You can tell these are real gamers because most of the monitors are old 4:3s pilfered from some office (and the keyboards/mice probably as well).

what s good practice in music to be able to play/improvise music as precisely as possible? like basically a.playing the right note and interval b. embellish/accompany the melody while avoiding bad sound/dissonancy
so the melody sounds clear and similar but also vibrant enough than a one finger playing

i keep practicing basic scales or just follow the notes but they sucked too much balls and i dont feel improvinf pls advise

Golden rule from Bootsy Collins, "keep it on tha one" - whatever key you're playing in, play that note on the 1 of each measure. The rest of the measure, have fun finding other notes that sound nice and places to play them, but hit the root note on the 1 each time it comes around again. Playing along to songs or drum loops like this will help your timing and creativity

>> No.2788

You don't really study improv, it just comes naturally after you've already learned to play music. If you have 50 pieces under your belt, you should have chord progressions completely internalized and your fingers should just be able to do things without any thought.

As for mental models about improv, it's like a conversation. You don't think about every word you saying a conversation, they just come, one after the other, stream of consciously. You introduce a topic and your thoughts flow from there. Your friend responds or interjects, and you acknowledge their response while adding to it. It's no more magical than a conversation or a public speech is.

>>2787 thank you, keeping them in mind.
>>2788 i definitely memorize a ton of songs by their title and sound but playing is another thing.
>conversation
yea i ve heard this conversation thing, hans zimmer's masterclass right? yea i think it is compositional in concept... but i am looking more of a performance i guess, improvised conversation, fast talking of sorts... i keep thinking i could do faster by knowing more how they work i suppose but i havent got a clue as of yet... anything else you know perhaps?

I don't know if Zimmer said that, but maybe. The only difference between improv and composition is time, they use the same process. Improv is just composing on the spot, the best improv is when you can't believe it wasn't written beforehand. I got the conversation line because I mostly study baroque music, and I've always likened the whole counterpoint approach to harmony as "one conversation where everybody talks all at once." But it's more than just voices talking to each other, it's the shape of the melody between each voice. They should be consistent, have a natural flow to them, like the way you speak.

Like here is something I made up on the spot while practicing organ. It's not the best improv in the world, but one of my better recordings. It's hard to capture this stuff because you're more at ease when there's not any pressure, most of my best improvs have never left my room: https://vocaroo.com/1aDzLO6OdNkh it's a four voice chorale-prelude type thing, the manuals have a lute stop drawn, which makes it sound like a harpsichord sort of, and the "chorale melody" (I'm just making it up) is in the pedals with a clarinet sounding stop.

somehow i came up with some unique fun practice that will let me do one thing and them tackle another one but now i just dont like it and might not work, while i somewhat finished the first one the second one is frustating

and i keep reading the theory to make some sense but it is so useless like its much better you dont have theorethical studies then wtf what do i do i cant work without it....
