Somebody had to restart this thread. I hope it's okay if I do it.
You aren't mad at me, are you?
Ahiru from Princess Tutu. She's so kind, so beautiful, and so silly and childish that I just want to protect her. I think waifuism can be a lovely thing if you find that reality doesn't have what you want. But like any relationship, taking it too far is unhealthy.
Do you tan easily, or are you more likely to burn?
>>252
Well now! I read way too many webcomics, so I couldn't really choose.
>>254
What are your opinions of the comics listed above?
>>253
Three Word Phrase: Good
Gunshow: Mixed, but tends to be fun
NonCanon: ??? I must read this!
Dinosaur Comics: It's something I read every day, I maybe laugh once a week :(
SMBC: Pretty good. I really like the videos.
A Software World: Mixed. I sometimes really like it.
>>253
Recommend a few webcomics that aren't on that list, wouldn't you? Can you tell us why they're worth reading, too?
>>254 I like Dueling Analogs webcomics because they make fun of many video games, and they have a "rejected Megaman robot master" comic on occasion.
>>256 I would like to know your favorite humorous cheat code in any video game.
>>259
I took the first internet quiz I found on google for "what do you look like" and got this:
http://www.youthink.com/quiz_images/quiz300outcome3.jpg
The sad thing is the picture's not too far off, though my face is a little rounder. A while back I did a thing where you upload your face and get it matched to a celebrity. I got Cary Grant - I'd like to believe I'm that handsome but honestly it's pretty far off.
>>261
What kind of look do you find attractive?
>>267 oops yes I realised my mistake after I posted
>>268 Yes, always. I have a rule in my life that if I feel I'm going to do something and it might be dumb and I may regret it. do it really quickly before I have time to have second thoughts. I'm looking forward to seeing your thread!
>>270 What was special about your most impressive poop ever, one that you were proudest of?
>>269
Its shape and smoothness. Somehow I managed to curl it into a perfect circle on the near-horizontal part of the toilet bowl. I regret not having had access to a camera at the time, because the shape put me in mind of those zen calligraphy pictures adorning the walls of some Japanese restaurants I've visited, that consist of a freehand-drawn circle in a single brushstroke. I wish I remember what I'd eaten to make my poop that smooth. OK, I guess it's time to stop gushing and start asking a question.
>>271
Where would I be now if I had not decided to study Japanese all those years ago?
>gushing
delicious choice of phrase
Hmmm i'd need to know where you were all those years ago, you might be in the same place, or you might have used the time you spent learning Japanese on another language and be in that country, or on some other skill and you might be somewhere now using that skill, maybe even getting paid for it!
Well, >>272, what's your favourite food? It may seem like an unimaginative question but I'm genuinely interested.
>>272
Currently it's Michael Schmidt-Salomon, mainly because he is the only philosopher whose work I have not only read excerpts from. He posits the intriguing view that morality is completely unnecessary, provided decisions about right and wrong can be made on the basis of ethics.
>>274
How can I avoid running out of patience when tidying up a very messy room? As it stands, I tend to get fed up and stop working after less than five minutes of sorting things into piles.
>>273 get yourself a timer. set it to five minutes; you are obligated to clean up as hard as you can during those five minutes, and obligated to stop when it stops ticking. When you get used to five, work your way up. If the mess is extreme, you can stop at about 15 minutes a day. Eventually, you will find that you have made solid progress and maybe even don't need to keep cleaning, circumstances depending (this time does not include other chores like vacuuming, dishwashing, dusting, etc.).
Unless you're like me and live with a packrat and an enabler and everything you clean out gets filled in with more crap.
>>275
What kinds of cheese would you recommend?
>>274
I really like Brie. It's creamy and buttery, and it goes with anything.
I made the mistake of substituting Parmesan with Cheddar in a carbonara yesterday. Didn't really work and it's not something I recommend. I might actually try using Brie, though.
>>276
What was the last thing you cooked, and how was it?
>>274 http://images.mysupermarket.co.uk/ProductsDetailed/22/074422.jpg I used to work in the factory as a cheese packer then as a quality inspector, it's very good
>>276 Have you ever fancied being the opposite sex?
>>275
The strawberry syrup from the recipe on the FoodWishes blog (whose URL is blacklisted on 4-ch for some reason). Quite pleasant, though far too sweet at the soda dilution ratios the recipe suggests. I would recommend 1 part syrup to at least 5 parts water.
>>276
A few times. When I was around five years old, I envied the greater range of clothing cuts available to girls (they get to wear skirts and trousers, and we only get the latter! Blatant sexism, I say!), and when I entered puberty, I learned that girls could have multiple orgasms and was envious once again. Also, girls looked better in long hair than I could pull off, and seemed to have much softer skin than me. That seemed like nice attributes to have. Then when I got a girlfriend, she told me about her excruciating period pains, and my envy subsided rather quickly.
>>277
Will there ever be a Kantian-style Enlightenment movement in Muslim nations? If so, what will the results look like?
>>277
I don't know about Kantian-style. The various populaces (in uprising or no) don't seem very clear that they want that, which is what it would really take for me to consider it a "movement". Their diverse home-grown attempts at any sort of philosophical rule includes lots of basket-case isms like Qutbism, Baathism, and Jamahirya. Even the few that found some modicum of success in democratic-ish ventures during the 20th century aren't looking too healthy at the moment, while at the same time a lot of these non-benevolent dictatorships have a huge shitstorm on their hands, even if they aren't in actual danger of losing power.
But I'm no expert, what the fuck do I know.
>>279
Well, what about head cheese?
>>279
If it's a girl, I'm sorely tempted to go with Reimu, at least as a middle name because my wife would insist on a more common first name.
If it's a boy, I've always been partial to Eric. That would probably also be relegated to middle name, though, because my wife and I are planning to give any children we have completely androgynous first names. Haven't decided on any specific first names yet, though.
>>281
How long would a strictly secularist world government last if it were somehow established within the next year?
Woo! Free question!
>>284
Do you think there is a future for the Euro? If so, what needs to change in order for it to happen?
>>283 No. For a common currency area to work, people need to be able to pack up and move to another part of the area without much difficulty - which is difficult when its constituent states have different languages and cultures. The states need to be politically stable and represented equally to some degree so its citizens don't resent the federal government. The economies of each state in the area should have about the same composition or wealth so monetary policy never has to exacerbate problems in one economy while helping in another. Also, its constituent states need to be willing to make unconditional sacrifices for other states in need, or at least be reasonable about their demands.
>>285 How do I find weed dealers in my area?
>>286
It seems improbable. The US public grows a bit less religious with every passing generation. Short of wholesale demographic changes involving the rapid displacement of the native population by imported groups who are vastly more religious (cough Eurabia cough Sharia law cough) it seems unlikely.
>>288
Doesn't this sort of talk make you feel hopeless?
>>289
I believe that people must take responsibility for the results of their actions. I also believe that Kant doesn't get enough respect today when we speak of ethics. I believe that you must become the change you want to see in the world. By this I mean that you are obligated to practice the virtues you wish to see become more common. If you want to live in a world in which people speak the truth, this obliges you to be truthful and forthright in all your dealings with others, for example.
>>291
What's the last thing you saw on /dqn/ that you found really amusing?
>>290
http://4-ch.net/dqn/kareha.pl/1326488419/l50 post #74, 75
>>292
What's a pre-1990 computer game that you heartily recommend?
>>293
I started out with Ultima Online back in 2001/02, got bored of it only two years later though. I never played any MMO on its official servers since, but I did play some WoW on a free private server (back when Burning Crusade was the most recent expansion, way before <Lv.20 characters became free to play) with increased drop and XP rates. The main reason I stopped playing was getting back into university after two years of NEET status. I have not played any other MMOs before or since that, though I've watched my brother play Everquest 2, Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes and a handful of others whose titles I've forgotten. He doesn't seem to stick to one game for very long and prefers to just use up the free trial periods, never to return. His EQ2 and SWG accounts were slightly more long-lived, though.
>>295
Since >>293 only answered one of >>292's questions, would you mind picking up the slack? Does or will [the official shiptoasting thread] bring about a noticeable change in quality in other /dqn/ threads, and if so, are these changes positive or negative?
>>294
The only noticeable change I've seen is people complaining about it in other threads. The actual shitposters either don't realize or don't care that their posts are shit. The only purpose that thread serves is an outlet for people to make ironically bad posts.
Anyway, I think it's fruitless to try to dictate the content people post on the internet. Some forums try to do so with heavy moderation, it's elitist quality! But it never works too well in practice. The best thing to do is ignore the bad posts and bump quality threads with quality posts of your own.
>>296
What's your favorite internet community (either currently or in your past internet history)?
>>296 Kinda both, for a long time it was mainly to talk to my girlfriend (long distance relationship) but now she's moved in with me, she's deleted her facebook. A couple of my good friends have deleted theirs as well, so there's not much else I use it for. My partner in my own small business has moved to another city so we keep in touch about work on it, and a facebook group is kinda the main base of operations for a Miku hologram concert team I'm part of (I play bass). I have over 500 friends on it, real people that I know and like irl, but every day I realise how little I care for what most of them have to say, and usually a casual glance at the main stream just annoys me.
>>298 How do you feel about image macros becoming mainstream, and generally just being called "memes" by regular people whether they actually are what we'd call "memes" or not?
>>300
I buy a large apartment in Fukuoka as well as a medium-sized business, whose administration I leave completely to the previous owners. I then live in Japan long enough to become a naturalized citizen, gradually accumulating legal recordings of every anime I ever pirated, as well as licensed copies of every pirated game I own. Eventually I will buy a second home either in or near Akihabara, Tokyo. Both my homes will be decorated with all sorts of otaku paraphernalia and each contain a big-screen TV with satellite subscription, separate dedicated gaming rigs for eroge and danmaku shooters, and be hooked up to fibre-optic internet of the fastest available speed. I will fund large-scale campaigns raising awareness and petitioning the movie, music and game industry for an end to region-coding and similar restrictive measures, as well as calling on the Tokyo governor (should Ishihara or a similar person still occupy that office) to end his otaku-bashing and manga censorship. I will spend any remaining funds not needed for living expenses and upkeep on donations to ailing anime studios and impoverished mangaka whose work I have enjoyed. Yes, I am a huge anime nerd who feels guilty about all the torrenting.
>>302
What continuing behavior of yours do you feel guilty about?
>>302
Sure. Our nature's really just a combination of our memories, our awareness, and our conditioning. If you're strong enough to recondition yourself, pay more attention to things, lost your memories, or made many more memories, I wouldn't be surprised if you changed some... what exactly do you mean by nature, though? It's too hard of a term to define, I think. If we judge a person through their actions, maybe only their actions have to change.
>>304
What was the last VN you played?
>>305
Either the DQN archives aren't quite complete or I'm missing something, since I couldn't find a few threads I definitely remember making. Instead here's the earliest one I could find that still exists:
http://archives.4-ch.net/dqn/kareha.pl/1152402779/
...let's just say it's not my proudest moment in thread-making history.
>>307
What's your proudest moment in thread-making history?
>>308
That isn't a question! Anyway, I got http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stress_(Neo-Psychedelic_band), which led me to wonder what on Earth "neo-psychedelic" means.
>>310
What is the largest animal you have ever killed, directly or indirectly?
>>309 A carnivorous flat fish (don't remember the precise species), which I hooked with a fishing rod and pulled out of the giant tank at a Japanese restaurant, for the kitchen to turn into still-twitching sashimi for me. It tasted rather more watery than I had expected.
>>311
Among the food you have eaten so far, which ingredient (or instant food) that you remember had been the longest past its expiration date by the time you ate the meal? How much time had passed since its expiration date, and did you suffer any ill effects?
>>314
Drinking enough water to not pass out from all the sweating, and tidying my room as long as I remain capable of movement. I also need to learn vocab and write two short essays on set topics.
>>316
How do you deal with high air temperature and humidity when your home has neither air conditioning nor even an electric fan?
>>315
Air flow - open windows (doors if necessary) and find where you can get the air moving. For example. if you open windows on opposite sides of the room you can get a good wind going between them. Hang out where it's coolest.
Really you should just buy an electric fan, they really aren't that expensive and they can really help the air flow especially when combined with open windows.
Besides that, wear light clothes, eat cold foods, take cold showers, get a haircut, put ice on the back of your neck, lose weight. Turn off electronics that generate heat. Don't stay in your house - go out for a swim, hang out at a library with AC, whatever.
>>317
What's your favorite album of 2012 so far?
>>319
Looking at the timestamps, I see that all of them posted within a five-minute time span. Even DQN does not usually get this many posts per minute. Heatwaves seem to be a popular topic in general around this time of year, affecting people in lots of different places.
>>321
Will the world ever decide on a universal mains voltage, and if so, will Christians see this as another sign of impending Armageddon?
>>325
No, because the heat is too localized. You end up getting drowsy and possibly sweaty, which might make you catch a cold if you don't also have central heating. Still, I wouldn't mind owning one.
>>327
Would you prefer living in a big city, a small to medium town, or a tiny village? Why did you choose that answer?
>>328
Subjectively speaking, freezing winters are better. I hate heat. It's often impossible to beat the heat, but with cold I can dress up in warm clothes. Heat just makes me feel miserable and irritated, and not a fun person to be around. It also makes any form of exercise give me a splitting headache.
Objectively speaking though, winters are probably more dangerous to humanity - life tends to flourish more toward the equator.
>>330
What should I make with pepperoni (besides pizza)?
>>329
You could slice it up, and have it with some biscuits. Throw in some cheese or vegetables (cucumber, tomato, possibly herbs).
>331
Should I get drunk today?
>>333
If you could permanently delete any one thread, such that it never comes back, which one would it be?
