You could always just not talk about it. In general, I can't help but feel we're starting to talk about our own lives too much (I'm somewhat guilty of this as well).

To be honest, I have a strange respect for people who bring up their marriages or relationships in a non-obnoxious manner. I'm a shut-in NEET, but I'm happy to be among real grown-ups.

>>259 Oh, I don't talk about it, and I agree there is a lot of blog posts, hopefully that blog thread will soak up some of them, but I can't help no longer feeling an affinity to the DQN archetype, vague though the chap may be. Maybe other things affect other things>

262 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6877 22:22

No, this isn't allowed. I'm always the one who can accomodate every eventuality; I'm not allowed to be overwhelmed. Of course I get tired, but I don't just get tired of life. What am I supposed to say or think? "It's just too much?" Of course it fucking isn't, how could it be. I don't need naps. I don't need rest. Even my "relaxing" hobbies aren't really relaxing, and that's just exactly how it should be. I'm not going to post this. My beloved, I won't fail you. But to attempt it in this state - we remember what happened the time before last. I cannot put myself through that again. I'm not going to post this. My love, I cannot even see you. Where are you? Where are you? No, I cannot sleep. I can throw off most of my obligations for tonight but this one still stands. I don't even have the patterns, besides something vague involving cogwheels and flowers. I have no idea what the sleeves are to be like. The hat - likewise, no idea. Perhaps just the original? The straw hat inspired one? I'm going to fucking end up posting this, aren't I. Oh, but the wings. If I can make this work then it will all be worth it. It will all be worth it. My guardian atop my bed, how could my subconscious defy me then? I swear I'm not actually insane. I shouldn't post this. Is one picture ever enough? Oh, my poor head. Poor me. Please have some pity.

I cannot conclude this at all.

There was a time in the US, back in the late 1990s, when a now nearly-defunct dialup Internet service provider called "America Online" shipped free setup CDs out as junk mail to every address they could find on the continent.

People found novel uses for the CDs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uADnSZszD-s

My favorite, which I can no longer find online, was a solar cooker that focused sunlight using the shiny sides of several hundred old AOL CDs and could be used to fry sausages, melt metal for recycling, fire pottery, or inscribe one's initials on the surface of the Moon. It was less of a "solar cooker" and more of a "death ray," come to think of it.

They were arranged in such a fashion so that the shiny sides reflected light to focus it on a specific point in space. There is a word for this:

With enough CDs you could become a supervillain and threaten to burn satellites out of orbit, or write graffiti on the Moon.

My friend read all the scripts to Red Dwarf before he ever botehred watching a single episode. He was terribly disappointed by the low production values of the show and choice of actors portraying the roles. So basically, he enjoyed reading the series rather than actually watching it.

It got me thinking. So much of anime is just dead air: people walking down a street, staring out a window, people locked in battle, opening and closing credits, and other wastes of time. If a series were deconstructed back into story boards, an episode might take five minutes or less to read instead of watching it for a half hour.

Let's be honest. I think a lot of us are only watching this stuff to be remain part of "the culture" anyway. Why not free up our valuable time for more depressing things? Never mind, I just figured it out.

But the whole point of Red Dwarf (and where most of its humour derived from) was the characters interacting with each other. And Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, etc. did a great job at that. Hell, the good casting choices couldn't be more obvious with Holly. When Norman Lovett quit and Hattie Hayridge took over with the same lines intended for him, Holly lost his charm.

Your friend is stupid and he should just read books.

320 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6880 12:04

Star Wars could be cut down to ten minutes, easily. We don't meet Luke until about ten minutes in which is dumb. Then there's all the meeting people and character interaction, a.k.a. boring filler. What should happen:

  1. Luke finds droids.
  2. Jump cut to Millennium Falcon in space.
  3. Jump cut to Luke getting in his X-Wing (include Han, but cut most of the dialogue).
  4. Condensed Death Star sequence. Nobody cares about "Biggs Darklighter" or "Garven Dreis". Luke just blows up the Death Star.
  5. They all get medals. No need to show them walking up (if I wanted to watch people walking, I'd go outside).
  6. Credits roll. They're longer than the film.

321 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6880 13:08

Let's be honest here, most works of fiction, books, movies, or anime, could all have their plots heavily condensed. If you are getting bored of all the padding you should probably take a break from consuming media of that type.

I wonder how many people who constantly bitch that pop music these days sucks ass compared to the 1980s understand the reasons behind that. Mainly, '80s music only seems generally superior because the only songs from that time that get airplay today are all members of the tiny subset that has withstood the test of time and remains popular over 22 years after it came out.

I came to this realization about video games a while ago. A lot of people seem to judge games in terms of other games and then reason along the lines of "This is not like my FAVORITE GAME in aspect X, so it's a CRAPPY GAME." e.g. "bad controls" sometimes actually means "you have to be willing to get used to how it controls before you can enjoy it, because it's a bit different from <popular game that is similar, superficially or otherwise>."

On principle I never post in shitty threads (hence why I'm responding in this thread) but I absolutely must agree with you. I don't come here to read about other people's everyday lives, nor do I particularly feel the need to tell everyone about mine. I think that, somewhat like the shitposting thread, people just post in it because it's there. It doesn't actually reduce the number of blog/shit posts in other threads because they wouldn't have been prompted to post it otherwise.

Instead, of course, the newbies get the idea that this is what they're supposed to be posting, and DQN comes one step closer to 4chan. Nonetheless, I'm well aware that this post probably won't solve a damned thing. The best solution is, of course, to make a significant number of good posts in order to offset the shitty ones.
