I hate it when people have laptops with loud keyboards. The kind that taps every fucking keystroke so loud you can make out each one individually from across the library and you can tell how many lines the typer has written because they really bang on the Enter key. I think a part of it is also that these people contribute to the noise by banging on the tapitty keys with their fingers. I really fucking hate it, it is irritating.

Starting a blog and putting up examples of your writing can also be a good idea. You can try to attract clients or make money through pay-per-click ad setups like Google Adsense. The only problem with those deals is that you have to get like 100,000 hits to make anywhere near a decent amount. I see people getting all excited over getting a $30 check from Google for the month. I can't even pay my electric bill with that. The fact is there are plenty of shekels to be had in online writing, but they take a lot of work to get your hands on. If you have a strong handle on SEO, though, it could work out for you.

If you're looking at writing for magazines, I don't know anything about that. It probably helps to have a really strong online presence first.

While Murakami's always maintained that fame is something he's not striving for I think he's embraced it quite readily.
1Q84 was one of the more mass-market books he's produced: surreal enough to entice but not enough to alienate, and with enough Western influence to appeal to his fans.

I don't think he's 'sold out'; rather, I think he's changing his style, pointing his intense emotional gaze outwards rather than inwards.

However Tsukuru Tazaki is just plain crap, and I'm disappointed in him.
