I could see my aura yesterday!! It did not have the colour that I expected it to, but when I looked up the description it fitted me a lot. Ahh, I am so happy that I could see it. If we’re going to be really technical about it, it would be ‘I identify as kin to elephants, or as an elephant animal-human person.’ in most cases.
Part of the reason the comparison is offensive is because everyone thinks this is a joke, so the people making comparisons are therefor making a mockery of trans. But this is not a joke for us. Who do we have to go to for support? Friends, family? No. A lot of the time we have no one. So is it so bad for us to network with each other and hope to help others outside understand where we’re coming from?
We didn’t just pick up the term otherkin because it looked cool and shiny. We happened to find a community of people with the same experiences as us and that community had a word for itself. Otherkin is a way of being, a state of existence, an experience. Not a life style choice, not a game we play. It is just how we are, how we happen to be. Human and non-human at once, inbetween.
