well i'm the OP and i'll name a few things i noticed from watching 2 or 3 videos of them on youtube. i know pink floyd a lot better.
- big emphasis on theatrical performances. show looks like a theatre production.
- ``sounds like nothing else'' (at the time). innovative instrumentation
electronic-rock fusion
- lasers
- very serious looking guys who make silly music
- leftist political messages
- racial harmony part of the political message, manifested through music influenced by black genres (pink floyd influenced by blues, KLF influenced by hiphop) (not taking a stance on this, it's just something i noticed)
- being too british
- kind of highbrow
- tons of lore
- dramatic hiatuses
- expensive stunts (klf setting pounds on fire, pink floyd crashing fake planes into the stage)
and that's just off the top of my head, i'm sure there's more similarities
i don't think either of them are terrible bands but i was just thinking oh should i listen to the KLF, and i decided against it because the music ain't all that much to my taste and i really do not care to learn ``the lore''. the aggressively masculine fans are a big turn off. i still like pink floyd but i'm casual about it
