I've always thought hiragana/katakana are a seriously underappreciated source of new mathematical symbols. They're all visually unique, easy to memorise, quick to write, and have unique, monosyllabic pronunciations. Honestly though, I'm surprised that next to nobody has taken a step out of the Latin/Greek comfort zone, given how badly overloaded every symbol already is. The only example of using another alphabet I can think of is aleph numbers.
