One of the brilliant things about the 1970s/80s adaptations was that they were unafraid of doing "nothing" from a plot perspective and using vignettes to build character. They drew them all so brilliantly that by episode 2 you feel like you have known them for ages. Also Ian Richardson as Bill Haydon. That man invented the meaning of the words heart eyes. He was utterly gorgeous.
