I have three guesses: they use flecktarn-painted uniform made in the same style as US army fatigues, they adopted this acronym from English for "uniform", they made a similar abbreviation but it has to do with the Bundeswehr.

All in all, Germans love composite words and abbreviations, I mean, who else in the world calls a lorry "LKW"?

I assume that >>84 is either German or visiting Germany.
