Dancing and contributing solid original content to internet communities are two vastly different things. Sure, you'll look silly yet still have fun if you dance without knowing the first thing about it. It's not a collective act where the utility of each patron is dependent on every other patron. Yet in a community which values progress, wit, thoughtfulness or otherwise, the focus will always be on new content. This drives the culture and decidedly changes it for better or worse. This is why newbies are frowned upon for their uninformed carelessness.
