Because when I think of a person with a beard significant enough to warrant any kind of discussion about it, I certainly don't think of somebody who is eager to talk about it with others. I think of somebody who just doesn't want to deal with shaving every day and doesn't really care about other people's opinion of their beard. Perhaps it's a California thing.
