No, that wouldn't be very ladylike!

I'm going to answer >>931 as well, because I think it's a good question.

First of all, global warming is probably a misleading term. Although average global temperatures are increasing, the effects of the gulf stream slowing down or sea level rise or things like that can have the opposite effect locally. Hence why people often call it "climate change" rather than "global warming".

One of the important things to realise is that the climate is a chaotic system. Chaotic systems require two things:

  1. Feedback
  2. Non-linearity

Changes in the climate definitely involve feedback; the weather on one day will affect the weather on the next day, and so on. Climate is also non-linear, as clouds, storms and rainfall all generally either form abundantly or not at all. That is to say, a small change will not necessarily have a small effect. Once you pass a certain threshold in terms of temperature or humidity, a given type of cloud will be able to form, and will probably form in large numbers.

The scary thing about chaotic systems is that they can be incredibly sensitive to change. Consider this diagram:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Chaos_Sensitive_Dependence.svg
Both the black and white balls follow the exact same rules, yet a tiny change in initial position leads to a huge change later on. This has a number of applications to climate change:

  1. It's very difficult to predict, or simulate. Slight inaccuracies in meteorological data can render the entire simulation wrong.
  2. It's very difficult to link cause and effect. This means that people can easily wriggle out of taking responsibility, or try to make the science into a matter of politics.

Expanding on that last point, I've frankly never understood climate change sceptics, or what have you. Whilst the data is, naturally, highly variable, the underlying principles of, for instance, atmospheric carbon dioxide affecting heat absorption, are incredibly transparent.

What this all really means though, >>931, is that the climate's pretty well fucked.

I like to prop my head up pretty high when I sleep, so I like a large and firm cushion for a head pillow. For my back though, I prefer bright and fluffy like a sun-speckled lagoon of childhood dreams in which I can dive and lose myself in the sunny shadows shining through the cracks.

Well, I played EVE Online a bit. It was something original and even some menial tasks like mining were fun at first, but then it seems that if you don't belong to some huge forum, you aren't going to get far. Far outside high security sectors. Eventually it will be too tedious and hardly rewarding and fun at all. It would be like going to work where you pay 15$ every month instead of getting paid.

Have you ever tried drawing with a tablet? How do I draw even such a basic thing as sketches and line art? Please teach me!

964 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-7223 20:30

>>963
I've never used a tablet, but I've done some sketching with pencil and paper. Furthermore, I've never really had any serious tuition at all, which makes me probably not a very good teacher. The meagre advice I can offer you:

  • Take your time. Draw slowly and carefully, and keep redoing it until you're completely happy with it.
  • I can't stress this enough: have a very clear mental image of what you're going to draw before you start drawing. This makes a huge difference.
  • The internet is full of specialised guides on drawing; make use of them. Especially with drawing living beings, proportion can be difficult to get right, and the guides can be especially useful for that sort of thing.

If you want some advice from people who actually know what they're talking about, try somewhere like ttp://tohno-chan.com/cr/res/412.html.

What is your opinion on the Double Dealing Character demo?

I thoroughly enjoyed it! The storyline is promising, the characters are cute and novel, and the gameplay is a huge improvement on Ten Desires. The danmaku is very straightforward and not too gimmicky, but it's still only the first three stages. The scoring mechanism is very good; it's intuitive, rewards taking risks, and doesn't cause problems for colourblind people (I'm looking at you, UFO). I'm waiting warmly for the full release.

I was in a robotics club in elementary school, using those LEGO robotics things and going to competitions and such. I was a master builder, but never bothered much with the programming.
In high school, I was in an after-school art program, doing ceramics and photography. It wasn't really a club, but I wasn't in any clubs in high school, so that's the closest thing to a club I had.

>>967
Have you ever done any ceramics? If so, do you prefer wheel-throwing or hand-building? Electric wheel or kick-wheel? Is this too many questions?

967 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-7243 17:55

>>966
I've done a little ceramics, though it's been a while. I definitely prefer hand-building, mostly due to aesthetic preferences. Both methods are nice, but it really depends on the look you're going for. I don't have much experience with the wheel, and I've never used a kick one, so I can't really comment on that. Basically the more hands-on/traditional the methods, the more I tend to enjoy the work.

Write down tasks that are specific. Instead of "internet bill," write "call internet company support to ask about bill." Instead of writing "study for test" write "read pages 10-20 of DQN Textbook and complete 5 example problems." Instead of "clean room" write "-pick up books -put papers in file -vacuum" and do one at a time.

Don't try to assign tasks to specific times unless they need to be. I tried this and it failed miserably. Trust in your own ability to complete things at your leisure. Give yourself little rewards for completing tasks. Positive reinforcement is much easier than trying to force yourself to do or not do things.

The hardest part of a todo list is inertia. It easy to keep completing tasks once you get started, but getting started can be very difficult. Instead of vaguely thinking "I should get started on my todo list" focus on a specific physical action like closing your computer and standing up to get a glass of water, from which point you might find you have much more willingness to get started.

How many true friends do you have?

I hang out with a group of seven people, and we're all pretty close. Out of that, I only have two true friends though.

I don't like pirating anime or games, and then I feel bad for thinking like this since so many people do it anyway. Is this stupid? What are your thoughts?

That's not stupid at all; I'm much the same. I just recently started reading Tsukihime, and the English patch has a long disclaimer saying you must agree to use this only with official copies, not with pirated versions, that left a lump in my throat. Pirating anime is somewhat justifiable as the anime companies don't really expect any significant sales outside of Japan anyway. Pirating games really does fuck over companies a lot though, especially the smaller ones.

If you could have any single superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

I'd like to say the power to add or remove any superpowers at will but I think that breaks the "single superpower" rule. It would be cool to have the matter-altering powers of Dr.Manhattan from Watchmen. I'd use it to make anime figurines and other stupid objects.

Spoilers follow; don't read if you've any intention of actually playing the game (and you should, it's good).

It's filled with rocks and soil. She's going to use it as a blackjack in order to beat another girl to death. The murder weapon can then be disassembled, and seeing as she's just a frail little girl with no known motive, she (hopefully) gets away with it.

Spoilers end here.

What is the most unusual plant or animal you have encountered near where you live?

Probably mukade. Google image search with caution. I've seen other miscellaneous weird bugs, but I have no idea what they're called or how to look them up.

>>989
What fruit or vegetable would you choose for a fruit/vegetable battle to the death?

Conditions: It should be considered to be of the average variety, so you can't say "the biggest pumpkin in the world". You can also prepare the fruit/vegetable however you like beforehand, but you can't combine it with other things. And you can only choose one, no sacks of potatoes.

I'd probably choose a melon. Even if it cracks before opponent's skull or ribs do, it seeds could make the ground slippery.

>>989
How would you counter a weapon-grade melon?

Masturbating most likely. Or threatening to jump out of a skyscraper, just to get free counselling and waste mortals' time.

I recently played Dust: An Elysian Tail and liked it a lot. Albeit it felt rather easy on normal difficulty. Should I restart it on harder or hardest difficulty or continue as it is?

995 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-7248 21:54

By continue as it is do you mean just play it again on normal? Nah try it on a harder difficulty.
