>The MGTOW philosophy would be interesting if not for the misogyny. It's possible to respect and value women but still want nothing to do with them.

I remember encountering it for the first time and thinking at first "yeah, okay, I get where you're coming from", but then the more I read the uglier it got. I think maybe the philosophy originally started off pretty reasonable but got hijacked and distorted once it hit the Echo Chambers.

Meme sports that should maybe have a place anyway because they're entertaining:

bobsled

Meme sports with no redeeming qualities that need to fuck off and quit taking airtime away from hockey:
curling
everything else

Maybe instead of arguing over whether there are too many guns or not enough guns we should examine what exactly it is about our society that keeps producing these shattered, desperate people who feel their only recourse is to acquire a weapon and kill as many people as they can. People don't shoot up schools just because they have access to a gun, there is always something pushes them over that edge. But no, that would mean that we might actually have to do some introspection and confront the darkest parts of our own psyches, political soapboxing is much easier.

38 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8945 05:13

>>37
Why can't we do both? I agree that we should try to fix the problem at the source. But even if we manage to identify and agree upon the societal problems that keep pushing people over the edge, it won't be possible to transform society overnight. Stronger restrictions on guns could be implemented relatively quickly in comparison. It would be like taking aspirin to ease the symptoms of influenza. Sure, it won't cure the underlying problem, but it's better than doing nothing. It worked for Australia, at least.

40 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8945 07:10

>>38 Removing the gun show loophole and actually enforcing the laws we already have is plenty. There are already laws against owning guns as a felon or a person who's been declared insane by a court, but the fact that resale and private sales of guns are completely unregulated and untracked means acquiring a "gray market" gun is ridiculously easy for people who otherwise would be barred from purchasing one.

But regardless of my own opinion on the most superficial of the involved issues; guns vs noguns, the whole media circus around the police officers involved, the alleged corruption in the local law enforcement, it's just a circus act to keep all the moron fucking plebs from asking real questions. What they absolutely don't want is for someone to look at the whole picture, realize that the dehumanizing nature of modern capitalist society in general and modern public schooling in specific are what causes people to get stuck on the very bottom rung of the pyramid of needs for so long that they no longer even feel human, but as some kind of cattle, and get into the mindset that the only thing left to them is to get a gun and lash out at the society that created them in whatever way they can. The elites, the 1%, the jews, the bourgeoisie, whatever you want to call them, are so afraid of the day that the finger come back to point at them that they point their own fingers in every direction possible and try to be the one to yell the loudest, hoping that some of it will stick long enough for the plebs to get bored and go back to mindlessly consuming.

Can you explain what this "gun show loophole" is?

46 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8945 17:32

>>37
This is an idiotic opinion. Of course there's a solution to mass feelings of disenfranchisement and alienation, it's dismantling capitalism. Not going to happen. Everybody already did this work for you.

Until then, instead of making these grandiose platitudes and appeals to feelings, you should try at the very least to imitate what other countries where mass shootings don't happen on a monthly basis.

47 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8945 17:45

>>46
Can't "dismantle capitalism." Capitalism is human nature.

48 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8945 18:32

>>45 I thought it's already explained pretty well in the post. From the government's perspective, if I buy a gun legally in my own name, then sell it to someone for cash-in-hand, that gun has basically evaporated into the ether because there's no oversight or regulation on second-hand sales. They also don't have to abide by waiting periods, licensing restrictions, etc that would often apply(depending on your state) if you bought a gun at an actual retail seller.

>>46 Appealing to emotions is the exact opposite of what I'm doing. The idiot retards engaged in this psyops "debate" screeching at each other to think of the children or remember the second amendment are doing plenty of that for me. Also the "18 school shootings since Jan 1" statistic that the media is dumping everywhere is disingenuous as fuck because it counts literally every incident where a firearm was discharged within a few thousand feet of a school. Some gangbanger shooting another gangbanger over a drug deal is a "school shooting" because it happened a few blocks away from Martin Luther King Jr. High School. I was watching the news live when the shooting happened and they quoted that statistic three different times with three different numbers.

49 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8945 18:39

>>48
So the government should ban and regulate private sales? Something that's impossible to do because anyone can meet anyone anywhere with any gun and trade it for whatever? Guns aren't registered as it so whether you buy it from a store or a guy in an Applebees parking lot makes no difference.

Many people speak here as if Stalin’s Communist regime cared for human life and/or liberty. No, it did not. Stalin and Hitler had a common cause in opposing the UK, France and the United States: both of them despised democracy, human rights, freedom of speech and true capitalism.<br /><br />The URSS did not annex eastern Poland to “protect Ukrainians, Belarussians and Lithuanians from the Polish yoke” — the same URSS killed millions of Ukrainians by hunger some years before and didn’t care a dime for them — but to expand the territories under Kremlin’s control further to the west of Europe. When URSS attacked neutral, democratic Finland its intention was to annex the entire country to the Soviet Union, but due to the better-prepared, better equipped and better-adpated Finnish Army, Stalin just took Karelia in 1940 and Petsamo in 1945.

>Are you new or are you old?

Pretty old, in Internet years. I've been on and off this board for at least a decade? Active on other webboards since around 2005, but a regular Internet user since the late nineties.

>Are you silver or are you gold?

How about aluminum?

>Are you middle of the road? Are you an expert on BBCode?

You know, I miss BBCode. All the boards I once frequented that used it are now either dead or dying.

>Are you under enormous stress, ready to explode?

Two weeks ago, yes. Today, no.

>Are you here to stay or just today?

Most likely here to stay, as long as the conversation remains sufficiently fun.

>Are you serious or do you prefer to play?

It depends. I feel like I'm primarily more serious than others, but sometimes when I need to focus I just want to screw around. Not even good playing, just wasting time.

>Are you moving on with your life? Have you settled down and found a wife?

I'm finishing up a degree right now. Once that's over, my hope is that my career will resume without too much delay. I'm not in a hurry to find a spouse, and I think rushing in that department leads to unhappiness more often than not.

>How do you cope with daily strife?

By understanding that for the most part I don't really have strife. I don't want for food, water, shelter, or clothing. Physical security isn't a concern. I've cut out most of the toxic relationships in my life and have faced very little persecution. I am of reasonably sound mind. The main insecurities I have are long-term financial and medical; the former I'm actively addressing by earning the aforementioned degree, and the latter is mostly because of my severe anxiety when it comes to paperwork and lack of initiative in biting the bullet and getting it taken care of.

>Are you living in the now or in the past? As you get older, the years pass by so fast.

At times I would agree, but I've noticed that it really depends how I spend my time and even how I think about time. It's true that significant landmarks in life tend to cluster toward the beginning and space out later, but those landmarks are only one way of looking at life. Time continues to flow at the same rate no matter what your perception is. Think of a dream diary: you might have dreams every night, but you usually forget them shortly after waking up (if you remember them at all). It often isn't until you begin to record your dreams, training yourself to be more aware and remember details, that you truly come to a sense of how much there is to experience on that side of your consciousness. Soon you realize you don't just have one 20-second dream where one thing happens, you have multiple dreams every night and they're actually really deep and involved and you've been missing out this whole time! Or perhaps you weren't having big crazy dreams before and training yourself to look for them caused your unconscious mind to turn on the faucet? I guess what I'm getting at is, if you train yourself to be mindful and interested, life will be more interesting even in the absence of those landmarks. In the end it doesn't really matter whether it's because that mindset naturally causes you to act in ways that make life more interesting, or whether it really was interesting all along and you just needed to notice.

>Hopefully you have friends and you're not an outcast.

I've never been the life of the party, but I do have a few close friends I keep in touch with, along with a wider circle of friendly acquaintances. I try to be generally pleasant and cordial even to those with whom I have severe disagreements, and as a result I tend not to make enemies. I rarely find myself feeling excluded, but in many social situations I don't feel included either.

>Are you happy or are you sad?

I suppose you could say I'm happy, but content is my ideal.

>Are you a genetic dead-end or will you be a dad?

I am a genetic dead-end. This is a deliberate decision and I am unlikely to repeal it. Adoption will be my first choice if I am to raise children.

>Make new memories now, don't dwell on times you had.

Working on it. It's tough sometimes.

>I don't know you, DQN, but I hope you're doing well.

I like to think so. I'm definitely in a much better place than I was ten years ago, so that's something.

I don't understand what the point of that would be. If they're trying to block bots, it doesn't make sense to put up challenge imagery created exactly to be recognizable by their image recognition network. It's not as if they're short on data, anyway. They have petabytes and petabytes of that stuff lying around from the constant updates they do to maps.

I think it's much more probable that they're taking genuine input data and applying adversarial perturbations to it. That would block current bots and give them some insight into what a perturbation-resistant network looks like.

What have been your experiences with public speaking? For example, in a communications class.

I had to do a presentation today and I know I sounded very nervous. Now I'm agonizing over how it could have gone better. I practiced it beforehand and it was fine. But when it came time to actually present in front of the class, my heart rate skyrocketed and I had a hard time breathing, so my voice quivered.

The entire thing was 45 minutes (I was in a group) and it seemed like it would never end. It got better by the end of it (because I got more used to it), but the beginning was really bad.

Think about how professors have to do this every single day. Every lecture is public speaking.

> What have been your experiences with public speaking? For example, in a communications class.

I have been in a communications class. Informally, it seems a majority of people in the Western mold have a reticence or fear of public speaking. I am firmly in the minority: It is so much easier for me to regard an audience as impersonal for the duration of a formal-ish presentation, damn the consequences (I suppose there is a "nervousness" in my case, but to me it is more accurately "excitement"). In contrast (maybe this combination is a bit abnormal), basic interpersonal stuff really fucks me up, possibly with the exception of very close friends.

Granted, I am not dealing with hecklers at an open mic session or something, and have always been a regular target of emotional abuse in my own family. And I might be ever so slightly autistic, just sayin'.

> Think about how professors have to do this every single day. Every lecture is public speaking.

Some professors are natural instructors and have no problem with giving lecture. Others (researchers, which is a professor proper in some institutions) don't have any business being in front of a classroom, but are obligated to, and nobody in those classrooms is happy. I generalize, of course.

I miss the old internet. IRC, desktop computers, BBSes, web forums. It was all so new and experimental. No one had any idea what they were doing. Nowadays social media seems to polished but simultaneously sterile. You can’t just post for fun. Everyone’s timeline is like self-promotion/marketing for their own personal brand to make them look as good as possible for when they inevitably job hop because apparently that’s the beast way to increase your salary (staying at a company for a maximum of two years). And because everyone is expected to post with their real name and photo, you have a permanent internet record. So if you mess up, it’s eternal.

Or maybe this is all just rose-tinted glasses. Maybe it was always bad.

It's less about population or rural vs. urban (though I've always been in suburban or urban places) and more about better economic opportunities, or just exploring somewhere new if you think the place you were at last wasn't a good fit for you (culturally). And if I ever have a family, I'll make another move... to a place that has good schools.

My ideal keyboard is silent with short travel, easy action, and clear tactile feedback. Typing should be as effortless as thinking. I own a Model M and while the quality is undeniable it's basically the opposite of how I like to interact with a computer. I mostly bring it out to either show off or annoy people.

I remember hearing about some experimental new tech that dynamically shapes the screen to make buttons and keyboards more tactile. In another 20 years once the patent is expired we might see it actually being used and touchscreens would have more potential at true keyboard equivalence, maybe?

I'm not that guy, but that's really not that hard. In conversation or lecture, people usually speak slower to convey nuances, but when dictating to convey solely textual content, 120 WPM is quite easy; I just timed myself dictating and 200 WPM is a pretty conservative estimate.

Even when speaking slowly and clearly, it's not hard. I just looked up an audiobook of Moby Dick (read by a volunteer, not a professional, and pauses for breath are left in). Chapters 4 through 7 (inclusive) run about 4100 words and are read in 27 minutes. That's ~150 WPM.

People who can type 120 WPM are in the top 1-2% of typists (at least, according to 30 seconds with a search engine). Considering the length of time that most people input text to computers, someone who couldn't speak that at 120 WPM would probably have a medical condition.

That said, there's no way in hell I'd take a voice-only system over a keyboard-only system. The systems that have grown up around the assumption that a user can input homophones correctly, press multiple keys at once, use modifier keys, etc. are too useful to give up.

>>320
If you mean "a cable coming out of your head that allows you to give commands like a keyboard and/or mouse", I've wanted that for the past twenty years at least. Unfortunately, today we'd probably get "a implanted microprocessor running a proprietary OS, bootstrapping a technically open-source OS, using a byzantine collection of libraries allowing you to write javascript functions to interact with APIs from up to four(!) major corporations, and it needs an internet connection to a central server to work".

Consistently means speaking and evaluating whether you were properly understood. No dictation program exists that can handle that sort of natural speech at a pace faster than typing. A lot of what you type to work with a computer is not easily expressed in speech anyway. Programming via dictation sounds tortuous.

You know you’re truly an adult when you’re tired all the time and constantly worry about money and discuss health problems with your coworkers. You get good at pretending to laugh at people’s jokes in an attempt to sound more personable. You get better with fake smiles and strong handshakes. You feel good when you have a new sponge in the sink. Your ideal weekend is one where you catch up on sleep. You stop caring about your old hobbies. You care less about being cool or wearing nice clothes, just as long as they’re clean. You give up on your hopes and dreams and come up with boring goals like paying off debt or increasing your credit score or surviving through the week.

How do animated skeletons work in fantasy? Sure, it's magic but someone has to do the decision-making for them if they do more than just reflexively swing stuff on proximity alert. And if there is somebody thinking for them, all you have to do is scream really loud to startle them and make them lose the train of thought.

On the one hand, liberals lecture me about my white privilege. On the other hand, you have alt right people who think I'm too Mexican to be white and have the stupid "le 56% face" and "la creatura" memes. But it's not just memes -- these jokes are a reflection of what people really think. I'm too white for non-whites and too Mexican for whites. Everybody gets upset.

I'm not catholic. And one problem with people who accept mixed people (at least in super liberal SJW groups, who I encoutner) is that they like mixed race people for being less than 100% white, because ultra-leftists seem to dislike white people.

Another thing I dislike about it is when people fetishize or exoticize it. "Oh, that's cool" or whatever. No, it's not.

>>378
Neither parent is entirely white, but my mom is less white than my dad.

People who aren't mixed tend to forget that mixed race people can have kids too. Thus, the parents of mixed race people can also be mixed race as opposed to just one race or the other.

I don't browse 4chan. This shit leaks into other places too. But even when I did used to browse 4chan, I'd just browse /g/ or /prog/ and people would mostly talk about technology. There's more online race-related shit on Facebook and Twitter and Reddit (at least with who I've added/followed on social media, based on knowing people or being in certain circles).

SJWs aren't online-only. I'm in college in an extremely liberal area. If you think they only exist online, you have no idea.

That's the thing -- these are issues in real life, not just online.

People really do give lectures about white privilege. Yes, in person. They might not be screaming like the internet might want you to think, but yes, people in university (and in the city I'm from) do talk about this a lot. I've also heard white people say racist things about Mexicans -- in person, not online.

Many of the people in my family are obsessed with race. As you might imagine, they're on the SJW end. Believe it or not, but people exist outside of the internet!

I hate when people say "it's just online" or something. Maybe for YOU. Not for me.

I think white people make an effort to virtue signal around me more because of the fact that I'm mixed. As if they have something to prove around me.

I'm not doubting your experience, I'm just saying that the middle ground you are looking for definitely exists, but you'll have more trouble finding it online than in real life.

And by lectures, do you mean actual lectures? Like in a hall with an audience? I don't think anyone is forcing you to assist to a conference about intersectionality or whatever topic du jour is being hotly debated on this brave, new, racially sensitive marketplace of ideas taking place at your college. If you are being forced to assist, let me know, I'm curious.

As an aside, I really like how neutral this place feels, precisely because there are people that can't stand these debates, and I think that's ok.

Lecture can mean different things. If someone rambles on about something, you could say "don't lecture me." But yes, there are literally events you can go to on campus where someone has a powerpoint and they talk about privilege and diversity and things like that. They don't happen every single day, but they do exist. And some professors talk about race too. Again, not every single professor, and not every single day, but they do bring up the topic of race, and it's usually in an anti-white way.

It seems like you're trying to invalidate my experiences because they don't line up with your own, as if the world is some egalitarian fantasy land where no problems arise. Not everyone has the same life experiences, and problems like this really do exist.

There are a lot of complications and problems associated with being mixed race and I wish I was just one or the other. And yes, I am well aware that "Mexican" is not a race -- Mexicans are varying admixtures of native american, white, and black. Yes, I know. Then again, I have never been to Europe or Mexico.

It seems weird that people talk a lot about race these days, but mixed race issues aren't talked about as much. People talk about individual groups. There's the alt right for whites. There's Black Lives Matter for black people. Not much activism or attention for mixed race stuff, aside from recent racist memes like "el goblino" or whatever like the other person posted.

But whatever. I shouldn't have even mentioned it.

Also, fun fact: there are many Chicano people who are in the US, not because they moved, but because the border moved. What used to be Mexico is now Texas (at least part of it).

There are many different identifying terms -- Latino, Hispanic, Mexican, etc. You could make a very big Venn diagram with them. But people in my family tend to say Chicano/Chicana.

Not every mixed person speaks Spanish. Not every mixed person has an accent. Not every mixed person participates in Mexican traditions/ceremonies/holidays/etc. It was a bigger part of my youth, but I've kind of "shed" it now and I'm more globalized/generic American so some people might say I'm whitewashed or something. But what, am I supposed to be a walking stereotype/ambassador/cultural sampler platter in order to have the heritage that I have?

Good stereo systems in cars look good because they are designed with the rest of the interior in mind. So the stock one looks like it fits in. The reason why aftermarket ones look bad is that they don’t have separate styles for different models of cars, which all have different interior aesthetics. One-size-fits-all styling. Besides, people buy stereos for the features rather than the looks.

My car came with an aftermarket stereo when I bought it (I can only afford used cars) and it the aux input doesn’t work so I can’t hook it up to my phone and it’s old enough that it doesn’t support Bluetooth. So I just got a cheap portable Bluetooth speaker and a charger for my car and pair it with my phone to play music/audiobooks/podcasts.

These days, the best in-car entertainment system is your phone.

Have you ever used CarPlay or Android Auto before? They seem pretty cool but they’re only available on newer cars and stereos (which I don’t have).

Insurance complications
Cars break down over time ― you want a home that won’t last?
No free parking, cops harass people who sleep in car
Even if you pay for a parking spot somewhere, like in a parking garage, you will not be allowed to stay in it overnight
It will get super hot in summer and super cold in winter
People can break into your car and steal everything
If your car gets towed and you can’t pay the fee, you’re screwed
Hard to shower, cool, etc
Using your car for daily electricity needs will mean you either have to drive a lot or you’ll run your battery down and eventually get in a situation where your car won’t start or you have to let your electronics die
You will spend a lot more on gas for the battery, heat, AC, etc.
AC won’t last anywhere near as long because car AC is not the same as home AC
When you take your car to the mechanic, your entire home and all your possessions are there
Unlimited data gets throttled so it’s neither unlimited nor fast
No mailing address will mess a lot of things up for you
Hard to be in a relationship when you don’t have a place to stay
Lack of space
Lack of privacy
People will avoid you or think you’re nuts

There was that one guy who worked at Google and lived out of a box truck in the parking lot to save money. Google's big enough that nobody really paid any attention. I wouldn't mind an arrangement like that, except for the "everything there at the mechanic" and the "no mailing address" things.

There's something about this that really irks me. Normally I'm OK with Patreons, after all it makes sense to support artists you like so they can keep making art. But these two mother fuckers are obviously pretty well off to begin with. And they're asking people to give them money not just to make games but primarily to help finance their...yacht? Are you fucking kidding me?

Not sure why this makes me so angry. Maybe I'm just jealous I'm still making money the "normal way" while they fuck around on a yacht.

It's Motherboard/Vice; I don't know how douchey they are or aren't, but being featured there would make anyone look super douchey.

For most people who do it, boat living is a respectable minimalist lifestyle and has been possible for a long time. The Patreon aspect does make it a bit more awful-sounding, but I can't really draw a huge distinction between that and the more normal income of pulling ashore for temporary gigs; ultimately, someone thinks they are paying for a good or service, therefore they pay.

Dude just learn to live with yourself. You are your own best friend, noone else is capable of completely understanding you so trying to get along with someone else wont be worth it. I'd say you should start and analyze yourself by checking how you feel about the last couple hours several times a day and then ask yourself why you feel like that. Not lying to yourself is key here, or if you are a really good liar you can try to to manipulate your brain into believing the truths you want but I think this will break appart someday so better do it right.

Karl Marx was jewish

467 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8999 20:04

Marx was born on 5 May 1818 to Heinrich Marx (1777–1838) and Henriette Pressburg (1788–1863). He was born at Brückengasse 664 in Trier, a town then part of the Kingdom of Prussia's Province of the Lower Rhine.[18] Marx was ethnically Jewish. His maternal grandfather was a Dutch rabbi, while his paternal line had supplied Trier's rabbis since 1723, a role taken by his grandfather Meier Halevi Marx.[19] His father, as a child known as Herschel, was the first in the line to receive a secular education and he became a lawyer and lived a relatively wealthy and middle-class existence, with his family owning a number of Moselle vineyards. Prior to his son's birth, and after the abrogation of Jewish emancipation in the Rhineland,[20] Herschel converted from Judaism to join the state Evangelical Church of Prussia, taking on the German forename of Heinrich over the Yiddish Herschel.[21] Marx was a third cousin once removed of German Romantic poet Heinrich Heine, also born to a German Jewish family in the Rhineland, with whom he became a frequent correspondent in later life.

I'm as distrusting of the eternal chon as the next 20-something reverse banana but I think we need to sit down and discuss how food is pretty much the only thing Korea does better than Japan.

Japanese food: here's a $50 piece of raw fish draped over a cube of plain white rice. if that's not to your liking then you can also have a bowl of rotten beans, or this sandwich filled with noodles.

Korean food: here's a big ass piece of grilled meat with some spicy vegetables and rice. if you don't like that then here's another, different big ass piece of grilled meat. also we're the only asians that don't make chopsticks out of fucking balsa wood.

Korean BBQ and kimchi is pretty based. It’s also easier to learn Hangul as opposed to Hiragana/Katakana/etc. There’s also k-pop, plastic surgery (even if you don’t like it, you have to admit that they’re good at it), Seoul, Busan... lots of cool stuff. They are also good at dealing with crazy neighbors. And Samsung is a South Korean company. When was the last time you used a Japanese phone?

477 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9000 03:06

The only Samsung phone I've ever owned (GS3) is also the worst phone I've ever owned. Despite being XBOX HUGE it still felt flimsy like it would just crumple up like a ball of paper if I gripped it too tight. LG on the other hand does make some decent phones, even in lower budget range. So it's not that I have a thing against Korean phones, just against Samsung, who may as well be an arm of the Korean government at this point so they can dump whatever garbage on the market they want with almost no consequence or oversight. If my only choice of manufacturers for two similar products was either Samsung or Sony I'd take Sony almost every time, but luckily choices aren't usually so restricted.

I still find trips to the grocery store a bit surreal. Spices, exotic fruits, salt, tea, coffee, you can buy them all for the equivalent of maybe 10 minutes' work at a decent wage. These are things people used to kill and die over; wars were fought over these things! Barely 100 years ago, the Dole Fruit Company was overthrowing governments just so they could export pineapples and bananas a bit cheaper. Dying for bananas, can you even imagine?

People I’ve asked, they don’t care about the meaning of death.
The world is cracking, nothing we can cure, I just hope the wind can drive me somewhere to begin.
Wish you could write me a poem to souvenir our 6 date.

Sometimes growing up gives birth to a tragedy.
The things I did nothing much was meaningful.
Who ever I got near to, I know they just turn into gloom.
Wish I could turn into a merrily angel, then we would meet 10 times per day.
Wish I could turn into some elegant poetry, so you’ll be willing to read 10 times more.

A good thought, so good that you can't remember it? Hmmm...
I've had dreams like that. It's either a really good or really bad dream. After I wake up, then I think about it, and shortly thereafter I forget about it! That's why it's good to write down dreams or ideas quickly after you have them. I have a notes.txt file on my computer, and I use a note-taking app on my phone too.

Even if you don't know if you'll use the idea later, it's good to write it down. Over time, you'll accumulate a long list of ideas, some of which you'll want to discard, but others can be used for a wide variety of creative things.

Inspiration doesn't happen all at once. It can be a few 5-minute sessions in 2 or more years. And when you have all the pieces of the puzzle together, even if it's years after the first time you thought of the first part of it, you'll be glad you wrote it down.

It seems that some dokyuns are forgetting the rule of the internet: if there's content you don't like, the best thing to do is ignore it. Meta-discussion is boring and toxic. Trying to tell people what to post and what not to post is completely ineffective.

And yes, I know this post is entirely hypocritical. SUCK IT BITCHES

Everything is political. There are really only two types of people: those who realize that political issues have serious effects on people's lives and need to be addressed, and ignorant "I'm neutral" idiots who are so privileged that they don't even realize that other people's problems are different from their own.

So to say "don't be political here" is something only someone from a privileged, sheltered, out of touch background can say. You must be living under a rock.

579 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9004 20:47

No >>578, there are more than two types of people in the world. It helps no one to be reductive. Political issues affect people's lives, of course, no one is disputing that. That doesn't necessarily mean need to be addressed on an anonymous textboard, especially one about net culture and weeb shit. I don't have a problem with people having political opinions, it's the way they're articulated that rubs me the wrong way, with shallow, short-sighted assumptions and false generalisations. Saying "there's only two types of people" or "____ is something only ____ would say" or accusing people who disagree of being "leftists" or "nazis" and things just shuts down intelligent discussion.

It always seems to be American political opinions that are discussed as well, so it's even less relevant; and maybe it's just the American style of partisan politics but it just comes across like sports fans bickering about their favourite team. Personally I like DQN because we don't really talk about current-day meatspace very much, shitposts are more interesting than what you personally think about the stereotypes you have for "the left" and "the right".

This is a photo of you: https://i.imgur.com/YOcdhBm.png
Also, you're wrong. You make it sound like both sides are equally valid here. "Argument to moderation" is a logical fallacy.
This is how DQN treats politics (very naively and incorrectly):
https://i.imgur.com/xfk6DSD.jpg

It's like if someone said 2+2=0 and someone else said 2+2=4. Then fence-sitting centrists will be all like "well the truth is somewhere in between, so maybe the real answer is 2+2=2." Or your "multiple viewpoint" bullshit would be like saying that there are multiple objective truths, so maybe 2+2=5 and 2+2=7 as well as the other opinions people have. But we know that's not true. So why do people treat politics differently? You pretend that some issues are subjective even when they're not.

The fact of the matter is that some people are clearly wrong and others are clearly right. In some cases, there aren't multiple correct opinions. You are extremely naive. Sheltered egalitarian garbage. You know nothing.

Weeaboos on sites like this tend to be out of touch and I am trying to educate you. I am trying to get you to think critically about issues that you would rather ignore because you're not comfortable discussing hard-hitting subjects. But they NEED to be addressed. Inaction is part of the problem. Nazism wouldn't have come about in Germany if there were fewer fence-sitters.

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

So people on this site are homophobic in addition to being racist and sexist. Great. You could really use some proper education. I think it's sad that ignorance and hatred are rampant here, but it doesn't have to be that way. You don't have to be the same way forever. Making a mistake once doesn't mean you have to keep on repeating it forever. If only you'd be open to seeing other people's points of view, I could help you see the light. You could redeem yourself... but only if you're willing to listen. And that requires change.

You can't play pretend forever. It's not 2006, weeb shit won't solve these societal issues, and you need to be more mindful of these problems. They affect you, whether you like it or not.

>>585
Fence-sitting will get you nowhere. While you're fence-sitting, there are people out there actively lobbying against your best interests. You have to pick a side. Otherwise, it's basically self-sabotage.

If you haven't gotten the memo, people are increasingly polarized. Being a fence-sitter IS a stance. And it's not one that will make you many friends.

Time blocks at a local 24 hour fitness center:

01:00 - 06:00 : NEET hour, if you go now you'll probably be the only one there. Dangerous if you want to lift, no one there to help if there's an accident.

07:00 - 12:00 : Pensioner hour, mostly old ladies walking on the treadmill or old men clogging up the equipment taking 30 minutes in between reps. Everyone is friendly and polite, but it's easy to become impatient. I can't recommend it to amateurs.

11:00 - 15:00 : Treadmill grandmas start to clear out and head to Cracker Barrel or Bob Evans for the early bird special. Second-least busy block, good time to go.

16:00 - 19:00 : Fitness mom hour, mostly young professionals in their late 20s to early 50s stopping in on their way home from work. A lot of fit, handsome dads around, if you're into that kind of thing.

20:00 - 0:00 : "youths", highschool sports players, dudebros, assorted miscreants. People screaming, slamming weights. If they play music at your gym this is when the playlist will switch from inoffensive and easily ignored top 40s to rap or nu-metal. Avoid.

Low cost of living doesn't mean low quality of life.

There are many places that are cheaper than the US that are just as nice, if not nicer to live in. And things are less expensive, too. You make less money, but you don't need as much either.

Your woman has a gown, and her whole seven weeks wages are gone; ours has a gown, and two days' wages left, to buy something else with. There -- NOW you understand it!"

Howdy ya'll, my name is Kenichi Smith.

I'm a 27 year old Japanese Toonaholic (Cartoon Fan for you foreigners). I draw cartoons and comics on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior American Video Games (Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War).

I train with my 1911 every day, this superior weapon can shoot straight through steel cause it kicks ass, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on Earth. I earned my gun license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak English fluently, both the New Jersey and Southern accents, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about their history and their Constitution which I follow 100%.

When I get my American Visa, I am moving to New York to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an Animator for Nickelodian, or a Game Designer!

I own several cowboy outfits which I wear around town regularly. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to North America, so I can fit in easier. I keep cool in front of my elders and seniors, and speak English as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

No, not at all, really. They weren't treated particularly nicely before the revolution: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_of_Settlement - it was abolished after the revolution, but Stalin decided to make https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Autonomous_Oblast instead (he moved peoples around a lot, some pin republican nationalism and Chechen war on him as a result of this) as a buffer zone with China and because Far East was underdeveloped. Jews in USSR had more limited access to classified information, etc. Perhaps, to some university degrees even. When emigration to Israel was on the rise, USSR tried to limit it (keep them in, not murder them, imagine) and demanded costs of education to be reimbursed for that sacred visa, but that was soon abolished under international pressure.

I didn't have cancer, I basically got tricked into paying for unnecessary medical stuff by a stupid doctor who was worried about liability for some tiny chance thing that wasn't likely.

>>703
I had all my wisdom teeth removed. Then I got put on strong painkillers. I did and said some weird shit when that happened. Not just the day after, but when I was in recovery and still taking the pain meds. Man, they felt good. No wonder there's an opiod epidemic. That shit makes you really fucking high. I'm glad I'm off that now, because it was super addictive. Good thing I only had a small supply of prescription pills and no access to other sources.

705 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9009 05:10

>>704
I had mine out years ago and they gave me oxy for the pain iirc. I missed a few of the scheduled doses, didn't notice any difference at all, and stopped taking it. I still don't actually know what painkillers are supposed to "feel" like, and I'm frankly a bit scared to find out. The nitrous oxide, on the other hand, was absolutely fantastic and I'd totally do that again.

Painkillers feel good. In fact, they feel TOO good. They feel so good that nothing else compares. They feel so good that being normal feels awful by comparison. So you keep on chasing the next high. You pawn off goods to buy more so you can get your next fix.You get horrible withdrawals if you go too long without getting high again. Your life falls apart and you don’t even care because all you can think about is getting high again. Your body builds up a tolerance so you need more and more to feel as good as when you first starting using. You will try desperately to recreate that experience of getting high for the first time, but it just doesn’t happen. It never feels as good as the last time. You could go on a t-break, but that’s too hard for you. You call in sick day after day.

Your entire personality and existence are consumed by this addiction and you are a mere shell of the person you once were. Hobbies and interests are gone. Your career is in the toilet. You are aware of these issues and how it’s affecting you and your loved ones and you don’t even care because you NEED to get high again. Bills pile up. You run out of money so you start selling your body for drugs. You forego buying food to save up for more opioids. You go from prescription pills to heroin. You steal from friends and family. You fuck up your veins and use the same needles over and over again. You become homeless but you still think getting high again is your top priority in life. But eventually, your tolerance is so high that you have to take dangerous amounts to feel good again. To feel like the first time you got high. You know, that harmless time you said you’d try it “just this once.” With such a high tolerance, you overdose. No one is sad for you and you don’t get a proper funeral. If anything, your family is relieved that you are no longer a burden and no longer suffering as a homeless junkie. You brought great shame and tragedy to your family so they avoid telling people they even had you at all.

No one plans on becoming an addict. Opioids aren’t like weed or alcohol. They will destroy your life.

I have a relative who died of a fentanyl overdose and someone else who used to be a heroin addict. Opioids are terrible. And you might be thinking drugs onl affect poor people and red necks, right? Wrong. In both cases I described, they were white and from liberal upper middle class families. Drugs devastate all kinds of communities.

You wanna smoke cigarettes? Fine. Wanna smoke weed? Sure, who cares. Wanna drink? Well, that can be bad, but a lot of people do it anyway. But never try hard drugs. Not even once. That’s all it takes to open Pandora's box. That’s all it takes to catalyze your demise.

This site is usually for humor or made up stories, but this is very serious.

It's easy to blame something for all your troubles, but that doesn't mean it's accurate. The Nazis blamed the Jews for everything, but life is a little more complicated than that. But we don't want to think about complicated answers.

Humans just want to blame a single thing and say "if only this thing were gone, everything would be perfect!" but that's not true at all.

You got it all wrong. There are plenty of fit or thin people who love food. They just happen to love food that is filling and low calorie.

For example, people in Asia love food, but they eat healthier food than westerners, which is why so few Asian people are fat.

Western diets have way too much fat, sugar, and salt. You should explore flavors that are more subtle -- not just extreme in those three ways. Try new veggies, new sauces, and new ways of cooking meat.

Today I had Indian food and it was very filling and tasty despite not being very big.

A burger from a fast food place might be a billion calories, but it doesn't seem very filling because the sugar and fat and salt makes you want to eat more of it.

Horrorcore is a darker subgenre of rap. Rap and horrorcore are becoming increasingly morbid (and increasingly popular). People rap about prescription drugs a lot more now, as opposed to the past when rappers would only rap about illegal drugs. Other themes include nihilism, suicide, violence, materialism, and mental illness. What does this say about America? I think America is in decline, culturally and economically. A few people are getting rich, but many people's lives are getting worse. Numbers like GDP and GNP can be misleading. This country is going down the shitter.

I would say yes. Rap used to be specifically associated with African Americans but now there are lots of rappers from other races too (Ramirez, Suicideboys, Goji, Rich Chigga, Fat Nick, Pouya, Lil Xan, Ghostemane, 6ix9ine, Bones, etc). There are still plenty of black rappers too, though a lot of rap and hip hop is more experimental now, like Death Grips or jpegmafia.

Sure, there was shit like Cypress Hill or Eminem back in the day, but they were outliers. More common now though.

814 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9012 17:50

The first category comprises citizens with a pure nationalist outlook. This mind-set strongly rejects the idea of non-Japanese entering and establishing themselves within the archipelago. Those with this sentiment believe that foreign workers threaten Japan’s carefully cultivated customs and culture. Their mantra is “More foreigners means Japan will no longer be Japan.”

815 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9012 17:53

It's worth noting that of the 1,278,670 foreign workers in Japan, more than 80 percent work in unskilled and low-skilled positions. The number of foreign workers who work within what Japan categorizes as its 18 "specialized or technical fields", which include academics, artists and personnel in health care and nursing, is a much smaller 240,000. Furthermore, only a tiny fraction of these workers are what one would consider highly-skilled or highly-educated professionals. Only 5,494 foreign workers in total have come to Japan under a points scheme aimed at scientists and business executives since the program to attract them was started by the Japanese government in 2015.

816 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9012 17:53

Keidanren and corporate Japan are not interested in opening up Japan to the rest of the world, since they remain just as insular, close-minded, inward looking and xenophobic as ever. The only thing they are really interested in is access to low-cost temporary foreign workers from developing countries to fill unskilled and low-skilled positions. These are positions they cannot fill with Japanese workers due to the worker shortage here. This worker shortage means either having to move operations outside of Japan or succumb to wage pressures for these positions at home, thereby hurting the bottom line profitability of Japanese companies. Neither of these are attractive alternatives for corporate Japan and Keidanren.

It seems like you're willfully ignoring my point. Let me guess, you're one of those "I don't see race" liberals, huh?

No, stop, let's not try to guess again. I'm trying to have a polite discussion with you, no need to fish for "you-must-be-a-___!"s... I do see race, but I was talking about music, I don't know why you started talking about African Americans. I just thought it was funny saying it was a niche interest for black people, but for 20 years the biggest star has been a white redneck. Unless you mean, in the past in the past? Like 80s? Maybe where you're from it's a niche but it's always been pretty mainstream here, I remember at the turn of the century most of the videos on the music channels were Urban Music. Even my parents liked Run-DMC and De La Soul and stuff.

When I was in scouts, it was about being a Good Samaritan (why did my phone capitalize this?), being responsible (we were trusted with knives), nature (camping/hiking), exercising, learning life skills, doing good for your local community, respecting elders and seniority, making friends, fitting in with a group (that means knowing how to deal with people, not being a “sheep” or whatever which is what special snowflakes wrongly interpret collectivism as), etc.

>>857 I'm not the soy poster or the weird guy who thinks politics is a baseball game about my team vs your team. In fact I agree with you for the most part and in a month or two all this will be forgotten about and it'll be back to business as usual at the Scouts. The controversial part is that they're doing away with Boy Scouts entirely and making it coed, while Girl Scouts will continue being girls only and doing what they've always been doing. It's great for girls to have more choices but it's also counter productive to take away male spaces in the process. Gender equality isn't supposed to be zero-sum; you don't have to take something away from the boys to give it to the girls.

Anyway it wouldn't be controversial at all if they'd just made another Scouts branch for both sexes and left Boys and Girls alone, but they had to go with the dumbest possible "solution" to a problem that didn't even exist.

867 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-9013 20:39

I think coed stuff makes sense in some situations, but there’s is nothing wrong with some clubs only for boys and some only for girls. Did you ever think that perhaps some kids prefer same gender ones as opposed to coed? Ther are plenty of coed things so I don’t think we need even more of them. Scouts was a good experience for me because it was a male bonding thing and I think would be very different if it was coed. I also don’t think Girl Scouts should be forced to accept boys.

‘Comrades, you have heard already about the strange dream that I had last
night. But I will come to the dream later. I have something else to say first. I
do not think, comrades, that I shall be with you for many months longer, and
before I die, I feel it my duty to pass on to you such wisdom as I have acquired.
I have had a long life, I have had much time for thought as I lay alone in my
stall, and I think I may say that I understand the nature of life on this earth as
well as any animal now living. It is about this that I wish to speak to you.

The animals had now reassembled in the wildest excitement, each recounting
his own exploits in the battle at the top of his voice. An impromptu celebration
of the victory was held immediately. The flag was run up and Beasts of England
was sung a number of times, then the sheep who had been killed was given a
solemn funeral, a hawthorn bush being planted on her grave. At the graveside
Snowball made a little speech, emphasising the need for all animals to be ready
to die for Animal Farm if need be.

What's going on? Where's it at?
Make some calls to make it crack, let's see
I need money, drugs, a ride
And a spot with hot ones inside
The mission:
To get all of the above in a limited amount of time
I can do this and it's done
Like that we're on our way
Be it acid on the tongue
Cocaine in your brain
Or some weed that hits your lungs
Like a runaway train
Hell yeah, from DMT to MDMA
Got all that shit and more
So till dawn we're okay, but anyway

I know a "woke" SJW who now listens to REALLY shitty rap music. This is funny, since she used to call me a wigger (but nowadays she'd probably call me a nazi -- SJWs make no sense!). She refuses to listen to anything actually decent though (like Three 6, Lil Ugly Mane, jpegmafia, Tupac, Death Grips, Playboi Carti, Ethereal, Hieroglyphics, ATCQ, MF Doom, Germone, Jedi Mind Tricks, Shabazz Palaces, Danny Brown, Joey Bada$$, ODB, etc). She just listens to the soft/pop-ish lame rap because she wants to virtue signal about liking black music without actually putting in the time and effort to find good shit.

I started saying y'all years ago when I took a Spanish class and had to verbally distinguish between second person singular and plural in English. So I don't use it the "traditional" way, where y'all is singular and all y'all is plural. For me y'all is strictly plural.

Jonah Jameson's anti-superhero slant is fairly justified, but Spider-Man is maybe one of the less destructive Marvel headliners.

And though his financial situation isn't a focus in some incarnations, Spider-Man could probably go for hire under a different alias via an agent, quit that not long after, and have enough money to never have to put up with JJ's shit if he doesn't feel like it. Granted, he probably gets some perverse joy out of fucking with the Bugle.

I'm probably not even the first person to think of this, this is just basic economics.
