It's a shame that many of the girls invested in the Loki/ Prince Charming image are too young to see HR.

TH isn't listed but neither he was last year and this takes place mid-March so you never know.

761 Name: Whatsinaname : 2016-02-06 09:36 ID:u1vu1eqv

>>759 I was expecting the article to be more in depth about TNM. I didn't expect her comments about that royal flop 'Serena' to be as diplomatic.

>>758 The re-editing must have made an improvement. Fingers crossed.

>>760 Well, so much for the Letters Live mailing list! Not a word in my inbox about this. I looked on the ticket website and plenty are still available - but at about £80 a pop, or £130 for "premium" seats. Ow. If TH wants to talk about access to the arts that might be a starting point.

763 Name: Couch Potato : 2016-02-06 10:28 ID:Heaven

>>761 Doubtful that is the reason, this festival happens after the Oscar, the big contenders aren't even listed, in fact SPC is also bringing its other music biopic flop, Miles Ahead. I'm also doubtful if by March 6th TH will be done in Vietnam.

Speaking of TH schedule, a little reminder that tomorrow are the Evening Standard British Film Awards, for which he has a nomination as Best Actor (if memory serves).

Going by his PA's instagram, they were still in Oz this week, so if there's filming planned for Monday, I don't think he will fly all the way to London. On the other hand, they might take a week break before starting in Vietnam on the 18th, especially Brie since she has BAFTA next weekend.

769 Name: Couch Potato : 2016-02-06 10:49 ID:Heaven

>>767 not really, bu to be fair Miles Ahead received way better reviews than ISTL, the score at metacritic is on par with CP, around 66% while ISTL has a meagre 45%.

Brief review of the first episode of TNM by a writer who attended a private screening: http://akbenedict.com/the-night-manager/

tl;dr: It's very good, faithful to leCarré's writing, well acted. There was a Q&A with Hugh, Olivia, director Susanne Bier and others.

so he didn't make it to the short list, ouchy

778 Name: Anon : 2016-02-07 12:09 ID:bgcXLLLp

>>777 I feel for him, I really do. He picked three interesting and varied projects for 2014 and none of them quite came off. HR will presumably be eligible for BAFTA, Oscars etc this coming year though, due to the March release date.

It may be that ironically TNM and the BBC will make him a truly household name here and in the States - as tv shows did for so many over the last decade or so, eg John Hamm, Damian Lewis and earlier people like Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Laurie. It really is where so much creativity has been in recent years.

779 Name: Couch Potato : 2016-02-07 13:13 ID:Heaven

>>778 It's surprising that he didn't, HR is in the shortlist as best film but not a single actor/actress is, strange.

I don't expect HR to make it to the Oscar, after what happened this year the Academy will stay away from a film about classism full of white British dudes.

788 Name: Anon : 2016-02-08 17:14 ID:bgcXLLLp

>>787 11 March at the British Library. Ben Wheatley will be there as well as the producer and JG Ballard's daughter! Apparently the BL holds the Ballard archive, hence the screening there.

>>789 He still looks so spindly running into the sea! He really is a skinny ribs.

791 Name: Whatsinaname : 2016-02-08 21:50 ID:u1vu1eqv

>>790 MTE. I wonder what it's like to have metabolism that's so fast you have trouble keeping weight (muscle too) on over even short periods of time. Then again, maybe he didn't have the resources to weightlift during filming given all the places he had to travel.

792 Name: Anon : 2016-02-08 23:10 ID:bgcXLLLp

>>791 Torrilla has a pic of him with Roper's arm round him, taken from behind, and you can see his little skinny arms poking out of his t shirt. He has a little bicep on the front but no tricep at all. I never believed the story that he gained 20lb of muscle in 6 weeks to screen test for Thor. My personal trainer, who has a body like Chris Evans, doesn't gain that kind of muscle mass in a year, and he gains muscle mass easily.

793 Name: Whatsinaname : 2016-02-09 06:49 ID:u1vu1eqv

>>789 The vimeo has since been made private. It was a nice trailer though, while viewing lasted.

>>792 I'm going to say that he did appear to gain something for the Thor audition. It happened during the break between the 1st and 2nd seasons of Wallander, and the change in his body between the two seasons was visibly obvious. You can't tell if it was as much as 20 lbs, but his shoulders and chest were broader, and his butt/thighs larger.

It was not that Coriolanus level of noticeable bulk (or so it appeared - I didn't see the play in person).

794 Name: anonsy : 2016-02-09 07:46 ID:YO42PGlY

>>776 Here I am! :)

>>793 I'd say Coriolanus was the only time we've ever seen him really bulked up. Since he seems to be someone who has a hard time putting weight on, I've wondered what kind of fitness and diet regimen he must have been on for Coriolanus. He had to be eating a ton of protein and lifting for hours every day, or at least lifting really heavy.

(Happy birthday, Tom!)

795 Name: Anon : 2016-02-09 08:40 ID:bgcXLLLp

>>793 Here's a youku video from torrilla of the trailer: http://cheers-mrhiddleston.tumblr.com/post/138934592469/the-full-night-manager-trailer-via-torrilla-on

>>793 >>794 I do actually have a small anecdote about the Thor audition. A friend of mine worked with someone who knew him. The someone was married to Emma H's best friend. The someone attended a BBQ shortly before the audition. TH spent the whole party showing everyone his new muscles and saying "have I got bigger? Have I got bigger?" Apparently the biceps rivalled a sparrow's kneecap in size....bless.

I suppose before Coriolanus he wasn't working on set for ages so he had time to bulk up. Before TNM he lost a lot of weight for ISTL then had to gain it back in Jan-Feb for filming in March. Bit of a tall order especially for someone who is naturally skinny.

>>822 I guess if he's not been nominated and he is on the other side of the world it's a long trip back. Has filming finished in Oz? Maybe he will come home to the UK if he has a few weeks off, but there are a lot of island paradises on the way from Australia to Vietnam, and I know what I'd do faced with the choice! Bali with EO! (Just kidding - but Bali alone would still be amazing).

824 Name: Couch Potato : 2016-02-11 13:31 ID:Heaven

>>823 I read Brie was in LA the other day, but she has an Oscar campaign to run so it's a bit different.
I agree that it's a long trip considering he has no nomination and filming in Vietnam starts on the 18th for actors, but he also has 3 products to promote and BAFTA is his turf, so if he was asked to present an award he might use the little break for that.
Or to get a change of v-necked tshirt!

My husband located the Observer magazine interview and read it rather grumpily, pointing out that he has a double first in classics from Oxford ("a much better university than Cambridge") and is taller. His permitted celebrity crush is Rosie Huntingdon Whiteley who is so unlike me in every conceivable respect that I find it funny. The problem with my crush is that there are too many similarities!! Men are funny creatures.

It's funny how many of us on here are married, or about to be. Qaz is too, and Anon. is engaged. It's not the demographic I expected. A friend of mine went to the Nuffield q&a last year and said she was the only woman in her thirties more or less - all the rest were 20 year old emo/goth/geek girls - or grandmas! With one or two sad-looking spotty geek boys, each following a love object who was completely oblivious and thought the boy was just a cool really supportive friend who liked Marvel.

>>845 I guess I'm the outlier - I'm divorced. My ex husband also has a similar body as Tom, 3 inches shorter but the same build.
