Why is it always racism?
There are other social issues to talk about but its always race and sometimes sexuality, i'm honestly very bored of it all.

>>751 Same, I don't follow the storylines, I would hate for people to regard me as a "wrestling fan" - I hate those jabronis and listening to people IRL talk about it makes my skin crawl - but I am fascinated with the art of wrestling and its inner workings. I worked at a game studio making some wrestling games and I gained a lot of useless knowledge about the ins and outs and history of the business. Now I mainly watch deathmatch wrestling

Were people discussing assforce memes just now?!

761 Name: ( ´_ゝ`) : 1993-09-9927 11:42

Yeah, they're awful.
The smarks, the self-admitted marks, etc.
Like gamers nowadays but with less stuff they actually enjoy, I hardly watch because of the embarrassment of admitting I like it because of the stereotypes they have set about fans.

762 Name: ( ´_ゝ`) : 1993-09-9927 12:12

Speaking of dokyun liking pro wrestling, I need a new passion/hobby.
Everything seems to be "dead" or "dying" or on the decline or whatever, from as recent to the 2000s with stuff like gaming to the 1970s with certain spectator sports. Even computing seems to have a very wistful element for old Windows and before the GNU/Linux project got SystemD and all that sort of stuff.
Perhaps this is a sign of the times in general, or just the places I frequent are full of bitter old folk who miss childhood.
The only hobby I haven't seen people say was better in the past is fishkeeping and perhaps model building. I haven't gotten deep into either of those worlds but it makes sense, considering they are about the improvement in technology. Manga fans seem grateful about the ease of reading and finding scanlation, but outside of shonen and certain FOTMs, it doesn't seem like there's many left in the west.
Just once, I would like to get into a hobby or passion or whatever without feeling like I missed out on a lot.

this is a really obscure and small one but knot tying is better now. paracord and other synthetic cordage is way easier to work with than cotton / jute / manila. you can get some used knot books for like $5-10 each off alibris / abebooks / etc. (or just get the abok)

some other hobbies that are better now than ever:
weight lifting (weights are cheap and the fundamentals are better known)
digital art (especially 3D stuff)
macrame / knitting / crochet: diverse raw materials available for cheap as shit due to global supply chains, tons of free info
cooking (in douglas coupland's novels there's several references to how there was a food revolution in amerikkka in the '80s; food in restaurants got way better but also a lot of stuff (like mushrooms) became available fresh (instead of in cans) in most supermarkets for the first time). trend's obviously been continuing. also, more ethnic markets. i live in the middle of bumfuck, nowhere, and i'm within walking distance of a little chinese market just by chance. cast iron has never been cheaper (thanks xi?) and you can get a sous vide immersion thing for $80 online from a restaurant supply store.
board games. yes it's an extremely NERDY hobby but it is a social hobby
weekend warrior hiking (in many places it is pretty much impossible to get lost as a noob these days)
rock climbing is real big too right now. even in my state there is a gym, and there aren't even any hills within a three hour drive from here (to be fair, climbing sux and i wouldn't recommend it unless you live out west)

okay, think I've got this hair gunk thing 80% handled
primarily, I switched conditioner from +protein to +moisture type (turns out there are several parameters you should be evaluating your hair for: shape, pH balance, porosity, and that), now using a showerhead with a comb-shaped stream and using it like one instead of letting it just hit my head, and using the "inversion method" (stick your head upside down so rinse water is sure to go down the hair lengthwise)
not all oils are "for" you, for me coconut was part of the problem, switched to argan
there's other stuff that I'm not too sure on the effectiveness of and it doesn't come to mind.
oh, with low porosity I've found hot->product->tepid rinse->quick cold rinse satisfactory for now.

Learning another keyboard layout is a fool's errand, considering that most work/school computers use QWERTY.

It's useful if you want no one else to be able to use your computer, but unless you type an obscene amount daily (or really want to learn touch typing) I wouldn't vc: deeme it as worthwhile to spend 2-6 months to get to a usable level with a new layout.
It's fun, though!

817 Name: ( ´_ゝ`) : 1993-09-9930 11:50

so few uses of a keyboard are limited by how many keystrokes per minute you can shit out at a constant rate so learning a new layout seems kind of pointless

whether you're a programmer, a writer, a gamer, whatever else you do on your computer, the cap on your productivity is very rarely "i just can't type fast enough to get all my work done, all because of my inferior qwerty layout!"

Ive been typing dvorak for 14 years, and i can still type qwerty fluently when im using someone else's PC. (Though it usually takes like five clicks to go to system settings and add the dvorak layout if im doing anything that will take more than five minutes)

Dvorak is much much better than qwerty. It's not about the typing speed, it's about how much typing makes your hands hurt.

I also have some custom chording layout modifications so that i can type backspace and backslash without using my pinkies. The backslash is important because i type a lot of LaTeX for my job.

821 Name: ( ´_ゝ`) : 1993-09-9930 18:53
