Not sure Tom would have seen this project as beneath him except for Eddie R being part of it. Tom's talked about how he loved Aardman movies as a kid, and in the BTS shots he looks like he's having so much fun. And remember that Ralph Fiennes voiced the villain in the last Wallace & Gromit movie, so he's in good company.

And I suspect he's trying hard not to do anything that will make him look as if he's heavily self-promoting anymore. I believe we're not seeing sad or depressed Tom at this point, but Tom 2.0, the grown-up version.
