Causation is nothing but repeated correlation, coupled with the mind's tendency to infer general truths from particular instances. When many uniform instances appear and the same event is always followed by a distinct previous event, our mind comes to expect the later event to occur after observing the previous. This feeling of connection between two events, conditioned through repeated correlation, is what we call causation.
