Don't do this.
Harblmaxxing
>>291 I disagree... for one thing, a “live performance” of techno is usually just a guy playing records (some mix more skilfully than others) and at a dance it's not so much about watching the DJ perform, but enjoying the music with everyone in the club (or by yourself at home). I'm a big music nerd myself and am interested in all the strands of music history, how different subgenres were born and how they evolve and weave through other strands, but you don't need to know any of that or have heard landmark releases to find tracks you like. In the realms of dance music, it's often landmark singles rather than EPs/LPs that make an impact and push things forward, but for me at least, the best thing is when you just hear a tune that grabs you and you need to find it. You definitely don't need to know the chronological history of techno to enjoy the music :)

I have been reading about the Arab Spring and democratization of certain Muslim countries and the main thing I took away from it aside from the authoritarian governments (some of which, like the states on the peninsula, which are oppressive to the point of almost parody, especially with their openness about their activities) is the unwillingness to compromise. Like, why not just have Sharia courts for Muslims only and a secular court for everyone else like what is done in certain communities in the UK. After that, I'm sure hardline group like the Brotherhood would be far more likely to be more agreeable on less controversial issues like... worker's rights and conditions.
Also, the reformers in SA are fucked if something happens to the crown prince.
Speaking of the arab spring, is that what privacy-oriented websites are talking about when they are talking about activists or is it extremists in western countries opsec larping

Everyone trashes most types of journalists these days, but I feel like music journalists are the worst because they're just statement regurgitators, and the most interesting stories about artists always come out like ten years later in an interview and are always in the inevitable documentary or nowadays, casually mentioned on their facebook or whatever

It's funny because Sneed is the owner's last name but Chuck is a shortening of Charles and there's just no scenario where a guy named Al Sneed would want to be called Charles.

Taoism is too linked to TCM for most westerners I think, not that I blame them considering even to a religious, superstitious person like me it comes off like medieval witch-doctory
>>362
last time i was in las vegas i saw three (3) unrelated incidents of taoism, making it a bona fide trend according to the new york times style guide!
since you are clearly very interested, here's what i saw:

The history of Westerners adopting Buddhism is a real head trip that has been discussed in this series of threads before. 19th century Aryanpilled dudes picking it up because it was India-flavored, then post-WWII stupid hippies picking it up because it was Japan-flavored.

the essence of reddit intertwines with the non-reddit, thus the separation is meaningless. the shade of one exists within the other. we're all a bit reddit.
if you remove all the medieval witch doctory shit(which is still interesting to read about for approximately the same reason crime documentaries are interesting) you're left with a religion whose core tenet is "take it easy and just let things happen". i can see why it would trend.
This is the only site (excluding banking and other real life essentials) I've used in 2 years now, so if I am reddit to any degree it is by proxy from you guys.

Actually reading deeper into it, people say the post-colonial borders are part of the reason of the constant unrest and infighting in sub-Saharan Africa but after seeing the willingness to invade other countries over ethnic conflict I think ethnic or linguistic states could make the turmoil worse.

Idea: an MMORPG, but instead of a monthly subscription fee, the game uses a small percentage of GPU cycles to mine crypto which is paid to the developers. Would you agree to this, if it was totally transparent and you could control when and for how long the miner ran?

pretty sure at least half of those lanky late 20s computer science majors have since changed their name to "Andrea"
