I find a bit bothersome when you get to the point that you think loneliness is an essential part of your unique identity. Highly ironic that the simplest course of action to dispell such a myth is to reach out and find that your neighbour is lonely too. But then you would lose an important part of your identity, wouldn't you? So you just don't even try and live purposely separated of the rest, married with the immutable idea that nobody will ever understand you, or that you will be forever incapable to form a significant bond with anyone except, maybe, your internet friends whom in reality you only share a couple of niche interests with... and the crushing loneliness because, let's be honest, we all share that feeling.
What a shitty brain lapse. Just don't be sad, ok?

I acknowledge the physical and mental differences between the sexes and the evolutionary context in which they arose, but I also think in a modern society, while still keeping those differences in mind, people ought to do what they want to do and not be confined to their evolutionary pigeonhole. Depending on who I ask such a view either makes me a cis shitlord literally worse than Hitler or a SJW kike.

You acted so reasonable, and you weighed each side fairly, and you didn't make any assumptions, and you properly conveyed your ideas, and you made a well formed opinion. But now everyone knows that you acted reasonable, and you weighed each side fairly, and you didn't make any assumptions, and you properly conveyed your ideas, and you made a well formed opinion.

I didn't take offense. And seemingly no one has noticed which speaks very very highly of how many people actually use this thing.
I carried 12 liters of water for a while today. They were in the form of 24 500ml cheap plastic bottles, all shrinkwrapped together, and as I walked, the only thing I could think of was a thousand giant rats having sex in unison on a really squeaky bed on a really squeaky floor.

Last night I painted a picture of a missile being launched from a boat, saying "THE MISSILE KNOWS WHERE IT IS AT ALL TIMES", and then I just noticed someone posted the video in the youtube thread a couple of days ago. It's really freaky how often things happen in my life then I find it's been posted about within a couple of days here - are we really so alike, or am I posting them then forgetting I posted them?
I'd totally marry a woman just so we can cook for one another and get loads of cats and never have sex.

" your mood and intentions are read " how does this happen? Is it just based on the number of clicks?
they're talking about us again
>>705
Neural networks will be trained on sample data. With various information about the clicks (such as position, number of clicks, frequency, how long clicks are held down, what objects on the screen are clicked, position and angle relative to last click, time of day) as the input, and mood and intentions as output.
>>707
What kind of objects are we talking about here? Will there be pictures of things or just the standard objects you see on a website? What if the clicker accidentally clicks a button they didn't mean to?
>>708
Accidents are statistically insignificant with enough non-accident input, and even if they aren't below the noise floor for NNs the variance will actually help train it better (to mitigate local maxima in mood calculation).
There are many ways to give offense, but the easiest and most effective way is to ignore someone. By doing literally nothing at all, you can send the message to your target that you are better than him and that he is not worth even one second of your time. This works well if your target is trying to greet you or to speak with you, and it works especially well when many other people who you both know are around to witness it.
I was trying to lead into a 'trouser drop' joke as a play on words but I think it just came across as a plain old dubstep reference.

>>739
Pocky is my secret weapon. It helps me focus and keeps me from chewing my nails. It also has a form factor allowing for slow consumption so a box can go quite a long way.
When I need to do anything that'll take more than an hour or so, I like to hit up the library and find a quiet cubicle, which helps reduce distractions and force me to just get it done. I'll often find something interesting I haven't heard in the media section and listen to that while I work\particularly symphonies and other things with a large form factor, because it gives me the chance to sit down and listen to something start to finish that I wouldn't otherwise.
In terms of organization, as soon as I get an assignment I put it on my calendar. It's easier for me to understand my workload and remember to do everything if it's laid out that way. When it gets really heavy/stressful, I write down everything I need to do (school-related and otherwise) individually on sticky notes and then put everything in order of execution, then focus on only one thing at a time and refuse to deviate from that order; this helps keep me from feeling overwhelmed.
And yeah, having been on both sides of the "productivity" curve, I still have to remind myself that the time I spend after I finish stuff is better quality time than the time before I finish stuff. Why not maximize it? (The answer is inertia, which is in the end the biggest foe in our fight to be awesome and rich.)
It's totally fine to want to screw around and waste time. I think that's a more or less universal desire. You just have to recognize that just like with booze, you can control it or it can control you. In the words of Tower of Power, you got to keep your monster on a leash. In the moment it's not fun to put off rewatching Twintails until you finish that assignment, but if you zoom out and look at a bigger perspective, it makes more sense.
Even in an engineering thermodynamics class the girls can't refrain from talking about make up.

Man, I was so good at procastinating at college. I basically mastered the art of doing everything at the last minute. Studying, big programming projects, essays, they were all done right before deadlines.
But kids, don't make a habit out of procastination, or one day you may find yourself in the middle of Hades when you are working.
Also children, if you run an IT company, make sure your programmers are focused on one task only and don't overwhelm them with side projects for fucks sake. Why is this so hard for managers and VPs to understand is beyond me.
Whenever I see the acronym PoC for "person of color" I think it stands for "piece of crap"

If there were a moé anthropomorphism of fluid dynamics, I imagine she'd be a cute girl with long, flowing hair cascading down her shoulders and a lovely stripy dress with swirly frilly bits along the bottom hem. She'd call out to you enticingly, and you'd rush over to her, arms open ready to embrace her, then as soon as you got within range she'd kick you in the nuts as hard as she can.
At first you'd be too shocked and in too much pain to understand what's happening. "But she's such a lovely girl! She couldn't possibly do something like kick me in the nuts." you'd rationalise. She'd smile sweetly at you, and you'd feel momentarily relieved, but then she'd just kick you in the nuts again, and keep kicking you, over and over again, until you either give up and leave her alone or succumb to the Stockholm syndrome and fall in love with her.

Was any better book on programming than SICP ever written/invented/discovered?
SICP is meme-tier nonsensical bullshit
SICP and K&R are babby's first CS books. One for theory (because who'd use Scheme for anything) and the other for practice. Saging the topmost thread because the 5-0 can kiss my bottom!

>>758
SICP is actually one of the most kind-hearted and cheerful books out there.
It really sucks wanting to bang every remotely attractive girl you meet. It slowly eats away at your sense of self-worth as you realize that almost none of them want to bang you.
>>756
SICP is too hard for freshmen and doesn't offer that much for experienced programmers, you're better off just outright learning a LISP yourself. It was a very complete book, though.
But to be honest, I never really did need a "programming" book. Really, the two books I HAD to buy for my major because they were so useful was Cormen's Intro to Algorithms and the Silberschatz dino book cause I like dinos with PDAs. The rest I photocopied or downloaded.
>>764
Yes, SICP dives into abstraction even before Chapter 1. I think it was one of the courses where students sat spending much of their effort on making concentrated, understanding faces, but then, years later their brains finally processed the course and they thought, "What a genius lecturer we had!"
Speaking from my personal experience related to "computer science", unrelated to SICP.
Also, who takes that niche between novice programmer and experienced one? How experienced? And how impatient? I had a friend for whom hacking in C and Asm was child's play, yet he greatly recommended reading this book.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I want to turn it down, so that I can understand what's going on. But how do I know that I'd like what I see since I've pretty much comprehended nothing since the beginning due to it being at such loud volumes.
Back in elementary school, I used to watch Prince of Tennis on Toonami. I would have finished it if it hadn't been for this asian kid lying to me and saying that the MC dies in the end from a tennis ball to the head. At least that seems like a lie to me now. But now if I thought that were true, I think I might actually want to watch it more.

I'm so happy to see /img/ has become almost nothing but Touhou.
I browse reddit unironically. I've been doing it for the past month or so. The quality goes up and down depending on the subbreddit. Some of them are extremely 4chan-ish, in a "culturally homogeneous to the point of the userbase being virtually indistinguishable". If they appended everything with -fag, it would be literally 4chan running on another platform. Also the people at reddit like to jerk each other a bit more than 4chan, and by a bit I mean a whole fucking lot. Stroking it among each other seems to be like their favorite sport.
But really, it's surprising that the folks at 4chan and at reddit don't recognize each other a whole lot more. From a bird's eye view, they are pretty much the same young (and white) audience.

While I think that's naive, speaking from personal experience, it is still a reminder whites are still a majority in at least the Americas.
Now I'm interested in what the results of an actual demographic survey would be.
>>822
I don't think it matters at all. I don't think Reddit, or 4chan for that matter, are good places to discuss "ideas" to begin with. When it confirms their biases, the userbase takes everything at face value and do no discriminative effort at all, username and upvotes be damned.
Further, anonymity doesn't fix confirmation bias, it just removes one step from dismissing ideas contrary to your beliefs: if everyone is anonymous, in your mind, everyone is potentially a shill. No need to go check their posting history to pin the adjective on someone.

>>846
Indeed there's a subculture around beards. Why is it so surprising? If you decide to leave your beard for a long time, it pretty much becomes a part of your personality. I've seen people become nigh unrecognizable when they shave off their facial hair, beards are that big of a deal.
A person complemented my hat. Today is a good day.
>>850
Because when I think of a person with a beard significant enough to warrant any kind of discussion about it, I certainly don't think of somebody who is eager to talk about it with others. I think of somebody who just doesn't want to deal with shaving every day and doesn't really care about other people's opinion of their beard. Perhaps it's a California thing.
I used to have a pretty big beard; I eventually cut it off after I got tired of people identifying me as 'the beard guy' instead of talking to me like a person and complimenting something I did literally nothing to achieve instead of acknowledging my legitimate skills and hard work. Yeah, when I was learning english, I got to the point wheaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Apparently, Uber is simply not as useful when you're fucking wasted and want to go home because the shitty app doesn't seem to quite nail where the fuck you are; I had a driver fucking outright reject me because I couldn't find him in the middle of my ethilic stupor (which is now since lowered to a bearable intoxication, enough to coherently post)
Either make sure you have a designated driver or a friend sober enough to locate the Uber cab on a phone screen.

Who the fuck wants some random drunk-ass moron in their car anyway?
Yeah I was drunk you bitch, that's what happens when you call me out of the blue at 17:30 on a Saturday evening to help you move.
Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck
Hey guys. What's up?
This slight headache sucks
What are good podcasts?
Naming your daughter Chastity is just daring her to become a trashy slut.
The fuck kind of name is Chastity anyway?
>>949
The same kind of name as Prudence, Grace, or Faith. They used to be a lot more common than they are today.
I want a daughter just so I can name her something like Persephone or Ambrosine.
Didn't do my work again whoops.
I want to name my daughter Viola, but I don't want her to play the viola.
I have not pooped in 4 months and nothing my doctor is trying works. I'm gonna cry.
My girlfriend left her petroleum jelly in my apartment
What the fuck is wrong with my country's government?
I'm such an idiot. I saw this thin, red, shiny piece of metal, and I couldn't stop playing with it. I kept folding it up, bending it, and pressing it against my thumb. Then I decided that maybe I should stick it in my eye. Now, I can't see out of my eye and it keeps scratching against my eye every time I move it. Am I'm going to have to go to the doctor and explain this to them.
a cheap pun about cordial cherries
That's indecent.
Well, after trying reddit for a couple of months, I find myself already tired of that place. Time to try tumblr!
I have too many biscuits.

Says the guy who hasn't tried either. What's better someone who assumes something is shit, or someone who tries it and realizes it's shit?
Until recently, I'd forgotten that I grew up in a neighborhood with gang violence. I wonder if I could have gotten some scholarships with that background.
>>967
Have you actually tried consuming fecal matter? If not, does the argument you just made convince you that you should?
>>970
Damn. Well I guess I should be happy. I didn't miss out on any scholarships after all.
browsing dqn at school is comfy
What's better someone who assumes something is shit, or someone who tries it and realizes it's shit?if taken to its logical conclusion, would be an argument for doing things that are obviously idiotic. Therefore, that argument is a bad argument. In fact, I would claim it is very useful to be able to identify, from a far distance, things that you won't enjoy. This will prevent you from wasting more time in the future.
Is it a current right now thought if it's a reply
> if taken to its logical conclusion
It takes some real density to take rhetorical devices to any sort of logical conclusion, just saying pal.
Let's get serious here though, I got tired of reddit because it's mostly a place to splurt out brief witticisms. Mildly long, well-thought out posts are barely even read on that place, let alone replied to (yet a post of mine that is literally 10 words long sits at like a hundred upboats) so I'm wondering if what's essentially a blogging platfrom is more receptive to long entries.
Also take some cool ideas from there since I want to make my own blog from scratch at some point.
And I just want to hang out with different people that are not you guys, don't get me wrong, most of you are cool and stuff, but there's like 50 different people here, tops.
>>978
Yes.
>>981 On Tumblr you choose whose content you see* so if people don't want to read your long thoughts they don't have to follow you. Often I see people criticise it for being full of "dumb feminists" or "special snowflakes" or "SJWs" or whatever, but it's the user's choice to receive content from anyone like that...
*Since it was bought by Yahoo there are much more "recommended blogs" and sponsored posts and shitty adverts which kinda defeats the point I think... I hate David Beckham! I don't care if you're playing soccer around the world for charity! I don't want to see your face! And why would I be interested in following instagram camwhores?
I'm sleeping with a girl I don't even like that much just because I was so excited that somebody came onto ME for once
All this talk about Tumblr and Reddit made me thought I was on 4chan for a few seconds.
who cares

Are we really discussing this seriously?. Such an egregious false equivalence should be visible by just about anyone. For what it's worth, I don't think many people would consider calling stuff poopy to be good argumentation. Maybe if you are 5 and on your anal stage. I'm not replying to any of this shit anymore.
The very sweetest.
>>988
You still misunderstand my posts, or perhaps you don't know which poster I am. I wrote only about literal shit, and then only because you had used it figuratively above. If you want to discuss something seriously (as you claim), you might as well do so.
>>993
There's like 3 different people responding to you. I don't think you know what's going on. I'm not >>988 and I'm not the guy who said he browsed reddit or tumblr, but let me clear this up for you. Yes, you don't have to try everything to make sure it is not shit. No, you can't say something is shit until you try it. This is not the same as saying "you can't say something is unhealthy or dangerous until you try it" because that is objective and can be known without experiencing it. Saying something is shit is a subjective thing that you can only know through experience. If the guy wants to find out for himself why tumblr and reddit are shit, props to him.
Sometimes its hard to let go of things.
Sometimes you got to let it all out and be savage.
But sometimes, by chance, you slip past everything, and when you look back, there was nothing there.
>>994
Nah, it's pretty clear who the one-offs are, who are rightfully irritated by the conversation. It's just that the one guy completely misunderstands what he's even being replied to about.
Sunday bacon for the meme generation. End thread.
