Less than a week ago, I thought the premise of the show was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard. Suiseiseki was just a meme, and I didn't even know any other characters. But then I watched the first episode. And then the second. And couldn't stop until I was done with Traumend. That was four days ago. By then, I was hopelessly entangled. I was in love with the show and the dolls. I started daydreaming that I was a member of the show's cast, or that I had a Rozen Maiden of my own. I suddenly had a craving for tea, so I went out and bought some, and it's all I've been drinking these past few days. And then it got even worse. Two days ago, I watched Overture. Now, I'm hopelessly in love with Suigintou. All I want from life is to be able to hold Suigintou and be able to cheer her up, make her happy again, so I can see her smile again. I fantasize about her becoming human, so I can go out with her, make sweet, sweet, love to her, and marry her and have a happy life with my dear Suigintou. The show's given me other side effects, too, which keep getting worse. Whenever I see porn or hentai now, all I can think is "no dolljoints, not hot." All I can fap to is Suigintou doujins. The problem with that sort of advice is that the students who need it most won't bother to read it. Although I'm probably being too cynical, it will probably help at least a few kids and that's better than nothing.
When I was a student I loved the teachers that were cynical, smart, and eccentric. I probably would have liked the teacher you are describing. But now I think back on those teachers and find them shallow and a bit cringe-worthy. The sign "our sins catch up to us eventually" would have probably seemed profound and edgy to my teenager self, but it seems kind of bland and lame now.
As for the truth of the statement, it seems pretty reasonable regardless of your religious beliefs. Even if there is no such thing as karma, you're likely to get caught eventually if you have a habit of doing bad things. And even if you never get caught, you will probably end up punishing yourself in one way or another.

They usually just harmlessly surf the internet all day and collect a paycheck while I do the real work. Write programs for yourself. Write programs that solve problems you have, or automate tasks, or do something interesting you've never programmed before (e.g. use a SQLite database or a TCP socket or an FFI for a C library, or a GUI). Write text games or graphical games. Pick a simple utility program on your computer and replicate it. Write medium-sized programs with multiple moving parts -- programs like that might seem daunting at first, but you'll be fine.
Importantly, don't be afraid to drop a project and go on to something else. Think of programming as art, and programs as sketches. Every failed program taught you something. If you want, try writing it again, but do something different. Different language? Different architecture? Different libraries?
After that, you'll only get better at it. The nature of the puzzles in programming naturally help you become a self-directed learner, so you only have to rely on your patience, curiosity, and google-fu to learn more.
