Okay, I've subjected myself to an entire episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I still don't get what all the fuss is about. I mean, yes, I suppose it is watchable by kiddie entertainment standards, and some of the less obvious punchlines managed to raise the corners of my mouth by a microangstrom or two, but what's with the hype?

Actually I wanted to comment on a clip of My Little Pony I was cruelly linked to by a so-called friend.

The art style is lazy and haphazard - completely unimpressive. From what I've seen, dialogue proceeds at a moderate pace, though anything of consequence to the plot is rarely said. Evidently there exists very little story at all, as the show relies entirely on per-character gimmicks to fill time. I mean, that's perfectly fine if you enjoy pointless small talk and modern pop-comedy (overuse of the word "awesome", for one). It leaves nothing to be discovered, though, and everything to be desired.

Each character interacts with one another in a manner typical of the same pop-comedy style which has somehow taken over most of the modern internet. That is, ``bromantic'' overtones and overreaction at the slightest subversion of an expected outcome. In short, it's tailored toward older audiences who practice ersatz homosexual relationships with their peers, usually from sexual repression or a burdening desire to find a social position in the world. Ironically, the very same attitudes capture children's attention so readily. This is because they are colorful and friendly, without being too deep or confusing.

But for grown adults to be glued to this there must be certain areas of consciousness missing; that which usually regulates the tolerance for redundancy, and another which copes with social complexity and the maturation of self. Really, there is no other reason for anyone above the age of fourteen to seriously enjoy a mediocre product of the advertisement era THAT much. It's sad.

Your first paragraph reminded me of the "Type B" classification of anime otaku as referenced in this 2010 post on Sankaku Complex (warning: while the article is quite work-safe, the site of a whole is usually not).
I guess with anime's continually growing popularity in the west, and the growing moe trend within the anime industry, it would make sense that western animation fans, too, adopt the attitudes of the Japanese audience responsible for said trend.

All my life I've been a technology bottom feeder. I've spent my slimy jawless existence many fathoms below the bleeding edge picking through the carcasses of other people's bad decisions. Usually what you find down here is long-dead, rotten in many ways. Lately though, something has changed. From cliffs high above the oceans are rife with fresh meat! Lemmings falling to their death!

Hipsters everywhere are selling off their old iPads in anticipation of the new ones! By buying a trendy toy, they never learned a thing about personal finance but let me tell you right now: they're about to get a lesson in economics! When supply outstrips demand, the price plummets into the depths! Right into my gaping maw!

Thank you! Thank you hipsters everywhere! With all luck, I'll have one just for my cat!

Well, I finished watching the remaining seasons of Family Guy. My conclusion is that the series has descended from a platform for edgy hit-or-miss jokes into just another mediocre cartoon.

As with earlier seasons, Family Guy has potential but almost invariably falls short. Take, for example, "Brian & Stewie", the climactic 150th episode. It's essentially a one act play of Seth MacFarlane talking to himself for an hour. It was a brave step into philosophical territory, and I wanted to like it. I hoped it would finally redeem the series. But in the end, Seth MacFarlane is no Samuel Beckett, and the episode fell short of the insight I longed for, in favor of TV-flavored pseudo-depth.

This is a good representation of the latter seasons in general. They try to provide what the earlier episodes lacked: focused storylines and greater character development. The amount of cutaway gags and side plots per episode decreases dramatically. Yet while this change has the potential to allow deeper character development and more interesting stories, the attempts fall firmly into mere mediocrity. For one thing, the characters simply lack the consistency to develop in any meaningful way, often changing their personality at the drop of a pin to suit the latest gag. And the plots themselves are insipid and predictable - typical TV trash. It often seems that the writers ran out of ideas and turned to formulaic television tropes. Take a formula story, pepper it with old jokes stolen from earlier seasons, and there you have a later-season Family Guy episode.

Now, that's not to say Family Guy is without moments of true humor. It even made me laugh a few times! But in general, the little merit there was to Family Guy is almost entirely absent from the latter episodes. By now I'm just relieved to be done with it.

So I was in my bathroom, peeing, when this doujin idea sprung into mind.

So, a loli and a shota switch bodies, like in that movie who's title I forget, and then the loli (inside the shota's body) needs to pee. Naturally, she doesn't know what to do, being in a boy's body, so she asks the shota to help. Long story short, she starts to get into it, gets an erection, and the boy decides to help her and they end up having sex while their bodies are swapped.

Does something like this already exist? Because now I really want to see it.

What's important in life? What's important to me? Do I want to live a happy or a meaningful life? I guess that it's just a matter of preference, but my rationalisations have made it impossible to pinpoint my exact desires. I guess that being able to percieve from different perspectives is a blessing and a curse; I have lost my sense of self. This freedom used to be something I longed for, but now it just leaves me directionless, floating. A human being isn't capable to create something out of nothing; our lives revolve around our environment and how we react upon it.

Maybe there is something I missed; is there really something as our subconscious? Is my true self hiding in the depths of my brain? Maybe I should try out creating a tulpa. I probably don't have what it takes to completely follow through with it. I'll just be floating.
