Even if I spend every waking moment thinking about it, it'll never come to reality.
All anyone has to know in order to kill me is my address and the fact that I pee outside every morning. That's a scary thought and I hope nobody wants to kill me.
You could murder anyone. Of course, there would be repercussions. But the actual act of murdering that person would have occurred, and it's not even difficult.

Oppaifast sounds like a diet involving several gallons of milk a day.
That hair is utterly ridiculous. I like it.
>>16
Are you sure? When my friend told me she wanted to be a boy and dressed in men's clothing and so on, I reacted harshly because that's basically how I felt I should react. When I sat down and thought about it, I realised I didn't really care. I was a little happy for her, even.
I think this is often the case. Unless they're particularly religious or from an ultra-conservative family, people are open-minded by default. Sometimes we just act a certain way to save face or meet certain social norms, whether it's because we want to appear a certain way around other people, or just because we want to feel comfortable about ourselves.
I need to finish that CD. No, not that CD! The other CD.
>>22
Societal norms? Or the way I was brought up (I know this is the worst excuse ever, but you can't really shake what you were taught as a kid even if you understand it was wrong).
In a way, I suppose it's kind of juvenile. Like people who act differently to appear cool, or people who feel uncomfortable watching cute magical girl shows even if they enjoy them.
Finally that big thunderstorm we've been promised for the past week has come to my town. This kind of weather kind of makes me want to climb the roof and hang on to the lightning rod. It'll all be better tomorrow. Apart from the weather, that is.

Got my Book of Mormon in the mail yesterday. Actually bothered to look at this morning and I'm 100% convinced guys, I am converting right now and you all should too... er... I mean, I looked at it and inside is an inscription: "To Wayne: Thanks for everything! /s [some couple]"
What a disappointing gift. I'm sure that in a way, they felt they were doing Wayne a favor, but still, what a cop out. Wayne didn't get a box of chocolates for his efforts. He didn't get a gift certificate to a store or restaurant he enjoys. No, Wayne got a book they give away for free. You can see almost see the look on Wayne's face in that inscription. Poor guy...

Why is my gender so manipulative and cruel?
I had the urge to write a random musical analysis, but I don't know anybody who would actually care to read it. I'll just post it here.
The song "You're No Good for Me" by Kelly Charles is unremarkable, but the intro is quite catchy. Numerous artists have sampled this 8-second acapella with great success. The hook is infectious but short; simple but elegant.
Consider the lyrics:
You're no good for me
I don't need nobody
Don't need no one
That's no good for me!
Kelly arranges the words in a simple structure: ABB'A'. The chiastic symmetry contrasts A's personal "you" and "me" with B's more general "nobody" and "no one." Kelly accompanies her elegant lyrical structure with an equally elegant melody.
Unlike the elaborate fortspinnung melodies of the Baroque period, the Classical era popularized simpler melodic statements built up from shorter parts. Kelly's hook exemplifies the Classical melody: each individual line is combined to make a longer melodic statement.
Classical melodies often follow a specific harmonic contour: they first establish the key with alternation between dominant and tonic, then briefly visit the subdominant before going back to a satisfying dominant-tonic resolution. Kelly follows these harmonic guidelines perfectly.
In line 1, Kelly outlines a minor triad, firmly establishing the key and ending on the dominant. Line 2 mirrors line 1, falling back down to the mediant. This returns the harmony to the tonic without completely resolving. The third line rises to the submediant, implying a subdominant harmony. Much like the lyrical structure, line 4 is a variation on line 1. Instead of moving from tonic to dominant, the fourth line begins on the dominant and finally resolves on the high tonic.
The placement of the words within the scale is also quite clever. The two words that fall on the tonic are "you're" and "me". Kelly contrasts the two words by placing her rejected lover on the low tonic at the beginning and herself on the high tonic at the end. Kelly parallels this structure in the first line, where she places "me" on the ending dominant. In the second line, "I" falls on the dominant, while "nobody" ends on the less important supertonic. Similarly, "no one" ends on the submediant in the third line. Kelly thus cleverly empowers herself by placing "me" and "I" on the dominant and high tonic, relegating others to the less important degrees.
I doubt that Kelly Charles considered any of these factors when composing the hook. It is likely that the melody arose naturally from her soul. However, the most natural things often conceal great complexity in their deceptively simple beauty.

It's stressed out since the early days of computing, Don't use double grave accents nor apostrophes to form a quotation mark outside of software where it's applicable, because some many fonts will mess them up and embarrass you.
And, yes, it doesn't makes you look cool or "retro" or whatever, it makes you look dumb. Like some kid who have found his dad's C64 and doesn't know what to do with it, but believes that he's magically 1337 now or something!

Well, 2 of them are dead, but I'm sure they're rolling in their graves.
'Doing this' is retarded. It's like using brackets )like this) instead of (like this). It's not a case of being retro or whatever, it's a case of following the standard. Even if that standard is semi-obsolete thanks to Unicode, it's easier to type `` and '' than g and h. In fact, those characters may not even show thanks to SJIS dickery.
Go complain at the people using - for a minus symbol or ... instead of the dedicated ellipsis symbol. They're committing the same dreadful sin.
>>81
I was under the impression that - was a minus symbol, but kept getting misused as various forms of dash.
> it's easier to type `` and '' than g and h.
When you are habitually used to typing g and h on any virtual keyboard that doesnft make it incredibly difficult, not really.
> So when people ask, `Why are you beginning this quotation with two grave accents?'' I can just as easily ask why they're hyphenating two numbers in
9-3=6'.
When it comes to Unicode-friendly environments, I have my horizontal lines straight, thank you. I only hyphen to subtract when I code. Save it for someone else.
> In fact, those characters may not even show thanks to SJIS dickery.
On these boards, SJIS dickeryc isnft. Most Unicode Ifve ever seen here (bar perhaps the astral planes) gets entityfd.

Try using "". This is why they are designed to look straight, not angled like . Also, imagine how much space you save in the modern UTF-16 environment by using "" instead of double

There is also a slight problem with your hyperlinks: none of them leads to some obsolete manual of style or typing guidelines.
> In fact, those characters may not even show thanks to SJIS dickery.
You are, probably, lagging behind for about a decade. Even Windows supports majority of unicode characters by default.
>page uses " quotes and ' apostrophes

>>97
WHOA WHOA WHOA! The computer ate my grave accents.
See? This is terrible. You are terrible.
On the second thought, if punching unicode number in is too tiring for you, you could use a specialized software which would replace double grave accents and apostrophes with proper quotation marks. Set it up to work with your browser. Or you can edit your layout and add proper quotation marks on (for example) "<", ">" keys with Alt+Shift key sequence.
>>98
But then what will I press when I'm doing hardcore programming in HTML?
>>99
Wait, are you coding in your browser? Like, on some web-site instead of FrontPage or notepad?
But anyway, the last sentence meant that you have to press Alt+Shift+< (+>) to input left/right quotation marks. So, typing tags would be fine. And you'd use special entities of quotation marks in your html, right? ttp://htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/entities/special.html

In general, cats do not like being left in another place with (what are to them) strangers; it's like a nightmare where their home and loving family have been taken from them--one of them is bad enough, both is just-fucking-kill-me-already territory. >>173
"Clingy" is the most stupid word in the world ever.
I want to go back to the old days where people would marry within months. Even if most people would (and probably did) end up miserable.
>>177
Well, most young girls don't get highly attached for any good reason at all. They want some fairy tale idea of love that doesn't mean anything but compassion without basis, a reciprocal closeness bound only by how "close" you appear to be. Also I think these "old days" you are talking about were when arranged marriages were predominant.
>>177
No, clingy is a very descriptive and useful word. It describes well the sort of person who won't allow her boyfriend a single day alone, who leaves him text messages when he's at work and wants always to know where he is and what he's doing and to likewise share her own location and doings. The sort who thinks if a couple spends a week apart, they're in a bad relationship.
Some guys like this, I'm sure. One man's "clingy" is another man's "dedicated", after all.
"Clingy" works when the person just doesn't know how to relinquish their feelings for you.
> Some guys like this, I'm sure. One man's "clingy" is another man's "dedicated", after all.
I was about to say: I would quite like this.
I can understand how people would find it annoying, but even though I like my personal space I would really enjoy having someone cling to me 24/7. As long as they don't go full-on yandere, of course.
I try to subtly split imperatives whenever I can.
It would be good if my girl was slightly more yandere
>>181
Well, for me it maybe depends on the sort of girl. I would have to really be crazy about her in the same way she is about me for it to work. Otherwise it just would get tedious and grating.

I almost forgot how incredibly shitty internet explorer 6 is. I cannot even open new tabs.
Wow, that cat sure is patient. What do you want little cat? I finally started petting you, is that all you want? You've been trying to get my attention for the past ten minutes.
It's 32 degrees Celsius in the shade. I wish I could go and check my mailbox in the nude, but living on the top floor of a high-rise apartment block (and not even having the apartment to myself) makes that a little difficult.
I am so fucking tired of this shit.

In the old days, we had a form of tabs that worked with any "app" and appeared in a single, centralized location.
We called them "windows".

Agreed about the fanbase part. To be honest, it's such a vast and complicated storyline, I don't understand how so many idiots love it. Is it the prospect of BL or what?
Not that I think it's deep or anything. I just think it's too meaty for babies to chew.
>>253 i guess he's right, it's not very dqn, and the realisation with sadness that i perhaps have ascended away from myself as a dokyun in this way has hit me rather forcefully. I suddenly feel like a right gaijin!

I want to lucid dream.
>>256 I meant I realised now I have a stable relationship I don't feel very DQN anymore, and it feels a bit rude of me to be amongst you now.
To be honest, I have a strange respect for people who bring up their marriages or relationships in a non-obnoxious manner. I'm a shut-in NEET, but I'm happy to be among real grown-ups.
>>259 Oh, I don't talk about it, and I agree there is a lot of blog posts, hopefully that blog thread will soak up some of them, but I can't help no longer feeling an affinity to the DQN archetype, vague though the chap may be. Maybe other things affect other things>
No, this isn't allowed. I'm always the one who can accomodate every eventuality; I'm not allowed to be overwhelmed. Of course I get tired, but I don't just get tired of life. What am I supposed to say or think? "It's just too much?" Of course it fucking isn't, how could it be. I don't need naps. I don't need rest. Even my "relaxing" hobbies aren't really relaxing, and that's just exactly how it should be. I'm not going to post this. My beloved, I won't fail you. But to attempt it in this state - we remember what happened the time before last. I cannot put myself through that again. I'm not going to post this. My love, I cannot even see you. Where are you? Where are you? No, I cannot sleep. I can throw off most of my obligations for tonight but this one still stands. I don't even have the patterns, besides something vague involving cogwheels and flowers. I have no idea what the sleeves are to be like. The hat - likewise, no idea. Perhaps just the original? The straw hat inspired one? I'm going to fucking end up posting this, aren't I. Oh, but the wings. If I can make this work then it will all be worth it. It will all be worth it. My guardian atop my bed, how could my subconscious defy me then? I swear I'm not actually insane. I shouldn't post this. Is one picture ever enough? Oh, my poor head. Poor me. Please have some pity.
I cannot conclude this at all.
I wish she would message me back already. And that my other friends did not have a gig tomorrow. I have nothing to do after work.

There was a time in the US, back in the late 1990s, when a now nearly-defunct dialup Internet service provider called "America Online" shipped free setup CDs out as junk mail to every address they could find on the continent.
People found novel uses for the CDs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uADnSZszD-s
My favorite, which I can no longer find online, was a solar cooker that focused sunlight using the shiny sides of several hundred old AOL CDs and could be used to fry sausages, melt metal for recycling, fire pottery, or inscribe one's initials on the surface of the Moon. It was less of a "solar cooker" and more of a "death ray," come to think of it.
>>286
Are you from the future?!
My favourite was the campaign to collect a few hundred thousand of them and dump them on AOL HQ.

I'm going to need some more info on this from you. I have tons of old CDs that I could actually use for something. Ever since thumbdrives came out I don't know what to do with CDs anymore. But a fuel-less way to melt metal would be very useful to me.
>>298
They were arranged in such a fashion so that the shiny sides reflected light to focus it on a specific point in space. There is a word for this:

With enough CDs you could become a supervillain and threaten to burn satellites out of orbit, or write graffiti on the Moon.
Did you know the Scottish have some funny names for what is otherwise fairly normal food?

Not as bad as Wales. They have a food called "Welsh rarebit". It's basically cheese on toast and it contains no "rarebit" (which isn't even a real world) nor rabbit. And top it all off, it isn't even Welsh!
I think Wales is a silly name for a country.
>>302
It's not like they knew whales and wails were going to be modern English words. Leave them alone.

Oh I see. Do you know of a guide to making such a heliostat? I've been googling various forms of how to make a DIY heliostat from old CDs and found nothing.

My friend read all the scripts to Red Dwarf before he ever botehred watching a single episode. He was terribly disappointed by the low production values of the show and choice of actors portraying the roles. So basically, he enjoyed reading the series rather than actually watching it.
It got me thinking. So much of anime is just dead air: people walking down a street, staring out a window, people locked in battle, opening and closing credits, and other wastes of time. If a series were deconstructed back into story boards, an episode might take five minutes or less to read instead of watching it for a half hour.
Let's be honest. I think a lot of us are only watching this stuff to be remain part of "the culture" anyway. Why not free up our valuable time for more depressing things? Never mind, I just figured it out.
I'm falling in love with a certain popular shonen. This can't be good.
>>314
Good idea with the story boards. I'm sure no one's thought of selling those in Japan before :-)
>>314
But the whole point of Red Dwarf (and where most of its humour derived from) was the characters interacting with each other. And Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, etc. did a great job at that. Hell, the good casting choices couldn't be more obvious with Holly. When Norman Lovett quit and Hattie Hayridge took over with the same lines intended for him, Holly lost his charm.
Your friend is stupid and he should just read books.
>I think a lot of us are only watching this stuff to be remain part of "the culture" anyway.
I object, sir. I watch anime for cute things.
>>314
Read manga, then. Almost the same as storyboards. Or go straight for the light novels.
Star Wars could be cut down to ten minutes, easily. We don't meet Luke until about ten minutes in which is dumb. Then there's all the meeting people and character interaction, a.k.a. boring filler. What should happen:
Let's be honest here, most works of fiction, books, movies, or anime, could all have their plots heavily condensed. If you are getting bored of all the padding you should probably take a break from consuming media of that type.
>>321
Yup. See http://rinkworks.com/bookaminute/ and http://rinkworks.com/movieaminute/ for some extreme examples.

This. In fact, I recommend this for anything. Every fanbase is awful and everyone has strong opinions. The day I stopped reading reviews and blogs and forums was the day I learned to enjoy things a lot more. It's quite astounding how many anime I've liked but most people hated, or films the critics loved but I thought were awful.

I came to this realization about video games a while ago. A lot of people seem to judge games in terms of other games and then reason along the lines of "This is not like my FAVORITE GAME in aspect X, so it's a CRAPPY GAME." e.g. "bad controls" sometimes actually means "you have to be willing to get used to how it controls before you can enjoy it, because it's a bit different from <popular game that is similar, superficially or otherwise>."

On principle I never post in shitty threads (hence why I'm responding in this thread) but I absolutely must agree with you. I don't come here to read about other people's everyday lives, nor do I particularly feel the need to tell everyone about mine. I think that, somewhat like the shitposting thread, people just post in it because it's there. It doesn't actually reduce the number of blog/shit posts in other threads because they wouldn't have been prompted to post it otherwise.
Instead, of course, the newbies get the idea that this is what they're supposed to be posting, and DQN comes one step closer to 4chan. Nonetheless, I'm well aware that this post probably won't solve a damned thing. The best solution is, of course, to make a significant number of good posts in order to offset the shitty ones.

Welp, there goes what little respect I had for you.
It's just like how women can't be sexist, isn't it.
Anyone can be racist and sexist...
Is ethnic nationalism racist?
Nationality =/= race, so no.
racism= privilege+power
people of color and women can have internalized racism and sexism, but since they do not benefit from it and the power structures behind it the same way a privileged person does it is not the same
What really gets me is when every kind of sexism towards women is called misogynist (this is a very popular use of the term in "feminist" circles), even though it really ought to refer to a fairly specific kind of sexism towards women (consider the man, for example, who is sexist towards women on virtue of basically using them as fucktoys, but is not necessarily going around with the "nah, I won't let you ___ because you're a woman and can't do it right" type attitude).
It ruins the stigma the term once had by turning the majority of human beings into misogynists. Oh the irony... feminism is about empowering everyone by denigrating nobody, yet here they are, ruining the language and we are powerless to stop it. Anti-bigot bigots are hypocrites, and have thus earned my ire.
Also the VC for this post is ho, which must be symbolic of something or other. I will choose to believe it is symbolic of this video, which is fairly convincing evidence that a bowl judgment of the apocalypse may have spilled a few drops prematurely: ttp://youtu.be/T6j4f8cHBIM

No interesting cloud formations recently, no.
But it was very hot here for the past few weeks, then cooled off considerably over the weekend. So I celebrated by barbecuing some pork ribs. They were okay, and the leftovers are in the refrigerator.

There is this cute girl I want to get to know better and sleep with, but the catch is she's extremely right wing. For some reason, this makes me want to do it even more.

My attitude to food is like a sine wave. I go from "ugh, food is a pain" where I'll often go a day or more without eating, to "I LOVE FOOD" where it's one of my greatest pleasures and I get fat quickly.
If you're very indifferent about food and don't mind a lack of variety, try eating something balanced but rather plain. For me it's usually chicken soup + wholemeal bread + fruit/vegetable smoothies. I've never bothered working out the numbers and I'm probably missing some important nutrient, but I regularly go weeks with nothing but these.

Man Finnegans Wake is a fucking FASCINATING book. I've been rereading it recently. It's surprising how much it changes, how much the book grows with you. You remind me of when I was about your age and I showed one of my friends some bad racing game for the PlayStation. He hadn't really played many video games before so it completely blew his mind, and for months he wouldn't shut up to everyone about what an amazing game it was.
Why are people on /jp/ still stalking and harassing me? I haven't posted there for months.
For too long have they stolen our time from us. Enough! Tonight the hours are ours and ours alone!
>>467
Not "Tokiko" but Finnegans Wake is perhaps the greatest work of literature of all time. It's not right at all to compare it with some "bad racing game" because it is the magnum opus of who is considered the best author in the English language. Finnegans Wake is an important book within the context postmodernity and, to a greater extant, in the literary canon, for its unique and creative deconstruction not only of myth and the metanarrative but also Western literature. It is not a satire of one specific book or one specific story; Joyce's Wake mercilessly attacks all books and all stories. It may be difficult to read, but that does not mean it is a bad book. Saying "Hurr durr this book is hard to read, therefore IT'S dumb" only makes YOU look like an idiot.

I envy your steady progress. This summer, I learned ~300 and then forgot half. I'd study with fervor and dedication, if only for a few weeks, and then reject anything Japanese at all.
Are you following a specific method outlined in a book? Actually, it's silly of me to assume you're a beginner. What have your methods been?
Oh, I'm a beginner. I started this summer. I just look up Kanji on Saiga-JP, I really don't have a good method at all...
This is a very different kind of contentedness. Not better, not worse, merely different.
This essay on minimalism is coming along well, but I can't help but feel it's inadequate and I should start over.
>>491
Remembering the Kanji helped me for a while, but I truly lacked dedication, so now I'm not sure whether I should start all over again (for the third time). I have been considering following Tae Kim's Guide to Japanese Grammar and just learning the kanji from that. I may try that. All Japanese All the Time has a good list of links to Japanese things to do, though being on DQN you probably have enough of those. The site also supports the philosophy that one should learn Japanese as a Japanese baby would, but I'm not too sure about that. There's also a thread on our Film & TV board that discusses streaming Japanese TV, assuming you weren't part of that thread in the first place. Playing Japanese ROMS of most games is fun, as most of them don't have any kanji. The Chibi Maruko-Chan titles for the Game Boy are of the most interest to me. Sorry for the unsolicited advice. Truly, I spend more time looking for ways to study Japanese than studying it.
Strangely enough, when I get lazy and give up on kanji, I give learning perl a try. When I get lazy and give up on perl... Maybe there's a pill for that sort of thing.
>>492
That's not a bad idea. That's a good balance between "don't bother learning any kanji until you've taken at least two Japanese courses in college" and "learn ALL of the kanji before you learn the coupla."
>>494
Less is more, when it comes to essays on minimalism. You should write the shortest essay possible that gets your ideas across. And print it in the simplest, plainest font. On plain white paper.

I have seen many, many referrals to Heisig's method over the years. I have given it the once-over, and I agree wholeheartedly with the critics: The biggest problem with RTK is that it is exactly what it says on the tin. You may remember kanji... but that's all time you're not spending learning Japanese. It's time spent reading and thinking in English idiom, which is a surefire way to not learn a new language. So what the hell is the point, then!?
Not going to say that the methodology is all bad, though. Associating stories with things to memorize works really well and all the super-memorizers do it. But the best stories are the ones that fire quickly from your own neurons (dirty stories work really well). Or if (for example) you find ways to associate the metric shitload of kanji pronounced "dai" and associated vocabulary with James Bond in Die Another Day, that's another way of going about it. And there is something to be said for understanding the components that make up kanji; when you understand that comparatively few building blocks make up most of the set, it becomes much less of a deal that there are hundreds of kanji left to learn.
To sum up: for to learn a language, live her as she is spoke.

A wild kanji appeared! It's , the kanji for egg! (Tamago)

Oh yeah. That reminded me of an OVA I watched called Tenshi no Tamago. I'll make sure to remember this kanji.

It's a really good film.
How upset people are over "cisgender" upsets me. It's a term for something that has always existed, and of course you're going to get a few nutjobs. Stop giving them attention and assuming everyone is the same.
I'm less concerned about global warming and more concerned about how much shit (both figurative and literal) is being dispensed into our oceans by inconsiderate douchebags. Fish might not be self-aware, but they're kind of vital, and considering how many species make homes underwater, if sea creatures go down the natural world is going down with it.
This particular Monday I'm going to try not to post about cake on DQN. Instead, I'll post about not posting about cake on DQN.

You really need to stop.
Apparently I'm going out for a meal tomorrow and not getting home until around 9:30pm?? I had assumed it would be much earlier than that. This is concerning.
>>499 I used to remember the hiragana "ya" as if he was a wee man running away with a baby under his arm, and I remembered it in my head like "ya bastard, you're stealing ma baby!" and "su" is like my friend Sue because she has massive tits.
>>507
Terms for things that have always existed aren't always good terms. For example, before the term cisgender was coined, the closest thing that particular latin prefix was used for was cisvestism/cisvestite, a rarely used term in psychology for the practice of wearing clothes intended for the same gender but not that person's proper station (e.g. a grown man who dresses in boy's clothes... or all sorts of dress-ups you see in porn, though I guess that's more like a fetish and not the now not-exactly-credited psychological condition).
And the first few times someone comes across a word makes all the difference. These days, it seems someone who matches the description is likely to first come across the term while they are being insulted (e.g. being told they have "privilege", are "scum", are "transphobic", etc.), or come across it in a similar context where someone else was being insulted. Then in connotation, it is no longer the neutral term it was used as--a bad term guilty by association (in reverse, this is how you can slip backhanded compliments under the radar: sugar-coat an insult someone doesn't know well enough, and they'll probably think "nepotist" means philanthropist or something). It will take years to see how things ultimately pan out, but if the next few decades pan out the way I'm thinking they are, it's definitely going to ride the euphemism treadmill simply because some radical elements have used it in insulting ways. No great debate was ever carried by this style of name-calling.
It's not time yet but I want to go do something.

I hate the people who whine about the people who point out that certain post/ers are un-DQN. It's just flat out hypocrisy. Be honest: There ARE certain posters who don't belong here, and you're ONE OF THEM if you describe yourself as being the type, even unconsciously so.

Typical cisgender entitlement. Nobody thinks they're "special". When blacks were fighting for equal rights, they weren't just attention whores who thought they were "special". It was a real issue, and even now white privilege still exists.
It's exactly the same with transpeople and cispeople.

Haha you're acting just like one of those dumbfucks who use tumblr
Gender is a social construct and artificial. It is useless to create your own gender identity or describe yourself as being "male" or "female" mentally or in other non-physical terms for this reason. It is purely artificial. If anything, gender is more a linguistic construct than all else.
If you have a penis, you are male. If you are male, you have a penis. Why should it mean anything more than this? This kind of relationship works and it is how people expect it to work. Go ahead and wear dresses, but I do not see the point in saying that you're a woman if you do not have female genitalia.
>Gender is a social construct and artificial.
Then we're in agreement. And if people want to identify as a social construct irrespective of their sex, why not let them?
What you're referring to in the second part of your post is biological sex. Nobody denies that people born with a penis and XY chromosomes are different to people with a vagina and XX chromosomes. But if those people choose they want to be a gender different to their physical sex, or that they were born as such, what's wrong with that?

I wonder if you're talking about somebody I know. Is there any sort of identifier you'd be willing to drop? Like initials or a first name?
>>593
I'd imagine that people disappearing isn't an uncommon thing around these parts of the Internet, but that's possible.
I'm afraid that I can't state even his initials without feeling like I'm telling too much... but if you post some identifier(s) of the person(s) you're thinking of, I'll probably be fine with saying whether I might know them or not. Initials or names would be better than actual monikers (which are often much more unique), to keep things vague.
>>594
That's understandable. I know that it's most likely a coincidence, but I'm too curious. Does it happen to be HR?

I dislike Reddit for different reasons--their constant regurgitation of last week's 4chan memes, the utter lack of creativity, the "le derp derp, le memes, le lolcats, le FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" If you're going to swim in a sea of sewage, then go to the source and dive into /b/. Don't be some middle-age wannabe hipster with a soul patch. It's lame.
also,
>implying the 21st Century Internet as a whole isn't a wretched hive of scum and villainy, even worse than it was in the 90s
>>601
Well, my point is that people focus too much on the Reddit-stealing-memes thing. And it is a real issue (I see motivationals and image macros from 5 years ago on the front page whenever I visit). But it's a symptom of a larger problem. Reddit's userbase is broken, thanks to the egoism inherent in a system that rewards you with numbers for your comments. It's really no different to YouTube's top comments, even if the users are a little older and have a few more IQ points.
I wish more people would realize the benefits of an anonymous system, but I guess it's just incompatible with how most people in the West think, particularly in the blogosphere age.

I don't like the change of The Big Bang Theory around the 3rd season. It degraded from a funny sci-fi show about science geeks for nerds into a repetitive romantic comedy with a limited set of characters.
Penny used to be a girl who hanged out with other people and now what? In 4th season she says that she has no dreams, no hope, no friends in LA; she hangs out with two nerdy girls. What the heck? She used to be a party girl with a dubious choice of boyfriends.
The main characters don't seem to work anymore. All they do is hang out in cafeteria, in restaurants or in somebody's house. Whenever altogether or with their girlfriends. Plus desperate Rajesh. Plus current Sheldon is now only a shadow of former Sheldon. As if while everyone were getting older and wiser, he became more and more childish.
I can't believe that the last two seasons had much higher ratings than the first two. At least now I can see why they cancelled Firefly.

Gentlemen. We must find a way to combine the "spaghetti fell out of my pockets" meme with the "creepy pasta" meme. I believe that it can be done.
>>613
Actually it was in a much-much older game from late 90s. You had to combine a bottle of spray with a lighter and somehow fight some alien thing with it or something.
So, anyway. I just finished the last episode of the last season TBBT. I must say that it was considerably better than the 4th, but mocking Soviet/Russian space program, really? This is just mean. It's, like, the only good thing left here. Those ill-conceived Armageddon-style jokes are distasteful. They were fitting during the 90s, when basically everything in ex-USSR was in disrepair, but not nowadays.
Excuse me my language, but I bet this is because that faggot is still butthurt over The Theorists, a copycat show which was filmed in Belarus. But it was retarded. And actors quit it anyway as soon as they learned that it wasn't licensed. Licensed remakes suck big time anyway.

Does any living thing ever stop learning before it dies? Learning, growth, change, these are part of life, regardless of your age. Not long ago I read of a man who decided at the age of 78 to go to medical school. He graduated and got his MD, too, and practiced medicine for many years.
Hmm. Too serious for DQN?

I just got back from my intermediate Japanese speaking exam. It consisted of two role-play problems. In the first, you had to apologize to your boss at your part time job for managing to get into an accident with a bicycle you borrowed from him. The second assignment was to recommend your favourite movie to your friend and roughly summarize the plot.
I had a lot more problems with the latter. I suspect I have a too high resistance against sounding too informal when addressing a teacher, as I kept slipping back into polite speaking style.
Today is overcast and rainy. I normally love these days, and will go for a walk in the rain. But for some reason I don't feel like doing anything...even posting is too much.

While sleep deprived, I had the idea of putting it in the attic crawl space. Up there, it would be out of sight and still work just fine. The only problem is it would be really hard to get to if we needed to reset it. My sleep deprived solution was to put a switch on the outlet in the attic accessible within the house. This way I could reset things without having to go up there. With this, my house would have an Internet ON/OFF switch.
My housemate suggested that we not limit ourselves to just being able to turn the Internet on or off. Instead, put it on a dimmer switch. That way we can turn it down when it's too intense and adjust its mood...

Dear >>755,
If you wind the clocks back a year (1992?), you won't find anything you described. Tripcode users lived in peace with ( ˃ ˂). And there weren't any active *channers around, because everyone tried to keep this place a secret. Everyone was happy.
And now there is you, a guy who tries to turn people against me. A guy who deliberately puts himself aside from tripcodes and chan-goers. One might make a logical mistake that you must be a true DQN*. But in reality, you are no better than an average *channer.
You are probably even worse, because your only contribution is a constant nagging and complaining. You should move this to your facebook page, it's better suited for this purpose.
Thank you in advance.

For some reason I read this in my head in a very particular way. Is it from something?
Yuru Yuri is so delightfully heartwarming.

I think that it has a very usual rhythm.

You should stop, >>761. You had too much DQN. In fact, so much that you turned into an old geezer who stands on the way of the progress.
There is no old DQN. DQN is happening right here, right now.

Shii isn't relevant
New posts on the anime board haaaaaaa
Shii wrote an essay on tripcodes?
His page on anonymous boards is one of the few things I agree with, as long as I mentally disconnect it from Shii.
Anonymous-san wrote a much better article on anonymity, anyway.
>>811
If you mean using it as a consistent, opt-in identity when you aren't already a person that matters, or it's simply irrelevant, then I'm glad that stigma exists.
Seriously, why people would want an identity like that is beyond me. Also, there are sites like Slashdot and Reddit that reward exactly that sort of behaviour with points. I don't get why you wouldn't go there instead.

And then the DQN which was full of a bottle of 2012 de martino, and then he pitched the Wisconsin television, and nuns and pimps stole their creativity from the envelope. The satisfying creation of capillary writings walled the threesome in which dicks indulged multiple holes which had no human form besides the rubbery physics-true cellulite of money. A global network charged a creative battery and chicken, sunscreen orders grounding 8-bit mtion capture.
We wished the five gestalt television.

Tripcodes are fine if you only use them when and where they are warranted. People that post with them all the time for no reason at all are obnoxious.

Anime aimed at children is much more enjoyable than anime aimed at adults.
>>839
It isn't necessarily one or the other, is it?
Perhaps you are familiar with the Jay Ward animation studio, in the US in the 1960s. Or maybe you know it by its productions: Rocky & Bullwinkle, Roger Ramjet, George of the Jungle. In each of those, the production quality of the animation was rather crude, but the writing was snarky and sarcastic, self-aware and very much postmodern. Most of the jokes were written for the adults who, in those long-ago days, watched television with their children; the current practice of using the idiot box as an electric babysitter came about later.
tl;dr it's entirely possible for entertainment intended principally for an audience of children to contain material written to amuse their parents as well.
urine aimed at children is much more enjoyable than urine amed at adults.

It's not Tokiko or his cronies. The internet has always had its share of obnoxious, arm chair intellectuals. I can think back to the Usenet or dial in BBS boards that were full of little punks who read a bit of Kant and Berkeley and act like they know everything.

So I went for a nice walk along an abandoned railway and, about twenty minutes in, I came across twelve pairs of panties, a bra and a single pink sock lying in the middle of the tracks. I simply don't understand this world any more.

I'M POSTING! I'M POSTING! I'M POSTING IN THIS THREAD!
I tell people I love cooking. I guess I say it to look cool, and it is partly true - I do enjoy making things, and I especially love to cook for friends.
But when I'm alone, it's a complete lie. I hate cooking. I hate how my back aches as I hunch over the kitchen counter that's too short. I hate how much time it takes to peel and cut vegetables, how inefficient the whole process feels. I hate how your hands constantly get dirty, forcing you to either constantly wash them or operate on everything with your pinky. I hate that it takes four times as long to cook as it does to eat. I hate the volume of dish-washing required of a single meal. I hate that eating healthily requires far more time and money than eating unhealthily. I hate that you have to use produce before it goes bad. I hate that you have to go shopping every week. And I hate that all the energy and effort you put into making a single dish vanishes in an instant.
Call me spoiled, but if I ever get filthy rich the first thing I'm doing is hiring a goddamn cook.
God damn it, it's still not up. I am getting frustrated!
Going to eat at food trucks tonight. Yum.

That would make great browsing material. We could also make a thread for posting under the influence of harder drugs.
I need something to waste my time with. Something that will stop me from thinking and take up all my time that doesn't require any thinking and is simple enough to do repeatedly with very little effort. I just need something badly.

If people put the same amount of effort into proper original content as they did joke/ironic/"ironically bad" original content, then the internet would be a better place.
Ain't but one way out. I ain't goin' out that door.
>>977
That's the problem, and why they get old fast.
It's like when people can't dance, so they do a silly, wacky dance as a joke. But it becomes played-out very quickly. If you can't dance, just don't dance.
I decided to internet-stalk a friend out of boredom. While following the trail of usernames I stumbled upon his LiveJournal from 8 years ago, when he was in college. It's clear that he basically made it for the sake of his girlfriend at the time. There are only a few entries, all basically messages to her. Each has a comment from her. One of his interests is even [girl's name] knows my password. His profile picture is a grainy jpeg of his girlfriend sitting on his lap, her arm around him, an expression of quiet love on her face as she opens her mouth to say something witty. When I saw this picture I was filled with deep sadness and regret. This is why you shouldn't haunt your friends' past.
I should hurt people.
>>978 not at all, even if you can't dance you should just let loose and get down anyway
Delightful! But inaccurate.
>>981
Dancing and contributing solid original content to internet communities are two vastly different things. Sure, you'll look silly yet still have fun if you dance without knowing the first thing about it. It's not a collective act where the utility of each patron is dependent on every other patron. Yet in a community which values progress, wit, thoughtfulness or otherwise, the focus will always be on new content. This drives the culture and decidedly changes it for better or worse. This is why newbies are frowned upon for their uninformed carelessness.
