy anything in any case. First I'm a grown up woman second I like TH on stage, or film, but not the way he manages himself and his fame. He has to change his PR to me

60 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-21 13:57 ID:ITpCUXJt

Big secret is out, at the end of ELLEUK review of OLLA.

"The film is a small slice of heaven. If you want to know more, check out ELLE March issue (on sale 30 January) for our exclusive shoot with Mr Hiddleston himself, his most revealing interview ever (yes, really), and a rather spectacular short film which will be posted on this very site shortly."

lol at "his most revealing interview ever (yes, really)"

http://www.elleuk.com/star-style/news/only-lovers-left-alive-review-tom-hiddleston-tilda-swinton#image=1

61 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-21 14:03 ID:ITpCUXJt

Curious though about the "spectacular short film"

62 Name: yep : 2014-01-21 14:09 ID:2sM5vKfp

Revealing = clutching at straws

63 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-22 03:15 ID:ZO0EoeLF

Well now the CB crowd is convinced that the interview is "revealing" because he's going to announce some secret girlfriend there. After the letdown of the "lovely announcement" that turned out to be an interview and photoshoot, I'm surprised people are still reading so much into Elle's wording.

64 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-22 07:39 ID:sy3yjBxQ

That's because the crowd that used to infest DL threads, from trolls to people who can't follow a logical argument, are now infesting CB.

I feel sorry for the few that comment bringing evidence and trying to debunk because it's pointless. Actually the more you tell them they are wrong the more they believe they are right.
A perfect example of a simulacrum.

65 Name: yep : 2014-01-22 09:18 ID:2sM5vKfp

This man never stops to amuse me

66 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-22 09:56 ID:ZO0EoeLF

So Elle tweets "Need a new Hiddle-fix? You'll be wanting to watching this rather brilliant film then then, right @twhiddleston?" with a link to their website. I click on it, assuming it's the short film they teased yesterday... but no. It's a link to the same OLLA review they've tweeted at least twice already.

Elle is getting on my nerves. The only reason I'm even checking their twitter at all is to see if they give any more details about the short, which is of course why they're doing what they're doing.

67 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-22 10:13 ID:sy3yjBxQ

>>66 I agree, their behaviour is very annoying, one tweet is acceptable, but this is like they think we are all morons.

68 Name: yep : 2014-01-22 10:15 ID:2sM5vKfp

It's what they think thanks to LW

69 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-22 10:24 ID:sy3yjBxQ

Btw, JA has just favourite a RT of a TH fans about yesterday ELLEUK tweet. This woman is quite the case study.

>>68 or the actions of TH's fandom. After Donmar I think it's quite clear to everybody how obsessive they are.
Still, I don't get why LW only has this kind of PR with TH.

70 Name: yep : 2014-01-22 10:50 ID:2sM5vKfp

TH fandon is not different from other fandoms. Matt Smith has had same problems outside theatre and so it'll be for BC this fall.

Don't make TH a victim, he could stop this before, he didn't

71 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-22 10:55 ID:sy3yjBxQ

>>70 I'm not making him a victim of his fandom, his indirect way of asking his fans to behave was way too mild.
What I meant is that ELLEUK taking advantage of it didn't need any input from LW, just knowing TH's fandom.

72 Name: yep : 2014-01-22 10:59 ID:2sM5vKfp

>>69 That's what I don't understand, she works in this business she's a kind of PR, how is possible she doesn't how twitter works? That everyone can see your subscriptions or favourites?

73 Name: anonsy : 2014-01-22 11:10 ID:ZO0EoeLF

>>69 She is ridiculous. I don't even know what to think of her, except that she's way more into him than he is into her, regardless of the label on their relationship.

>>72 Agreed, I don't see how someone could work in her industry and not understand twitter. At the very least she must know that when you favorite someone's tweet it notifies that person... even if favorites weren't publicly listed, all it would take would be for her to favorite the tweet of one highly obsessive fangirl who'd post it all over tumblr. Secret relationship my ass.

74 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-22 11:21 ID:sy3yjBxQ

>>72
Because she is into him, not the other way around.

If they really had something going on and they were keeping it quiet then her behaviour doesn't make sense. TH and LW letting her act like this doesn't make sense. And his comments on GQ or that Standard interviews would be make him look like a complete fool.

But if instead we say: "she clearly is into him, but that's just her, he moved on" then everything makes sense.
I think somehow she still hopes he will change his mind.

The whole problem originated from that ELLEUK journalist who mentioned JA in her tweet naming her his gf.

  • ELLEUK's journalist made it up? sounds very unlikely.
  • JA was his gf at Wimbledon but things fell apart? In one day? (he went to Murray's Wimbledon after party alone)
  • JA was not his gf at Wimbledon, journalist misunderstood (but why would she name JA his gf out of a personal supposition?)
  • JA was not his gf at Wimbledon, but in her mind she was, she ran her mouth, journalist did her tweet, TH didn't like that and cut ties.

On the other hand, while that tweet caused all the confusion it's also the reason why a fwb situation seems unlikely.
Why introduce a fwb as your gf?

75 Name: yep : 2014-01-22 12:35 ID:2sM5vKfp

We'll see, waiting for interview. Probably he's gonna say "we're just friends" no acknowledgement no denial

Btw, speaking of manipulation, kudos to Celebitchy because before they jumped on this ELLEUK interview, the last TH post only had 45 comments. Not that that would have been possible without an army of brainless individual. They are still rambling on, lol.

Theatre or movie? Because with Whedon's version out there I don't know about a movie, but would be great in theatre too.

>“I don’t much care for Coriolanus as a play, so I spent my time admiring the curve of Tom Hiddleston’s arse again.”

this was taken verbatim from a tumblr blog, I remember reading that girl "report" of Coriolanus. As was this

>“For me the Coriolanus experience was ruined by one girl who kept trying to approach Tom Hiddleston. She wasn’t in the queue, so the security guard naturally kept trying to stop her and eventually had to start physically moving her away, picking her up and moving her. This happened about six times before I couldn’t watch it any more and I just went home.”
>THE GATISS/ HIDDLE HUDDLE
>Stage directions: An exclusively female line of dedicated fans, mostly under 30. Some have even seen the play.

And once again, no award for OLLA, I don't understand how a film can be acclaimed by critics and win nothing.
http://www.sundance.org/festival/stories/award-winners/

93 Name: Boo : 2014-01-26 14:36 ID:PSjIqAF5

A lot of critically acclaimed films don't necessarily win awards. Sundance tend to recognise new filmakers anyway.

94 Name: anonymous : 2014-01-26 15:24 ID:Heaven

And what's the excuse for the other festivals?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying that film isn't good, quite the opposite. Well reviewed films have a tendency to win something. Why would one bother to enter a festival if not to get recognition?

I wonder if there'll be some changing after what happened at Donmar and his retreat from twitter, or Lawrence Fox comments.

98 Name: yep : 2014-01-26 15:41 ID:2sM5vKfp

Hmm, I don't think so

So every well-reviewed film should win an award? That's not how it works. I saw OLLA at LFF and while I thought it was great it didn't blow me away like 12 Years a Slave did for example (not a good comparison I know as 12YAS is an exceptional film). And festivals are also a way for indies to get screened and gain publicity, and in the 1st showings get a distribution deal (OLLA didn't have a distributor til it was shown at Cannes).

And I'm not saying that either. I've just said that OLLA was presented at many festivals around the world and that all critics at all these festival loved it, but it didn't result in any award.I just find that an oddity.
