Looks like we'll have to wait at least another day for the Elle announcement. Their tweet on the 17th said "next week" so they could theoretically drag this out until Friday if they wanted. I don't think they will, though... the excitement and speculation will have died down too much by then.

To a degree, because if you are intelligent you know they are playing on words to manipulate you and the solution is simple: don't buy their magazine or when they'll tweet the news say something.

In a way, this manipulation turned out worse for ELLEUK more than Tom, the news that he won't be doing stage door anymore took over the other, except on CB, there isn't that much buzz about it.

And while of course Tom collaborating with ELLEUK is done as PR to keep him in the spotlight given the lack of news for future projects (kudos to his PR in that sense because clearly very few of his fans have that perception), it's not like he gets a warning about tweets, ELLEUK didn't even use a direct mention of his name.
Take the woman of the LoveBook app, she used the JA rumour to promote the app release and nobody thought it was tacky of Tom (mostly because we were all busy laughing at JA for unfollowing the woman, but still...).

Well now the CB crowd is convinced that the interview is "revealing" because he's going to announce some secret girlfriend there. After the letdown of the "lovely announcement" that turned out to be an interview and photoshoot, I'm surprised people are still reading so much into Elle's wording.

That's because the crowd that used to infest DL threads, from trolls to people who can't follow a logical argument, are now infesting CB.

So every well-reviewed film should win an award? That's not how it works. I saw OLLA at LFF and while I thought it was great it didn't blow me away like 12 Years a Slave did for example (not a good comparison I know as 12YAS is an exceptional film). And festivals are also a way for indies to get screened and gain publicity, and in the 1st showings get a distribution deal (OLLA didn't have a distributor til it was shown at Cannes).

And I'm not saying that either. I've just said that OLLA was presented at many festivals around the world and that all critics at all these festival loved it, but it didn't result in any award.I just find that an oddity.

This happens a lot, and as 96 pointed out Jarmusch has hardly won any awards although hes a highly regarded filmaker. I'd say it was odd that Brokeback Mountain didn't win Best Picture, but that's easily explained by the Craft members of the academy (mainly men) not wanting to vote for a gay love story. It can be politics as well.

Tumblr is ridiculous with their self-righteousness. You can't control other people's actions, so why worry about them so much, and hound someone who doesn't do exactly as you say? I'm not encouraging obsessive, fangirl behavior by any means, but I'd say Tom is a big boy who can handle himself and should be expecting people taking pictures of him (not saying he likes it--it should just be expected, and I'm sure it is). Tumblr should cool it; aggressively blogging about it isn't going to change anything. It just makes people like me laugh about their condescending attitude.

Expecting moderation by a fandom on tumblr is out of question, they make a drama or give extra meaning to the most insignificant things.

I'd say it's much worse a person who follows him out of the theatre to the tube than somebody asking for a photo, at least the second can be refused or replaced with an autograph. It seems like they don't realize he is a grown man, 33 years old, not some boy in need of their protection.

When nobody will post pics of him anymore for fear of an internet aggression, they'll probably complain about the lack of news.

I quite like the shit it stirs up in the fandom (I hate that word) when someone attempts to wade in and tries to educate everyone about fan etiquette. The amount of overreacting is so staggering you can only laugh at it all. I'm sure Tom is beyond giving a shit at this point (well, until Thor 3 - if he's in it, when he might need them all back for marketing purposes).
The best ones are the white-knights who come up with these charitable endeavors to make amends and convince Tom "we're not all like that". So far we have a fundraising appeal for the Donmar Warehouse, a blood drive (organised under the pretense that it was done for his birthday but is primarily because this particular fan is desperate for Tom's attention) and a letter of apology currently being drawn up by a small group of fans because some people stood in an airport arrival lounge to get a picture with Tom and they feel this has brought the fandom into disrepute.

He actually sounds good there. Amazing what studio magic can do, because, according to various interviews and occasions, he can't really sing live well at all. Haha. Also, it figures that he (as posh sounding as he is) is one that doesn't "change" or "lose" parts of his accent when he sings (such as Adele, Olivia Newton-John, and his friend Eddie Redmayne to an extent, etc.). With all these rumours of stalkers in Toronto, I wonder if anything was done about the girl stalking him in his local cafe.

A little more details about which one you are referring to, because there were several claims of stalkers around his neighbourhood. I remember the one who took a pic of him walking back home with a grocery shop, she was in London for Coriolanus and then left England. (Or are you referring to a local cafe in Toronto?)

Generally I don't believe any of this supposed encounters, unless there are pictures because, you know, it's not that difficult to google his name in relation to his neighbourhood and find out where he generally goes to have breakfast and make up a believable story.

The guy who wrote that TH told him that he wants his fans to back off etc is ridiculous, like he would tell a fan to report to other fans what he wants.
But the most funny in Toronto remains the bunch who claimed to have followed him to his hotel room, like they would even be allowed inside the hotel.

Speaking of upcoming films for TH, I've just read about Captain American 3 release date for May 2016, which leaves 3 slots of untitled Marvel movies, one in 2016, one in 2017 and one in 2018. But, since on Scarlett Johanson IMDb page a Black Widow movie was added few days ago, I'm thinking that will be the other film for 2016 while Thor3 will be released on 2017 before Avengers3 in 2018.

I think Haunted Peak is just a shooting name. A lot of films shoot under different names to maintain privacy, though Crimson Peak isn't exactly on everyone's radar.

After someone posted that he was going to London, she said "he was going to Tahiti with his gf", which has been deleted. Looks like she assumed this as a woman was travelling with him. I'm anticipating a fangirl meltdown with this one.

It's not unusual for someone to get a job because of someone they know. The old saying is definitely true - "it's not what you know, it's who you know." She did seem a bit trashy in her uncensored Twitter, but Hiddleston is no prince. The Amsterdam Trip for one, and he is also no shy about swearing or drinking. Who knows what either of them are really like?

I think that ELLEUK journalist who did his latest interview was right in saying he's a difficult one to point down.

To me he seems like a guy who likes to be friendly with many, but lets very few get really close. And he seems to like the idea of having people counting on him, he likes taking responsibilities upon himself. Those aren't traits of a teenager, but of a grown-up man.
At the same time he likes people to like him, the circus bear act like he called it, revealing a certain degree of personal insecurity. Like that journalist wrote, he's very confident when it comes to his work, less when it comes to himself. Which probably makes it easier for fangirls like JA to get his interest. In this it's a luck that he has sisters, he'd be very easy to manipulate otherwise.

It's all quite amusing.

People are panicking because Tom's name isn't on the latest list of celebs to attend the Gala on Sunday. There's nothing to state he won't attend, only that more people are attending.

Cancel what I said about him being fine with the singing, I've just read about Hank Williams singing...I know the article says TH will sing but no way he can do a yodel! Better if they leave the original.

The only problem, if it can be thought as a problem, I see with this biopic is that country music means nothing outside the US, so the figure of Hank William has little interest internationally. It might be a difficult film to distribute and sell to the public.

Country singers have a very distinctive voice. I live in the US and can't stand it even though I'm from an area where it's pretty popular. I doubt a posh British actor who is not at all a singer can pull the tone off successfully haha. When I first heard the news, I sighed.

This fact could help and hurt Tom. Tom has never been nominated. Best Actor is the toughest award to win since there are so many meaty roles for men. I think they would give the Oscar to someone who had already been previously nominated, because it would be "their time finally." For Tom, a nomination by the Academy at this stage would be good enough for his career and seen by them as an honorable gesture.

However, a nomination depends largely on the films itself. Oscar movies are almost exclusively released late in the year (November/December), just in time for Award Season. They are often low-budget with a limited release. As soon as there is a release date for I Saw the Light, then we'll be able to tell if it's Spring-easy viewing, Summer-blockbuster, or Late Fall-Oscar bait category. If it's not planned to be released late in the year (and they set a date then change it if the studio thinks the film is not as Oscar baity as originally thought, i.e. The Great Gatsby), then an Oscar for the film or an actor/actress is simply just not going to happen.

Plus, I'm still very skeptical of his singing. Critics will rip him apart, especially since he is a Brit trying to play an American "legend" (I'd never heard of him before this but to each there own, he's probably very well-known in some circles). We are generally not so forgiving when foreigners try to play our legends in movies.

Luke Evans was there, and he was one of the names that had been removed from the edited list of celebrity guests, along with Tom Hiddleston. My guess is that there was some sort of High Rise pre-production thing today that Evans either finished in time or was able to get out of at the last minute, but Hiddleston got stuck. Just a guess. I could be wrong, but I doubt that Tom is in hiding because of some stupid rumors on a couple of websites (as some of the crazies on tumblr seem to believe).

I don't think he missed this event because his fans are talking about Tahiti-pic, nor I think he missed it because he feared questions since there was no red carpet and the event was very controlled and somewhat private. Even if some journalist had asked him about it, Luke was tweeted the photo with a request to confirm if it was true or not the moment it surfaced on the internet (TH was obviously aware from the moment he agreed to it), in 2 weeks I'm sure they could have come up with a suitable response to give.

On the other hand, just because of work....He managed to find time for Top Gear and Jag, I find hard to believe he couldn't take a moment. Besides, if the reason was that simple why not tweeting "good luck" or something like it to SLJ etc. Yes, I know he might have done that by email, what I mean is that he was publicly listed, so a tweet would have looked nicer.

Someone from the clique circle at LSA wrote that he wasn't there because he dumped JA, which I think it means if he showed alone at an event so soon after a photo of them on holiday together it would seem bizarre, and not only to those who think they are a couple. During TDW press tour many journalists asked him about tumblr, it's not like what is posted there is only ever read by his fans.

Don't know, I stick to my theory JA was never more than a downgrade version of Sian. But hey, next chance is Wimbledon.

There were others on the GQ list who in my opinion, have higher public profiles in the UK than Tom and none of them were at the event either. Chris Evans was listed but wasn't there, Graham Norton and Tinie Tempah were also advertised as attendees but they didn't show up and neither of them tweeted anything about the event before or after. I know they aren't huge international stars but they have household name recognition over here unlike Tom who is mostly tumblr and twitter famous. My guess is that he was penciled in as a maybe and something else came up just like the other guests who didn't show but because Tom has a tonne of over invested tumblr fangirls who make up a large part of his fanbase, they all freak out.
People are making a mountain out of a molehill and of course that idiot who runs the tumblr website will no doubt take all the credit for his no show.

Tom Hiddleston has been working on the nasal twang that was the distinctive trademark of country music legend Hank Williams, whom the star will portray in what he called ‘the opportunity of a lifetime’.

Yesterday, he spoke exclusively to me about the hillbilly with the ‘crooked smile and a wary eye’ he’ll play in I Saw The Light.

The movie will begin shooting in October in Louisiana, although Hiddleston has already started learning how to sing Williams’s doleful ballads with the help of Country & Western star Rodney Crowell. Tom will have to replicate those bluesy vocals and play the guitar.

Hiddleston told me I Saw The Light will chart the singer’s life from his turbulent first marriage to Audrey Mae Sheppard in 1944, through his early radio career to his auspicious debut, in 1949, at the home of country music, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

'The film is about the man behind the myth, the power of his music, the sheer voltage of his talent and charisma, and his formidable demons,’ Hiddleston continued.

‘He worked hard, played hard, lived hard — there were women, there was whiskey — but when he sang about being in the doghouse in Move It On Over, or about his heartbreak in I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, it came from an honest place.’

Marc Abraham’s screenplay ‘pulls no punches’, the actor added, and explores Williams’s ‘shattering, self-abusive relationship with alcohol and later prescription drugs’.

The singer, who suffered debilitating back pain from a congenital disorder of the spine, died of a heart attack on New Year’s Day in 1953.

Abraham, who will also direct, saw Hiddleston in Coriolanus and knew he had his man, even though the RADA-trained British thespian may seem an unlikely fit for the farm boy from Mount Olive, Alabama.

But Abraham said Tom has the rare ability to ‘transform himself’.

Hiddleston adds: ‘Hank’s life has a tragic arc, but in simple truth, he was a genius: a star that burned twice as bright and lived half as long. It’s a huge role for me and a huge responsibility. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.’

He means it too.

Tom told me: ‘I’ve already started singing and playing every day’.

Rodney Crowell, the Grammy-award winning country music legend, is helping.

‘He came down to visit me over the Easter weekend in Toronto where I was filming Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Pea” and we jammed for a day or so. It was so exciting. We had some coffee and did some talking and then we just started playing. 

'It was spine-tingling just to spend a day playing some of Hank's greatest hits like Hey Good Lookin’ and Long Gone Lonesome Blues with such a gifted musician. He's already expanded my vocal range and given me a few pointers about adapting my own tone to sound like Hank. Rodney has furnished me with his beautiful J45 Gibson to practice with. And he'll be on hand throughout the shoot,’ Tom added.

He explained that Williams played rhythm guitar in 1-4-5 chord progressions that are heavily influenced by the blues greats: Mississippi John Hurt and R. L. Burnside and by country legends like Roy Acuff.

‘But his poetry, his lyrics, ache with raw vulnerability and emotion. And he sang them with all his heart.

They didn’t call him ‘The Hillbilly Shakespeare’ for nothing. How Hank sang and how Hank played – that’s the work I have to do’.
