It's hard not to drink when your social life mostly revolves around going to bars and restaurants with people.

>>529Ssounds like you make shitty decisions about where to live, where to work, and who to hang out with and then want to lay the blame for those shitty decisions at the feet of society, my dude. Literally all of those things(well, all but one) are 100% within your power to change.
Does iOS-chan need his own (permasaged, ofc) thoughts thread? This shit is dull.
>>534
Or maybe you could just stop derailing the thread and then things will go back to normal. If you don't want people to post about something, stop posting about it. Don't keep on bringing something up and then complain that other people continue to bring it up too.
Think of it like this. Imagine if someone made a comment about tomatoes, and then you said you don't want to talk about tomatoes. Over time, people eventually stop talking about it, or at least don't bring it up very much. Then other people start talking about how they hate tomatoes, and then the pro-tomato guy starts talking about them again (in response to the anti-tomato posts). Then you say "WHY ARE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT TOMATOES? OH MY GOD STOP ALREADY" and then continue to bash tomatoes, generating more discussion about them in the process, and for some reason you think that will somehow quell the tomato talk. However, it only gets people to continue talking about it, because the pro-tomato person wants to clear up any negative comments about tomatoes. But if other people didn't keep on bringing up their hatred for tomatoes, there wouldn't really be any discussion about it at all, and isn't that what they wanted?
Do you understand what I'm saying, or do I have to phrase it in yet another post? I have gone over this idea many times already, but nobody listens.
Or the pro-tomato guy doesn't shut the fuck up about tomatoes and doesn't get the message when everyone else says they don't give a shit about tomatoes.
>>535
Pretty sure he's not complaining about the posts about you...
I sure hate tomatoes and don't like seeing posts about them. Surely making more posts complaining about tomatoes will mean there will be less posts about tomatoes. Oh wait, this post is about tomatoes, which is exactly what I don't want here. Shit.
How was your day? Did you go to church, or at least have the day off?

Picked up a nice desk somebody was giving away. Other than that, nothing much.
>>543
Nowadays a lot of people get cheap Ikea shit that falls apart if you try and move it. Cheap particle board material. It's nice to have good furniture that lasts.
>>544
I specifically didn't go to Ikea today, but still got caught up in half an hour of Ikea-bound traffic thanks to it being the first rainy weekend in what must have seemed like several lifetimes to the hordes of people desperate to browse self-assembly furniture now that they couldn't see the sun again.
>>522
I've listened to only a couple of witch house tracks. Any recommendations?
>>536 Don't forget that the pro-tomato guy also blogs about his life in intimate detail to the point where even during the rare times he's not posting about tomatoes, it's still extremely obvious that it's him. He also sometimes pretends to be anti-tomato just to stir up shit.
>>547
People are talking about furniture and witch house and you're still hung up on tomatoes. Drop it, dude. Don't even reply to this post.

I was born an insufferable hipster. In elementary school I never understood why other children liked boring mainstream shit like batman, power rangers, teenage mutant ninja turtles, and dinosaurs. In middle school I didn't understand the appeal of boy bands, skateboards, Star Wars, and Britney Spears. By high school I'd learned to just block out pop culture completely.
I eventually learned to hide my distaste for mainstream pop culture in order to make friends, but it still slips out sometimes. The other night my friends mentioned Seinfeld and I accidentally blurted out "man, I hate Seinfeld" because man, I really do hate Seinfeld. It's so fucking bland. They just stared at me in disbelief and tried unsuccessfully to convince me that Seinfeld is good. I just nodded and lied "yeah, I probably just need to give it another chance."
Even after years of trying to force myself to enjoy the mainstream in order to fit in, I've completely failed. If anything, I've grown even more judgmental. For example, my sister-in-law has a tattoo of Hello Kitty holding an AK-47. When I was younger I might have found it amusing, because at least it's trying to subvert the mainstream. But now it just seems so cringe-worthy to me. By trying to be edgy and funny, it achieves the exact opposite. It's just lazy, crass, and uncreative.
It seems to me that Sturgeon's Law really is true. But the question is, how can so many people really enjoy all this shit? I honestly don't understand the appeal. I used to think it was because I was "too smart," but a number of my friends who are smarter than myself still love basic mainstream culture.
So there's obviously a problem with me, not everybody else. Yet given a choice between feeling superior or inferior, it's better for my own self-preservation to choose the former. And so I remain a stuck-up elitist that looks down on everyone but tries to hide it to make friends.
>>550
Thought this was kopipe but I googled it and there were no results. So it's original parody then?
If you're serious, I think people just consume pop culture because it's easy. The distribution channels are right there. You don't have to try hard to consume TV, movies, or other widely-distributed stuff. Fewer people put in the effort to look for other things.
I guess it also gives you something to talk about with other people. Water cooler conversations and ice breakers.
Is the poster who was posting about suicidal thoughts still here? Are you feeling any better? What have you been up to lately? Hope all is well.
who says we don't have a world without borders when it closed down in 2011
>>550
I just can't stand people's aversion to anything slightly different from the norm. I can see why would someone like mainstream pop but like, Kate Bush is barely any different why wouldn't you like Kate Bush just listen to her, idiot.
And people consciously seeking stuff they can talk about with other people is giving everyone too much credit. I think everyone has these preconceived notions of what should they listen to and what kind of people listen to this or that genre, and it's hard for everyone to detach these ideas from what they are immediately sensing with their ears and eyes. It sounds sad as fuck, that people condition themselves to like the things they like because they ought to, but I think it's true.
By the way, Kate Bush turns 60 today.

What should you do when someone painstakingly explains a concept you already understand really well? Is it rude to say "I know, you don't need to tell me"? Happened to me today.
LinkinPark-Why don't you fucking kill me(with lyrics)
>>582
Unfortunately most people will find it rude if you shut them down directly. It's much less abrasive to ask a question which indicates your knowledge of the subject, for example:
"Oh yes, I think I've heard about that. What do you think about X?"
or
"Ah yes, isn't it also true that X?"
Where X is something that indicates deep understanding of the concept.
Of course there are many variations on this, the main point is not to directly shut them down with "I know." If you want to change the topic, make X something only tangentially related. If they don't take the hint after multiple attempts to indicate your knowledge, turn the tables by painstakingly explaining the concept to them. Or you can always just make an excuse to end the conversation.
Who knew the world was capable of such oxymoronic, paradoxical juxtapositions?

I thought we all mutually agreed to stop with the political shitposting. People were complaining about my political posts in /req/ and now you're starting up. Just stop.
Let's talk about something else. I just found out that there are some alcoholic drinks that have caffeine in them. This both intrigues and worries me. It could be interesting but I could see it going horribly wrong, as it would mask how drunk you are, or possibly lead to elevated risk of cardiac arrest because of the uppers and downers stressing out your heart. But it could also be fucking awesome.
Man, some Beer Advocate writers write so beautifully. Extremely evocative. It's a shame they only write about booze.

>>582 I think it's okay to interrupt in a friendly way, like smile and say "it's cool man you don't have to tell me, I'm well-versed in this :)"
>>588 How did you just find out about this, did you just turn 21 last week?
Alcohol + caffeine drinks are banned, at least as premixed drinks, in a lot of places for exactly that reason though. They all had names like "jolt" or "jaguar" and teenagers kept drinking 30 of them at a time and dying, so they're even banned in Russia now.
Take it from a pro narkoman, don't mix uppers and downers. Good way to die or at least end up very sick. Benzos go well with just about everything though, takes the paranoiac edge off of weed or uppers and makes downers even more comfy.
>>597
benzos seem cool until you're addicted and then everything sucks
>>598 yeah, they're an insidious little thing. Goes well with anything, one of the comfiest highs ever even on its own, especially if you're a naturally jittery and anxious person already like me. Comedown and withdrawal is the worst shit I've ever had though, like being wide awake for 3 days at a time having a panic attack thinking your heart is exploding. If you take em on the regular, don't take them before bed no matter how tempting it is, you'll come to rely on them to fall asleep and then when they're gone you will know true suffering.
What a rush!
