Thread to talk about the actor Tom Hiddleston

751 Name: Anon. : 2016-03-24 02:24 ID:w8yKQSSS

>>750 Yeah. I'm side-eyeing them both - biggie tyme. It's on twitter as "EO and TH laugh off those pesky romance rumors.' Oh, you silly, gossipy internet people - you are so ridiculous. We're friends. I mean, you can think what you want, but we're laughing them off.'

This is exactly what they did at TIFF.

I understand that she's not going to cop to making a five-hour plane journey for a booty call (laser tag included!). I understand that he's not going to cop to using his TNM wall sex scene as a practice round for kitchen door sex later in the year with his FWB. But don't assume that our memories are that short.

And TH's laugh in that interview is exactly like the one he gives Roper in TNM!

752 Name: Anon. : 2016-03-24 02:28 ID:w8yKQSSS

The final few paragraphs describe the 'semi-madness' TH descended into in order to grab himself some OSCAH (Michael K trademark).

He probably didn't nail it, Rodney just wanted to let people go home.

This interview makes me think TH may be missing a screw or two. He's still using words like 'genius' when speaking about MA and this movie. Christ.

At the very end EO talks about TH being at 'the finishing up of Marvel land.' She may just be talking twaddle, but maybe she's in the know and Thor III is the end for TH.

Also, the clips from this interview make me realize that I'm going to have to get reaaaallllll drunk to see it.

>>753 I wonder about him sometimes. Is he trying to talk up the movie to get people to see it? Does he view his projects through rose-colored glasses? Is he in denial? Does he just have poor judgment?

Scarlet Witch will be in Infinty War, so EO very well may already know that Loki isn't involved. I'd personally be glad to see Tom out of the Marvel universe, so hopefully Thor 3 will be the end for him.

Here's a cheeky little amuse-bouche about TNM: http://www.tatler.com/news/articles/march-2016/on-set-of-the-night-manager-exclusive

>>753 >>754 I think a bit of both. He is loyal to his projects and does the publicity with apparent enjoyment - which I find commendable as I hate those actors who get sulky, or can't wait to distance themselves from something that's had bad reviews.

I think the screw is loose about this particular project. Going all method, losing all that weight, falling in lurve with his Audrey (!!). I do believe he hoped for an Oscar from day 1 on set and I don't think he has let that go. He must be thinking "But I suffered! I didn't eat and you know how I love cake! I can't sing and I inflicted it on others! I must get an Oscar. Mummy, I want one!"

>>748 In addition to calling MA a genius, he is calling EO a great actor.

The interview question about dating was whatever is the exact opposite of "going for the jugular". "Exactly how stupid were those poxy dating rumours that your people planted with the gullible tabloid press?" If EO is still riding the Hiddleconda she better be very sure the relationship is going nowhere because they are going to look very silly when they announce their engagement and forthcoming birth of baby Hank.

Totally agree about TH's nervous titter! We need a side-eyes emoji.

Oh joy!! Another terrible DM article!

"It is difficult to decipher which of these is heart throb Tom Hiddleston and whic is country singer Hank Williams. Making it all the more difficult is that Hiddleston is mostly renowned these days for not wearing many clothes, thanks to his role in racy BBC drama The Night Manager."

With obligatory "steal fans' detective work and still get it wrong" detail!

He's going to be on Colbert on Monday - did we know this? First slot, apparently.

>>761 Crap. We can only hope someone in the audience has a tranquilizer gun in case he starts to go hyper.

Hopefully, they won't talk about: yodeling, Bond, his naked bottom, possibly breaking up a co-star's engagement, British politics or Eton. Although I think they may poke fun at his bottom again. It does seem the obvious topic of late.

People may be sympathetic toward TH or MA - hell, maybe even EO - but I'm thinking of TH's father. All that money for his education, and his son finds himself: with a stylist, in a relationship that has to skitter past scandal to grow serious, and becoming increasingly known for getting his kit off on film. Does Eton do partial refunds?

763 Name: Anon. : 2016-03-24 12:44 ID:Ep2jQcLc

>>755 oh, it is totally rachet, but I love it, maybe even lurve it! Michael K is my gossip blog hero. His THEO posts were comment heaven. I remember one saying TH's hairline was the stuff nightmares were made of and that EO looked so old in her Morticia Adams dress that she was following in her sisters' footsteps and heading for 'Trollsen territory.'

http://www.etonline.com/news/185200_elizabeth_olsen_dismisses_tom_hiddleston_dating_rumors_opens_up_about_sisters_career_advice/

She's right - we are strangers talking about something we don't really know about. And all we can do is speculate based on what's thrown into the public arena. But as Anon said >>757, the first rumors - in a quasi-legitimate magazine which she'd previously used as a mouthpiece - seemed to come from a camp.

Lizzie, I think we were asked to "really care" about your relationship - for whatever reasons. And now, we're being asked to not care - and being belittled for caring in the first place.

Yeah, me no like.

766 Name: Anon : 2016-03-24 14:01 ID:JylagXHm

>>765 She hasn't said the speculation is untrue I notice!

But yeah, I am starting to really dislike her and her "mind your own business, losers" approach to this. They (she?) fed the beast twice (maybe three times f you count the "it's over" article) and as I have said a bazillion times before, if you want to have fun and be discreet in London it is easy to do so. A lot of famous people live here and they rarely get papped.

OT: I also dislike her "I'm not one of those fancy intellectuals, me" schtick. Not reading books is fine - I know a lot of lawyers who go home and watch the X Factor and seem to engage in no intellectual pursuits at all. Nobody's calling them thick. But don't vent your insecurity by seeking to belittle those who do read the odd book.

Today show:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us0l6pjDbp4&feature=youtu.be
The look on their faces at 2.05 sums it all up. They even had to edit that ramble.

I've obviously seen too many interviews; it's all spewing out in a scripted repetitive format lacking all spontaneity. I can't stand it when people crack the same joke word for word more than once, especially when the first time was lacklustre.

>>762 Can I add impressions to the banned list? And rambling. And ten gallon hats.

I would like to see a semblance of originality/ personality again in his interviews; that's what has been lacking of late. It's possible to be yourself without transforming into Tom Cruise on Oprah. Come on, show us a spark Hiddles!

This is an interesting one. I linked it above with the comment that it said it was 'official' but seemed to just be his groomer taking some BTS shots.

Now, she's said on the page that they are planning to cover the promo tour with this IG account. Is this TH's sneaky way of adding another social media feather to his cap...but not really.

She also said that the tour's six weeks long! Where the hell is he going? I guess it's going to be a mix of TNM and ISTL, perhaps some US High-Rise thrown in...but six weeks?

771 Name: Anon : 2016-03-24 16:35 ID:VhNAEDLk

>>770 "The official Instagram for the adventures of Tom Hiddleston and his team as we cross this crazy world" - yes I think you are right. She wouldn't be doing her own social media featuring him without his agreement - for example Olly doesn't tend to post pics of TH.

Also, 6 weeks??? Poor bastard. And poor us. We will be totally sick of the ISTL anecdotes (to the extent we aren't already).

772 Name: Anon. : 2016-03-24 16:37 ID:pRPMH27i

>>766 Well, no, because they already tried that...and it didn't work.

I think hypocrisy tends to hit most people in the gut - hard. And that's what this is: Look, notice, be interested...few months pass....no, we don't want you to look, notice, be interested. Ugh, addressing these silly rumors is so tiring for us...why did we ever start them!

It's an utterly unlikable quality.

>>767 Their faces do say it all!! He's just one of those people who cannot self-edit. It's charming sometimes - annoying others.

How ridiculous was it that in a 3-minute interview, a whole minute was taken up with a clip that runs through his IMBd page. Are they assuming so few people know about him?

>>768 It's morning telly - the target audience is people getting ready for work (and not paying attention), bored housewives after they've made the school run and...nope, that's it. And, it doesn't even have Eamonn Holmes to spice it up!

I popped over to CB to see what clickbait they made of the latest (non)denials. Nothing very exciting (she thinks EO is lying and I don't think she is terribly impressed), but I did see a link to this delightful illustration of Just How Bad that Dress Was:

>>765>>766 I don't like how she goes overboard with her "denial" and starts bashing the fans and gossip readers instead. They made it our business by first leaking it on US Weekly otherwise no one was thinking about THEO. Then the tabloids continued. And now they're acting like it's all other ppl's fault for being nosey and not theirs for starting it and continuing it. If you want to keep things on the downlow then don't tell the tabloids about it. Tom wasn't so anti fan in his supposed denial but EO goes really does overact in her denials and dismissals. Pap night included. You asked us to care and when the cheating came up and the movie flopped, now it's all our fault. If they are in a relationship, it really makes no sense to hide it like this. But if all they're doing is hooking up whenever the mood strikes well then they can't exactly come out and say we're just fucking because I don't think that'll jive well with the squeaky clean images both are trying to project in the public. Lol instead they'll blame the same people who they were targeting to carry their tabloid rumor and make them talk of the town.

>>774 That dress was all sorts of wardrobe malfunction in the hi def pics. You could not only see thru the dress but thru the bra as well and clearly make out the shape and size and color of nips and bits. If you catch my drift. Innocent or for someone or something's benefit who knows.

>>768 Yes, the Today pill, I mean Show, is a tranquilizer for unsuspecting humans. It sucks. I recorded it but really it's gotten to where I dread his press tour interviews for all the reason you've all written out above, no need to repeat. Sycophant is not a good look on you, TH. Surely he can find something original to say about ISTL and country music besides what he keeps repeating.

1) The movie is shit and I made a mistake.
2) I'm banging EO on the down low. What of it?

782 Name: NewAnon : 2016-03-24 21:26 ID:Xfxv9xZA

I might be in the minority but after seeing the ISTL premiere's live footage, I don't think TH and EO are even banging anymore. However much they were getting it on, I think it died down after Hawaii. But that's just me, I could be wrong.

783 Name: Anon : 2016-03-24 22:59 ID:qAvx5iXW

>>782 EO hates you for caring. LOL.

I didn't watch the footage so I don't know. It can present a totally different impression from still pictures. But whatever your view, that's cool. The best thing about being around here is that there is no party line. Having read lots of vitriolic CB threads and crazy tumblr exchanges I can't say often enough how important that is. FWIW I am pretty sure anonsy agrees with you!

Anyhow it will be interesting to see how this pans out once they aren't spending a lot of time together publicising the movie, or filming on the same continent. Or (if you're cynical) once they have no project to shill with some dodgy relationship-related clickbait. She has certainly painted herself into a corner with her comments over the last few days - as Anon. said, nobody likes a hypocrite. Or a liar. How do they either use the relationship for publicity, or even admit its existence, now?

>>781 Yes! Maybe one day in his memoirs.
>>782>>783 I can't decide. I've had FWB relationships that went 6 months between sex...and once it was that far apart I was like 'meh' and ended it. Maybe it was a shorter interval with them?

>>781 I don't put all my faith in Rotten Tomatoes (Con Air - only 54%!), but it's a fairly accurate measure of movies. ISTL is now at 19%. Gods of Egypt is at 13%. This movie is only 6% better than Gods of Egypt. And yet, he's out there like a true company man, spreading the gospel. It must be so hard for him to let the dream die.

And, I think he's coming your way with it, Anon. I think he may well push the corpse out in the UK!!

Whatever they had, whether they still have it - we're not meant to care, and we're not meant to talk about it. Otherwise, EO will send her sisters after us; they'll suck out our souls and use them to construct awful clothes.

That having been said, I wouldn't be surprised if they rock up together again. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're never in the same room again.

There was a screening tonight. Wrenn Schmidt is wearing Self-Portrait. I actually have this dress - I like their stuff a lot. I think girl paid for this dress herself - it wasn't lent to her, it wasn't a freebie. And she probably styled herself. WS is all of us!

TH seems to be going for old-school British gent: double-breasted waistcoat, tie clip, pocket square...where's the pocket watch? I'll give it a thumbs-up.

>>785 anon hifive and if we're wrong it's okay we'll just do shots everytime EO hides her face behind her bag and wails out for Tom.

>>788 is that how EO ended up with her seemingly eternal curse of bag clothes? Don't make the twins mad! >>789 There weren't too many pics of Wrenn from the Nashville premiere so I'm glad to see she's getting the spotlight at the NY premiere. She looks really cute!

794 Name: Anon : 2016-03-25 08:59 ID:qAvx5iXW

>>791 Yeah, I give it to her for this look. It's great. The waistcoat is what I'd call a very traditional old-fashioned English, Savile Row style. Love to know who it's by.

Not sending a fruit basket just yet! Torrilla's pics of the Today suit show that it as shiny and didn't fit over his new muscle manboobs. Also that he was wearing a shiny satin tie. My dad used to wear those in the 70s and it was not a good look then.

Some have said he smells citrussy. If that's right my guess is something simple and easily available (shopping issues!) like Jo Malone lime basil mandarin.

OT: The most loved men's cologne ever is Creed Aventus. A friend from work wears it and women ask him all the time what it is. I have seen strangers ask him in the street. I bought my hubs a bottle (he never wears it!) and one time I wore it on a whim for a night out. When I got into the cab the taxi driver said "God, you smell beautiful" and started hitting on me! (This never happens). I have wondered if TH wears it given that everyone says he smells amazing. I ah e decided not as someone would have just jumped him by now. The combination of him and Creed would be too much!

I thought he wore Farenheit by Dior. It was during while he was shooting CP and meeting fans and someone asked and his assistant on set mentioned it was Farenheit. I've sniffed it once when I was in Sephora and it was a very clean crisp scent. Even if you put on too much, it doesn't overpower.

After a bit of googling around, I found this tumblr post:
http://witheyeslikestars.tumblr.com/post/69871494041/

Summary: the two scents people usually mention Tom possibly wearing are Farenheit by Dior and Armani Code. The above tumblr poster met Tom, smelled both colognes at a later date, and settled on the Armani. But - a lot of people do change his scent depending on the event or season, so it's very possible he uses both.

One of us is going to have to find him and smell him. For science.

  1. 'Would SW and Loki be FWBs or more FBs?"
  2. 'If SW and Loki were to join forces professionally, could that collaboration bled into a more personal relationship?'
  3. 'Would SW fly to Hawaii just to play laser tag with Loki, or would something else need to be on offer?'
  4. 'Is Loki the sort of villain who'd break up an engagement?'

And they call themselves journalists! To paraphrase Sir Winston: Give me a press pass, and I'll do the job.'

>>794 Maybe part of being a 'top stylist' is knowing how fabric 'shows' on different mediums. It was a shuper shiny shuit in pics - but didn't look it on the tv interviews he did that day.

Also, maybe he just really wanted to emphasize his man-boobs!

OT: Aventus was worn (I asked about 2 minutes after meeting him!) by a dashing middle-aged man I knew at the Foreign Office. Our teams would have mtgs together two times a month - and I so looked forward to them! He always smelled of pineapples and moss and MAN! Heart-eyes.

But who are all the other people in the team? I still want to know what they contribute. God, it must be expensive being an up and coming movie star to drag around all those people.

I think of Dylan Moran on Jonathan Ross - donkeys ago. JR asked him if someone helped him with his style. DM - who looked like he usually does - a mess! - said, something along the lines of 'This look doesn't just happen. This represents the work of a small team of Italian craftsmen.'

Oh, yeah, they's iz pushing this. Screening in Chicago with Q/A after with MA and TH. He's also done radio interviews today. And he and WS will be at an Apple store - I think in Midtown, although there are about a dozen in Midtown - to do a Q/A.

Maybe Anonon - who I think may be our resident showbiz expert - can shed some light on whether this is still standard fair for promo. Or maybe Whatsinaname, who also seems to be in-the-know.

Maybe SPC is pushing so hard because they want to earn their money back - not for awards.

>>820 Yep, SPC are giving it a fair-ish chance. Aint-it-cool-news has always had a lot of pull with the geek crowd. Comic book movies, action movies, horror movies, sci-fi movies, remakes of comic book, action, horror, and sci-fi movies - you get the idea. (Just go to the link in >>820 and look at the topics on the right sidebar.) Harry, the geek guy who runs it, gets into advanced screenings all the time. His positive reviews about an early cut of a movie really matter to the movie producers. So they'll get him to announce these free ticket event promos for many movie openings.

But this genre? A biopic about a long-dead country singer? This is different and worth noting. I'm guessing they were approached by SPC in case any Marvel fans might be interested in seeing Loki and Scarlet Witch to drum up positive vibes wherever they can. Aint-it-cool-news was always independent, so I'd be surprised to learn that he'd signed a contract with SPC or some middleman/arm of Sony's PR dept. to promote their movies no matter what the movie was.

>>820 I can shed no light on PR or promo, I'm in the biz on set only (and some pre- production) in the trade that is supposed to make faces match necks and hands.
I agree with >>830 that they aren't sweeping this under the rug. Given that the official reason for delaying the release was TH's availability for promotion, he has to promote the shit out of this to legitimise the delay.
They are certainly not shying away from questions relating to marvel/ marvel fantasy hookups, or for that matter questions relating to their own hookup, both of which are guaranteed clickbait and completely off topic.

http://www.bustle.com/articles/149937-elizabeth-olsen-reveals-the-perils-of-fame-how-she-transformed-into-the-woman-behind-hank
This article confuses me.
Aren't Bustle responsible for all the annoying gushing pro TH fluff that have occasionally been mistaken for journalism? I always wondered if they were backed by his PR. Now they're going to his press conferences and conducting hotel room interviews?
'when I bring up her IMPECCABLE FASHION SENSE (my olive green sweater is embarrassingly uncool compared to her V-neck cut-out dress and large statement necklace)'.
Ha! The low cut V- neck with side boob straddled by King Kong's fingernail was true!

>>832 All I know about Bustle is from an article about its slightly controversial startup. It does have a staff of permanent writers/editors, but no editor-in-chief. Also, a number of its contributions come from freelance 'authors' - think, underpaid interns. These 'authors' are the ones who tend to write the laughable (TH) articles. Some are little more than a series of tumblr gifs with captions. I would imagine, therefore, that this is a permanent writer who has enough pull to get a quick sit-down with EO. Bustle does get a lot of hits and has established itself as a 'feminist' online mag, so getting a quick sit-down wouldn't be too hard.

Yeah there's nothing spectacular or sizzle worthy chemistry when you watch the video. It's below the usual cuddles and flirting and hugging TH normally does with his costars. That's why I figured whatever they had is gone. OR if Anon's theory is right then the less physical interaction Tom has with a female, the more likely it is that he's banging her! Or maybe he's just scared that if he squeezes her in a hug the twins will pop out of her dress. By twins I mean her sisters. Not the other set of twins that are already winking at us.

>>838 I feel like his behavior here falls somewhere in the middle of his usual red carpet spectrum - not as comfortable as when he's with Jessica Chastain or Tilda Swinton, but a little more friendly/familiar than the ladies from High Rise, for example. Even the Nashville premiere was within his usual interactions - I think the reason it seemed so over the top was because of the stiff awkwardness we saw at TIFF.

840 Name: NewAnon : 2016-03-26 05:06 ID:Xfxv9xZA

>>839 Most likely. Though I will go on record and say I did side eye EO at Nashville because she seemed to be copying Chastain from the CP premiere. I'm definitely guilty of over analyzing because I did compare the LA premiere to the NY one and to me TH appeared more warm and friendly with Wrenn than he did with EO.

841 Name: anonsy : 2016-03-26 05:27 ID:V6C+Feoq

>>840 I wonder how much all the gossip affects their interactions. It has to at least cross their minds that their behavior is going to be analyzed. I think that was part of the reason they seemed so awkward at TIFF - it was the first time they were publicly together since Pursegate, and they had obviously decided to put forth a "we are not dating" vibe, regardless of what their relationship actually was. So yes, I agree that he did seem more comfortable with Wrenn, but they don't have "careful where you put your hands, people think we're together" running through their heads.

842 Name: NewAnon : 2016-03-26 05:39 ID:Xfxv9xZA

>>841 I'm sure it's on their mind and dictating a lot of their behavior. But I mean they did leak and tease the initial rumor to get people to wonder about "are they or are they not" so it's part of the monster they created. No one was really thinking it before. Not saying TH and EO deserve abuse or anything vicious over it but if you're going to tease and leak rumors like that, they end up taking on a life of their own and you have weather the fallout. And their ambiguous denials just help the shippers and haters from perpetuating those rumors. Yay gossip and celebrities lol

The Charlie Rose interview did air but they haven't posted it yet on either youtube or their site. I'm afraid to even watch it. I don't know if I can watch him be so heartfelt anymore. It's like when new parents coo over their infant's dirty nappy.

>>844 Goodness, talk about perpetuating the talk. People are going to keep asking him about Bond - he needs to come up with better answers than what I've heard so far. And he needs to ditch the 'awww shucks' way of answering it. When an interviewer on the RC suggested he could make a good Bond, TH actually blessed him for saying it. If he wants to be Bond (I think he does), well, Bond doesn't bless people.

Stock answer: 'Listen (shows a Bond-like forcefulness), if you're British, wear suits and have a penis, you're going to be linked to Bond. I'm British, I wear suits and I have a penis - just ask the co-star of my latest movie, she's seen it (shows Bond-like alley cat morals). So while the talk is flattering, it's just talk, nothing more.' (And then DON'T babble on about how much you liked Bond when you were in short pants!)

Or

'If I had been Bond, Judi Dench's M would still be alive.'

847 Name: Anon : 2016-03-26 12:06 ID:qAvx5iXW

>>846 He wants it. That's the problem. His little face lights up whenever anyone suggests it. He is obviously thrilled to be mentioned in the same sentence as Bond and I don't begrudge him that especially while he's flogging the ISTL dead horse and seeing his dreams of Oscar glory crumble.

But I agree that his puppyish enthusiasm isn't screaming "Bond." Neither, from my perspective, is the publicity given to his ever-increasing entourage, which is making my ladyparts shrivel. Does Bond travel with a groomer (ugh)? I know he always travelled with a makeup lady and the Lady's Maid, so the image I had of him as a low(ish) maintenance guy was to a degree an illusion. But even last summer he seems to have dealt with the new clothes problem by going to his local Reiss (there is one in Hampstead) and doing a supermarket sweep. ("V neck tees? Ooh yes I will have 6 please!"). It was endearing. Carefully curated Italian cashmere polo shirts - a lot less so.
