I don't think dqn has ever tried really hard to imitate 2channel. Here are the first 8 threads on News4VIP right now:
1: Things that make you're grateful for when you have a cold
2: Your face is disgusting, but your personality...is disgusting too wwww
3: Animal forest general chat
4: Some Koreans came to my high school yesterday
5: The scariest thing about the manga "Kindaichi Case Files"
6: I bought a motorcycle
7: Somebody tried to molest me but I molested them
8: I've lost all my self-respect

If you'd rather have more of these kinds of threads, take the plunge and make them! I see DQN as a place to chill out and post whatever you want. It's elitist quality. Trends come and go here - character threads, creative collaboration (like the song threads or short nove), forum games, whatever.

For the second and third books in the trilogy, I agree. Neuromancer was great, methinks, and the latter two were just godawful elaborations of unnecessary proportion.

Women just have the same rights as men (almost). I hate men who sleep around, so now I apply that same standard to women. It has nothing to do with gender or feminism, but everything to do with society in general.

Basically, you should become a misanthropist instead of a misogynist.

941 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-7015 22:55

Modern women suck. They're all entitlement whores. Feminism teaches them that they can have all the rights and no responsibilities, and they've all become vicious, spoiled little shits.

Was it a joke? I mean, how does going on a date with two twin sisters even work. Does it go like, only you and one of the twins are interested in each other, and the other twin is just along for the ride for fun? Sounds like it went really well.

Just me, actually. I guess it was more hanging out, but we did date things and dressed as if it were a date.

At the end, the younger twin grabbed me and gave me a biiiig smooch in front of her sister. I thought it was kind of funny. Both girls are very sweet, honest, nice girls. They come from a conservative home and are very close. Their mom set a curfew of 7PM so we only had 3 hours together, but we all had a fantastic time.

like dxm but hate the taste? here's a guide to a friday night party drink that'll send you to the moon.

  • 5oz delsym
  • some orange juice
  • 2 bottles of robopillz
  • 1/2 shot of gin
  • 20oz 7up
  • an empty bottle
  • paper towel
  • a strainer
  • a fork
  • a knife

pour the
pour some 7up into a glass and enjoy a sip. fill up about a cup, you'll need the bottle a bit empty while you work. fill another glass with cold water and drop in a bottle of pills. let it sit for about twenty minutes. while you wait, shake the bottle of pop up to get out all of the bubbles. now once you're done waiting, take your soggy pills out, stick 'em on the paper towel, and poke a hole in the seam. quickly drop the pill into your soda bottle. every 5 pills or so, screw on the lid and shake the bottle a bunch. once you're done, shake hard again. using a strainer, pour your drugged 7up into yet another glass. push a fork hard against your little gelcaps just to get out as much drugs as you can. congrats, your first robodrink is done. you can pour your drink back into your 7up bottle. chug it fast!

now fill your empty bottle with your delsym. pour some water into the little syrup bottle and add that to your new bottle too. now pour in orange juice slowly. shake a lot and your second drink will be done. drink this one now and you'll have about a gram of dxm in you, which should be a very high third or fourth plateau trip. the mixing of dxm poli and hbr makes for a complex yet pleasant trip, while the work you went through makes it all much more pleasant and less likely to induce vomiting.

Some notes: I had a dream that a business partner and I bought a building in San Francisco that was formerly a cult compound. The real estate agent explained that the cult members were not allowed to talk to one another. Evidently the cult had such a weak basis that discussing it even once would make the whole thing fall apart... and it did.

I was also going to try to explain that Espeon was jackin' it to Ichigo Mashimaro porn, but it was way too much work and that shit is boring even in summary...

Also, post count +1!

686 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6999 15:11

Once Espeonoshi and he had left their work detail twenty minutes early to get a head start on all the others on the Great Day and managed to get a spot so close to the Holy Pillar that they might actually lay eyes on Him should he appear. They saw Espeon, the Son of God, as he truly must be: clean-shaven, wearing brilliant robes, voice booming over the masses gathered below Him. In acts of ultimate sacrifice, two monks near them slashed their throats the second He appeared before them and lay dying at their feet though the glory before Espeonoshi and he was so distracting they did not notice.
Espeon himself so rarely led the proceedings that they had not seen him since they were children and then only as a very distant speck, smaller than an ant they were so far away. They didnft know what to expect and couldnft think above the screaming of the masses. Normally it would be the issuing of extended dour prayers by priests followed by a reading of the annual production report, but this was going to prove much different. Espeon asked all to join along with him in a gsong", a word that caused much confusion among the masses and they all looked to one another for an answer.
gSing with me!" Espeon demanded, and he made a strange noise boom along with his voice.
That wonderful prayer, that wonderful work of art, as beautiful as any marble sculpture of Espeon, the Son of God, was still with him to this day and it warmed him just to think of it. He bit his tongue so as not to accidentally utter a single note of it out loud: gHe was a sk8r boi, she said see ya later boi. He wasn't good enough for her. She had a pretty face but her head was up in space..."

685 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6999 15:10

When he had been taken away, Espeonoshi said he had first found his place in the monastic order in the rather comfortable job of cleaning a palace in the Great City. He spoke of wonders there such as pieces of glass that displayed scenes from around the world, but mostly men running and kicking a ball. He spent his time between the hourly prayers required of the monastic orders scrubbing floors and polishing furniture, never laying eyes on the master of this house until one day, by accident, he opened a door he had been told to never open and there he saw, he claimed anyway, Espeon, the Son of God. He sat before a panel of glass like the others in the house, though this one he made move by his will and a small device attached to it by a wire. According to Espeonoshi, this glass panel had on it the image of a nude goddess from a perfect world where eyes were large, noses and mouths small, and where no one grows old. While it would seem fitting that Espeon, the Son of God, Praise be Unto Him would wish to peer into the world from which he came from time to time, Espeonoshi suggested that the Son of God more than pined for it: he was masturbating to this image of godly perfection.
Espeonito tried very hard not to believe it but Espeonoshi had never lied before. Why wouldnft Espeon just summon this goddess to him? Or he could have any woman in all the land, for they were his property after all. Then again, no mortal was the equal of a young goddess. Perhaps no goddess was willing to visit such an impure land lacking in faith. Espeonitofs faith was shaken by mere rumor, it seemed. Asking a priest for clarification would only send him to the very same harsh orders where Espeonoshi had eaten nothing but boiled buckwheat for seven months and spent his days cutting firewood in deep snow. Espeonito was left to stew in his thoughts, trying his best to think of better times when his faith had been unshaken...

684 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6999 15:08

Espeonoshi half-whispered and half-shouted: "Espeonito! Come on! Talk to me!"
gNot now!" Espeonito whispered back, and muttered beneath his breath, gPraisebeunhim." He hadnft slept well after midnight prayers and now saw the wisdom in restricting idle talk to only fifteen minutes following dinner...
The door lock slid open and everyone audibly froze. Coughs were stifled, blankets tightened around necks, and the masturbation stopped, the offender loudly flopping onto his side. Everyone in the bunks surrounding him cringed; it was obvious that he had been caught and it took no time for the priests to find him. He was carried away screaming for reform in the monastery, to the great relief of his neighbors.
Espeonito hoped this reminder would quiet Espeonoshi, but it had no such effect.
gIfm telling you, I saw him up close, Espeonito! I could have reached out and touched him!"
gYoufd be struck dead", Espeonito yawned the reminder, and again added gPraisebeuntohim" for good measure. He tried to sleep but it was not easy given all Espeonoshi had said of late even though it was most certainly a lie placed in his mind by the devils that Espeon, the Son of God ate alive...

683 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6999 15:07

At three in the morning, the sirens sounded and the faithful fell from their bunks in the frigid cold for the first of the dayfs many prayers. Predictably, the priests walked through two minutes into the proceedings to ferret out anyone lacking sufficient faith. Their attention could be drawn by anyone attempting to hide from the cold, imperfectly mumbling their prayers, or not wailing loud enough when it was time. Any small failing in the all-important act of prayer was sure to bring misfortune when dealing with Espeon, the Son of God, Praise be Unto Him.
Three minutes in and the priests had left satisfied, the door locked behind them, and at five minutes all but the most faithful had climbed back into their beds. The lights were switched off, and praise was replaced by wet coughs, snoring, and annoyingly for Espeonito, the sound of masturbation from the bunk below his and urgings, despite the rules against it, to talk from the bunk above. Espeonoshi was up there, fresh from monastic orders. It had been a kind and merciful attempt to steer him back to perfect faith that cost him five kilograms in body weight to the monkfs diet, a tooth to rot, and two toes to frostbite. Despite all the mercy shown him, he seemed ready to return with this outrageous behavior: talking to the fellow faithful outside the allotted time...

I hate that feature. Maybe it's because it's too flashy and doesn't fit in with the rest of the GUI. I dislike most of the Web Developer features for the same reason (3D view, design view, etc.). They should be in an extension, not in the default browser. And they should use the system GUI elements, not their own ones just because they can use HTML/CSS. You might as well make the menus and form elements light-blue on dark-grey too.

Use different browser (Chrome? Opera?) for porn. Don't keep the links on your desktop or quick launch, because somebody might want to launch their favourite browser or simply click on a colourful icon.

>>620
Sometimes you have to rely on web history to get to some neat pages. You wouldn't want to have porn sites on your mind, would you?

The best thing is a personal desktop where you can even set tabs to reopen (I think it's "restore previous session" in FF). The downside is that you might get stuck on the same explicit material and feel like your life stuck in a loop. Mine did.

Thoughts?

Yeah. People these days are impatient and undiscerning. They watch a three minute video filled with poorly research facts, feel like their minds are blown and praise themselves for having such wonderful skills of critical thought after mindlessly agreeing with the subject matter of the media they just consumed. It's not much better than watching the news on TV.

I do most of my reading with paper/electronic ebooks. The rest consists in here and various articles. Social media is trash.

594 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6993 23:49

We are living in the age of the overpopulated internet. The information we receive is mostly useless. The brilliance of twitter is that it limits such trash to 140 symbols per "serving". So does tumblr and other popular online services.

However, this also makes users attached to scrolling through the trash generated by many various people because these messages differ from each other in style, in topic, etc.

This in turn makes people less capable of thoughtful reading. They can't keep their attention throughout a long article. They would rather believe a short list of "facts" if it has one or two links to some lengthy paper. Even if original research actually contradict those points, no one is going to check.

What's the point in continuing? Everyone leaves, they never care and I'm supposed to stay here and live for whom? I've already given up on myself. So all that's left are 2 or 3 people and I hate them. I don't have a life. I don't. I am a ghost. I don't speak, I don't interact, I don't need to do anything. I'm never in control. And even if I was I would break down, it's all the same. It's 9AM and all I can think is that I want to get as drunk as possible. A show must have an audience to please, must it not? Our lives are little shows we put on, and NEVER let the audience see the backstage. That way they'll think you're perfect. That way they'll never try to make their own show. But I did, and all that mess is breaking me apart, in a way I never expected. How can we all live in a world where nothing is really itself? Our whole society is based on the lives of these people who have the most perfect masks, who don't exist beyond that. They never take them off. Maybe they don't exist (organic portals?)? But if they don't I am alone, and very very lost. And I suppose I am anyway... I still don't know why I should live. Death seems more and more attractive.

I'll take your suggestion. There's only one way to find out if I enjoy "low-level" programming, I guess. I'll study C and Perl in parallel. Perl is neat for what it was intended for--powerful, batch scripting. This includes serving up Web pages, which works great because Perl clearly pays a lot of attention to playing with text (regular expressions, lists, and so on).

It is a little ugly to look at sometimes, but it's a shame how it's dying out as newer, hipper languages crop up.

To get the only thing >>405 didn't cover, Perl's far from useless, a ton of stuff was and still is written in it. But in the past fifteen years or so it's lost a lot of popularity to other languages like PHP, Python, and Ruby. This is partially just a matter of fashion, partially some legitimate grievances with Perl (the big one being that Perl is perceived as extremely syntax heavy--that is, where Perl has a special form/operator to do something, many other languages would have a function in the standard library).
After you've learned one programming languages, others are generally pretty easy. Happy hacking!

If you can figure out what x = x + 1 might do, then The C Programming Language should be easy enough for you to understand. It's very clearly written and straightforward (there's a reason no other C books have overtaken it), but it isn't particularly fun unless you enjoy relatively ``low-level'' programming.
Frankly, you really don't need a lot of mathematics knowledge to be a programmer. You might have to know certain things for certain tasks (e.g. geometry and vectors for graphics and games programming) but you can safely get away with basic algebra, arithmetic, and an understanding of what particular algorithms do (even if you're cloudy on exactly how they do it).

On a suggestion from a dinosaur aged post on /code/, actually. I wouldn't say it's been a useless endeavor. I learned a lot about programming, had a blast, and I'm learning new, useful applications for my personal use every day. Even if it's old and I don't use it for any serious projects, I at least get some benefit. And there's always this CPAN that everyone is talking about. By the way, it's the first programming language that I've studied seriously. Is perl useless compared to other languages or something?

Is there anything else you might suggest? I've made a few other ventures into the world of programming. They did not end without some blood. Learn Python the Hard Way was boring and I felt like it didn't give any good explanation of the material. Think Python: How to Think Like a Computer Scientist, another python book, went over my head, mostly because I haven't completed a high school level math course (oh god, the most daunting thing on my to do list). I hear a lot of people suggest C, but I get the feeling I would get bored and give up on that. I'm interested in learning more about programming and hopefully having some fun along the way.

Learning Perl is a great book and has helped me a lot with learning. One gripe, though, at least for the 6th edition. The chapter that covers filehandles includes no exercises that require the use of filehandles. A few chapters on, the very last in the series of chapters of regex, they expect you to have retained everything from the filehandle chapter.

Oh well, it's my fault for being a dumb ass and not paying attention.

I am liking the show as an objectively good show (bearing in mind that it's essentially a cartoon largely aimed at young girls, of course\it is refreshing to see that a show can be described this way that isn't also utterly vapid, and were I raising a daughter I would not be uncomfortable letting her watch this show so far). However, it isn't the life-changing experience that the Internet promised it would be. Subjectively, it doesn't even come close to being my favorite, because there isn't any personal meaning in it for me, and I don't really relate to any one of the characters that much.

As something of an art and media junkie though, yeah, I enjoy it. In my gloooorious, self-vaunted estimation, it isn't part of the sea of shit that Sturgeon denoted. The animation is competent rather than mind-blowing (TV show budget is like that), but it is noticeably strong on the Appeal principle. I didn't notice any flaw in the composition or framing, so while I am not a good judge of that I'd say it was a good job. I think the music could use a little work\but whatever, it's nice that they have songs once in a while (science says music is for kids' development, y'know?).

I don't know that anyone on God's beautiful Earth is rightfully hated for being a fan of something innocuous[1], though I do not deny that a good deal of fans are annoying about it in the same way that some fans can be and have been annoying about anything (considering I used to be an active participant in the Sonic and furry fandoms, I think I would know...). Bad people can be found in any tribe.

I see myself as less "fandom", more "fan", so I don't know whether to consider a brony a fan or a fandom fan for this evaluation; I'd rather sidestep that question and leave my answer thus.

[1] I'm leaving fandoms for patently disgusting things out of this picture, of course. Not really everybody agrees on what patently disgusting things are, is why. But I don't see how anyone in industrialized society besides a true jerk would find this show patently disgusting (I'm completely certain you can find that sort of jerk on Tumblr, though!).

My vote goes for admitting you won't do yourself any good. That way you can justify it to yourself, rather than having made some sort of attempt and feeling bad about it. Like when someone asks you to do an accent you can't do: it's better to say, "Sorry, I can't do it," than do it poorly (perhaps on purpose) and feel sad that you'll never be able to accurately imitate that accent.

I think the Compose key should become a standard. As far as I'm aware, Windows doesn't even support it.

I'm fine with the double hyphen approximation in the same way I'm fine with "this", 'this', `this' or ``this''. People also use symbols where they make no semantic sense: > for quotes, * for bullet points, and so on. The fact that ASCII is largely obsolete hasn't made people any less lazy.

This thought is dedicated to you, <a href="http://4-ch.net/dqn/kareha.pl/1331675820/640">Mr. >>640 of another thread</a>.

Let the double hyphen approximation die. It's ugly, unless automatically replaced (e.g. in MS Word).

People have to be taught about the importance of Alt+0151 and Alt+0150 (the em dash and the en dash). IMHO, the en dash should be used for transition to the em dash, because it's both just a bit longer than the hyphen, and round numbers are easier to remember for most people.

What the world actually needs is a typographic layout with all less commonly used symbols accessible via AltGr+ combinations (with labels printed on the keyboard).

I call for a special aa/dqn layout with SJIS symbols placed in a comfortable Dvorak-like style.

It's somewhat comforting to know that she does some of the same avoiding and lying crap with him too though. I wonder how much of her bad social skills come from her mental illness and how much of it she can help.

The thought process leading to me naming it "Emergency code violet" went roughly as follows:

I'm tired and miserable and very wet and I need cake.
I should post about this on DQN, perhaps somehow involving an emergency code.
But what sort of code?
Ones based on colour are a bit over done (red alert, etc.)
If I were being cryptic, what would I name them after?
I know, the English translations of the first characters of the names of the bosses in Perfect Cherry Blossom, in order of appearance.
And the final boss of the final final stage is Yukari, which, of course, means violet.

> something that bestows instant pleasure

I see sex more as a way of connecting with someone on a rather deep level. And I never said that sex improves one's quality of life, but that being disgusted by human bodies (while owning one) might stop people from enjoying life fully, as would, say, an eating disorder, or an inferiority complex, or any persistent "negative" thoughts and feelings.

90 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6953 22:28

>>87

>enjoying life fully

That's subjective and I rather dislike you for thinking something that bestows instant pleasure must necessarily improve one's quality of life.

Because it stops them from enjoying life fully, in a way. It's a bit like thinking that sex is dirty and shameful: you get people who deny themselves something perfectly natural and become rather unsatisfied as a result, or give in to their urges only to become guilt-ridden over something that's pretty awesome and amazing if done right. Or people who embrace the dirtiness and become self-destructively promiscuous.

Though a lot of the sadness is probably because I'm worried that I'll eventually get a significant other who thinks that human bodies are disgusting, and I won't be able to convince them otherwise because it's not exactly something you can discuss. I imagine such a relationship would feel somewhat like having a closeted boyfriend who doesn't entirely accept himself and thinks that his sexuality is unimportant.

Somebody linked me to a website selling dakimakura, and on the frame to the left, there was one of my waifu - but with her name spelled wrong. I've long considered getting a dakimakura of her, but most of them either have crappy artwork or are too lewd, or, as in this case, both.

The train dream is one from years ago; a dream I had, of which all I can remember is a very vivid image of a steam train going through a narrow valley, with trees on one side and a steep patch of dirt on the other. Occasionally that image just comes to me for no obvious reason.

You know when you leave something to download while you sleep, and Windows decides it's time to install some updates and reboots itself in the middle of the night, then when you wake up all excited about the thing that is surely finished downloading now and your hopes are crushed when you are greeted with a desktop with no open applications and you already know what has happened and just hope the download got pretty far before the reboot, and when you check it hasn't gotten past 10%?
