I am on holiday too, as it happens very close to where TH's mother lives. Believe me, I have my eyes peeled!
But now a confession. When I was 24 I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I am now cringeing inwardly at what our mutual friends might have said of that relationship behind our backs. But from inside it didn't feel so weird. We worked at the same place and in the same profession (he was more senior). I only really felt the age gap when we talked about music because at the time I knew nada about anything predating 1985. He felt it too because I recall him turning pale when he was playing "Jumping Jack FLash" and I asked who it was. But overall it was great - he had a fantastic wine cellar, he drove an e-type Jag and (since I'm deep into TMI already) the sex was far and away the best I had had up till then. And I think he enjoyed having a much younger girlfriend - the pleasure of corrupting me by showing me a range of life's experiences, hehehehe.
So I kind of see the appeal. We may be laughing at the dad dancing but I bet they are both loving it for various reasons, and I bet it doesn't feel ridiculous.

I totally get the benefits / attraction for both of them in this scenario. I just can't get my head around him destroying or distorting the good vibe and kudos that had built up during the recent press tour and positive reception of TNM.

The thing here is that Swift is a PR machine and her love life is part of her machine. It seems to me, from what I read about her, that she doesn't actually loves men the way you are supposed to love the opposite sex (no, I'm not suggesting she is gay), I don't see her interest for them, the wish to spend time in their universe to understand them, it's all centred on her and her world. She likes them the way you like a new accessory that fits well into your new outfit, as a means to an end, and when it's time to renovate she finds another. Which is fair because if I can see this by only reading about her history, it means it's evident.
That's why I don't feel any sympathy for TH, nor I feel sorry for the backlash. This is a guy that read the first 100 pages of a journalist's book before an interview with her. There's no way that he didn't look up Taylor Swift after the dinner at Wintour's. He walked into this with full knowledge, he walked into this knowing he was about to smooch with a girl that only 2 weeks before was chirping about her other boyfriend while probably texting with TH the whole month of May. And I bet that in the month between Met and beachsmooching he talked with his sisters and they more than likely told him it was a bad idea and he more than likely got stubborn and decided to prove them wrong (the way he got stubborn about ISTL being a film with a great script and a great director).
And ironically, this is not even making him more sexy. It's a lose-lose situation, because in the same way the PowerThatBe didn't give a shit about him being internet famous, they are not going to give a shit about him being Swift famous, they only care about box-office results and this PR campaign of a love story wont' make a shit of difference with movie-goers.

Plus the lifestyle bump - as I was trying to say a few days ago he isn't so rich in London rich terms. He lives the life of a one percenter, but in London earning £500k or even a million a year buys you a nice 4 bedroom house in a posh area with maybe a housekeeper who comes in 2 days a week, and pays your kids' school fees and for a couple of splashy foreign holidays a year. Nice if you can get it, but there is still a huge difference between that and being the 0.1% - living in a £30 million apartment in Knightsbridge and having a private jet and chef and all that stuff. He looks at the moment like someone who's living the dream and it must be fascinating to have a window into that lifestyle. As Anon. said, hanging out with ehr is probably fun and relaxing - another holiday romance situation.
So my take is also that he knows in his brain it smells of career suicide, ridicule, and a future full of having to dance to crap teeny music and hang out with Kendall Jenner and whatever other airheads TS has in her squad. But at the moment he is choosing not to allow his brain to make his decisions.
I am not sure how long I give it, and the absence in Australia plus defiance at being laughed at may actually prolong the relationship. However after a time the 10-year age gap and the "personal interests" gap will start to cause strain (unless he really is so shallow that his entire past life experience has failed to rub off). I also do still think that he has a sizeable streak in his personality that is monkish, spends a lot of time alone or with a very small group of friends, and isn't at all interested in material things. It is a big change from that to being with TS and her crowd 24/7.

How much do you think it will last guys? I don't think it will end as soon as he leave for Thor3 (whenever that may be), they need to sell the idea this is a true love story now.
I also think that PR wise TH hasn't profited much, not just because media, facetious and serious, on both sides of the pond panned him, not just because his own fans panned him, but because at the end of this week the initial burst will be over, if the purpose was to acquire new people interested in his work it was a major fail. TayTay has what? 80mil followers on twitter? 1% of that is 800000, TH didn't have such a strong jump forward, not even of a 0,5%.
Worse still, he is now not more known or famous as Tom HIddleston actor etc. but as Taylor Swift new bf whose name is TH and looks like a dad. And when the breakup comes he'll have to deal with the press again.

People say the relationship seems real and I think so too but I think it's all infatuation and starry eyed awe on Tom's end for landing a pretty young mega pop star with a lavish lifestyle, and for Taylor it's wanting to be a positive center of attention instead of a sad picture of getting dumped yet again.
I'm in it to watch how it all plays out. So far it's been horrific and embarrassing and humiliating for Tom. He's been ridiculed and laughed at by serious press that had always admired him and sang his praises like The Guardian and the Telegraph. He's managed to raise his visibility but only because of his association with Taylor and even then he's a laughingstock. His own fans are laughing at him and jumping ship. Super stans say it doesn't matter, he's getting more hits and clicks than before but I feel quality matters too otherwise wouldn't studios be just casting Kardashians in everything since they're so famous?
Maybe it's a long term plan to stick it out with Taylor until Skull Island releases since he's the lead in it and walk the red carpet with her and get more famous but I don't know if it'll reach that far judging by the response right now. I'd like to think Tom has some self awareness and self respect where he'll put on the brakes on this circus and salvage whatever is left of his dignity and serious actor rep instead of flaming out on sheer hollow celebrity alone.

Couch, you asked how long we thought it might last. I am putting it in the 6-9 month category. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so Australia might prolong the relationship rather than curtail it. And, as I said upthread, he may be defiant about being made a fool of and that might also make him hang on tighter.
Plus, at the moment he looks besotted, is living his dream relationship and is in the honeymoon phase where he will do everything she wants. Unless he has a heart of flint he won't just give up on someone he is very into because of some adverse publicity (even though it seems to have been very widespread on both sides of the Atlantic). It may take more than a few months to wake up and remember what he wants out of life and/or to realise that media interest in this one isn't going to die down and that it will be like this forever.
