You keep bringing that up as if you're trying to say well it wasn't an original role like Pine was and therefore didn't deserve the award. It's been 12 years. That's not Ben recently winning. Again, that's like saying Tom shouldn't get accolades for playing Henry V and Coriolanus because well other actors have done those roles before him and gotten awards for it.
Golden Globes snubbed a lot of better performances last night for some mediocre ones and Tom's win was one of those. I don't think his win was well deserved and that's regardless of Golden Globes trend of awarding it to more glossier stars. Tom doesn't even fall into the category of being a glossy star in 2016, he was a big joke towards the end half of 2016. AMC simply locked down the votes for TNM and ensured their show picked up as many awards as it could muster. And yes, that does happen.

TBH I think he feels it is a bit of a storm in a teacup. He wasn't madly satirical and he actually said he kind of saw what Tom meant, only it came out all wrong.

Secondly, Jan Moir shouldn't be devising rescue plans for TH. Is there a PR equivalent of Task Force Blue/Seal Team 6? He's used up a lot of goodwill, with the GP and with his fellow celebs - some of the most scathing Tayto/speech tweets came from fellow actors/journalists. When did the goodwill go? There was the moment when his need for attention became thirst (think the De Niro impression in Oct. '15), then the constant singing and Southern accents while promoting, Tayto, his mother on a beach, blaming the public and their cameraphones for Tayto, the over the top behavior with fans to distract from Tayto, the cringey speech. It just has been the worst run of form.
I'm wondering if he can be rehabilitated.

I'm laughing at all the stans on Tumblr and the CB verandah club with their "sensible" talk, all bending over backwards to coddle and excuse Tom's speech. He also talked about how social media and the desire to be liked on it/get attention causes people to change their personalities and lives in pursuit of what is most likely to gain attention. In re homily, I think that TH isn't after millions of followers or likes on social media. Razzies noms were announced today. Neither TH or any of his films received nominations (didn't expect they would; they weren't that bad and neither was he)...and since Worst Showmance and Worst Performance as a Fake Boyfriend aren't categories, TH will need to wait for the BAFTAs for his next PR cock-up...I mean possible acceptance speech (and subsequent apology).
I can't remember what categories BAFTA has for tv, but I know that Paul Dano in War and Peace will give TH a run for his money. That kid's got acting chops and did very good work with what I thought was a mediocre script for W&P. Don't know about any others. Robbie Coltrane for National Treasure? I didn't see it myself but heard a lot of scuttlebutt about it.

The author goes in hard on TS and TH is really little more than a mere afterthought. I will say that she only scores half points on the criticism against TH. The speech was tone deaf though it didn't smack of white saviorism - not to me. Perhaps just saviorism in general.

On another level, this article made me realize that he will never be fully rid of her. I know some people - mostly those over in the veranda - talk about J. Gyllenhaal and how he's lived down their showmance. But he hasn't, not really. Every time TS gets a new bf, they trot out mentions of the old. Those pics of JG and TS get a new release, the pics with TS and his niece do as well. The same will probably be the case for TH. Talk about mortgaging yourself to the hilt.
