Illness is never fun, but I have been enjoying my bizarre and vivid fever dreams. My personal favourite was the one where a huge white butterfly (some sort of Pieridae?) appeared out of nowhere and tried to climb into my left eye. It got caught on my glasses, and I was trying to reason with it, saying "No, butterfly, my eye is not a good place for you to be. There is nothing you want in my eye." But gosh darn, that was one determined butterfly. In the end, I managed to take my glasses off very slowly, with the butterfly still perched on the lens. I don't really remember what happened after that.

I hate it when people have laptops with loud keyboards. The kind that taps every fucking keystroke so loud you can make out each one individually from across the library and you can tell how many lines the typer has written because they really bang on the Enter key. I think a part of it is also that these people contribute to the noise by banging on the tapitty keys with their fingers. I really fucking hate it, it is irritating.

If you type like this in a library, I hate you. Yes, you, reading this right now. Asshole.

I want to start freelance writing instead of the freelance 3D work I do now. Not because I like writing, but more that I want a lighter laptop for working, and writing doesn't require a lot of horsepower.

It's as though everyone was told to come to a certain place at a certain time, so they turn up, and then nothing happens. Everyone is just standing around awkwardly or muttering nervously to one another. Eventually people start getting hungry, or tired, or really need the toilet, so they leave; at the same time, more and more people keep trickling in, and they always ask the people who were there before them what's going on and why they're there, without getting any meaningful answer.

Yes, that's what life is like.

>>267 with writing, working for content mills is a good way to start out. Most of them pay shit or have asshole editors who will wring you out over a misplaced comma or on subjective stylistic points. Some of them have both. But it's a good way to make quick money and get practice.

Starting a blog and putting up examples of your writing can also be a good idea. You can try to attract clients or make money through pay-per-click ad setups like Google Adsense. The only problem with those deals is that you have to get like 100,000 hits to make anywhere near a decent amount. I see people getting all excited over getting a $30 check from Google for the month. I can't even pay my electric bill with that. The fact is there are plenty of shekels to be had in online writing, but they take a lot of work to get your hands on. If you have a strong handle on SEO, though, it could work out for you.

If you're looking at writing for magazines, I don't know anything about that. It probably helps to have a really strong online presence first.

I think a couple of his short stories (and 1Q84) have female protagonists, but yeah, I know what you mean. Anyway, which of his books are you reading? A Wild Sheep Chase and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World are my favourites.

306 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-7727 18:43

>>305 I read A Wild Sheep Chase and liked it. I started The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles but haven't gotten back to it because it's a bit much to follow along with all the studying I have to do. Right now I'm reading some of his short stories in a collection called The Elephant Vanishes. All good stuff.

I think I connect better with Murakami's work because I see some of myself in his protagonists. That probably isn't such a great thing.
